Kiki,

I'm sorry to hear of these developments. I believe you said you wanted to keep your conversation with Dr. Y private. I was wondering if you're willing to tell if he offered any possible explanations for this or if your opinion of him/this procedure has changed. I only ask because the more info the better when considering a doctor. I don't wish to discuss individual cases with him. Thanks and good luck with the next procedure. Actually, I believe I only need punch floats, and perhaps something to smooth them over. You have discussed getting floats with someone and following up with something other than abrasion, peels I think?

I should add, I don't believe I, or anyone on this board, should tell another person what they should or should not do/undergo. It's a very personal choice and should be respected. Just because something works for me (or does not), it does not give me the right to say "that's awful, don't do it" or "it's great, do it." I've seen some people try to play that role here and it's very unfair, and frankly, annoying.

but I am disappointed that he was not more empathetic or interested in helping me. It actually makes me pretty sad.

WOW! I would think he would do whatever it takes to help you in your situation.‚  I mean, come on, you just spent $4,500 on the procedure alone.‚  I am really sorry Kiki that this has happened to you.‚  sad.gif

I am so sorry this happened to you, Kiki. I remember when you and I were researching dermabrasion way back when. sad.gif

How can you possibly feel the same way about him after he hasn't offered to remedy the situation? I would be livid. I guess you're a much bigger person than I.

After many dermabrasions, I can say the operation can be very dissapointing and depressing. First few weeks or days it seems all scars have been smoothened out, but after over couple of months after the operation all same scars come always back but are just little bit more shallow than before the operation. When the redness after the dermabrasion is gone, there still is oedema, body fluids, filling the holes underneath like a temporary filler, and that can give false hope which later will shatter.

That experience can be very dissapointing and feel like the whole operation was for nothing. One dermabrasion won't do anything visible to deep scars. neutral.gif Have to remember the operation goes only ~350 - 500 ‚µm deep and usually acne scars which are bothering are deeper than that. So the successive operations kind of just pumps the deep scars closer to surface.

MISSSHADY

I used to get asked a lot about this last year. It went ok. I was very red and itchy and broken out in the area for months and months. I took antib's to treat recurring acne and somehow the antibs seemed to even out the area. The color has returned to normal and everything is fine. The scarring improved around 30% The texture is what feels the best.

Kiki, I am so pissed and sad that dr y didn't offer to help you further. Why can't he do the punches for free on the icepick scars for you? Did he offer this at least (even though I know you are uncomfortable with seeking further treatment from him)?

Well Emmanuel, I feel somewhat like the quote in your signature. I want improvement, but I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of further treatment with Dr. Yarborough. So, I guess I'm of the "burn the bridge" mentality right now.

I do plan to speak with Dr.Y again to allow another opportunity for the situation to be resolved. I'm staying positive but cautious.

One thing I know for certain...I truly hope what happened to me was a complete fluke and that everyone else has excellent results.

You just had your forehead done, right?

I think when we meet a Doctor who is freindly, not so robotically clinical, we are so surprised we tend to speak of him in tones of reverence we usually reserve for the Dali Lama or someone. Especially a doctor who is treating us for acne scars. A problem there seems to be no real solid solution for. And a problem that has broken our spirits and hearts.

I have no doubt Yarborough is a talented doctor, but all this slavish devotion was getting a bit much, wasn't it? So I guess he isn't as freindly and professional as we have been led to believe. That he didn't offer Kiki a complete refund, or any other type of satisfaction, completely wipes out in my mind the idea I had of seeing him in the near future.

Other comments here also, that dermabrasion actually does little for moderate or more sever scarring is a wake-up call. If anyone can refute this let us know.

James

PS: The first person who refutes this gets a free trial of 302 drops. If the 302 doesn't eradicate those stubborn scars you can use the remainder as a dressing for salad, it being made from avacado and all.

Hi Kiki,

I'm so sorry to hear about your dermabrasion results. Thank you so much for posting to let us all know how you are getting on though - I was getting worried about you sad.gif It's also good to hear from somebody who is being so objective and informative about their results, despite them being so disappointing.

My thoughts are with you, anyway.

Much respect,

Paul

I want to thank all the people who have been so detailed in there results. I'm with Meet Pete and Healtysceptic on this one, this site has the strangest tendency to worship certain figures up to a cult status like Jesul lol. It was the same with Maya, the same with Needling, and now the Dermabrasion.

I have cancelled my Dermabrasion because I realized that I was also jumping into yet another forum frenzy.

Also it has to do with results, this 10-15 % improvement stuff seems worthless really, how can anything be 10 percent improved. What i think that really means is you caught yourself at some better lighting and oh look its a little smoother, bam you justify your 5,000 dollar procedure in your mind and then report that extra 'collagan' boost you got.

Now I know some people have had excellent results so don't jump down my throat, I just think we all need to be waay more cautious with all these procedures before jumping into them. Just my 2 cents.

Usually in severe acne scar face there is scars with many depths. 10% improvement means the most shallow ones got evened out totally and the deeper ones are now 10% less deep. But it obviously don't work that way 10 times 10% would be 100%. Deep scars which go to subcutis maybe cannot be helped by dermabrasion much at all, but should be punch excised/grafted/elevated first.

Meet Pete, I researched that procedure a few years back and came to the conclusion that it is not practiced anymore. The risk for further scarring was too severe and nobody would do it. If you can find a skilled doc then go for it, but I doubt you will. I even asked dr y about it in the past and he said wire brush dermabrasion is a better and safer option that will produce comparable results.

Healthysceptic, LOL on your remark about using it as a salad dressing. I don't think it would taste too good though. I got some in my mouth the other day and it was nasty. It really is a good product. I am liking the improvement in my skin tone and blotchiness.

I had a definite improvemnt in my spot dermabraded area on my forehead. Dermabrasion by dr y is not a bad option for everyone. I just don't think I would ever try my full face because it took me soooo long to heal in that one little area. I'm talking like 8 months for total redness reduction!!! I also had underground cysts with my acne which may have formed little "caves" underneath my skin that could be unroofed with dermabrasion. I never seriously considered that aspect until lately.

Demaplaning I think was used for the MOST severely scarred where the risk of further scarring wouldn't even matter. I cannot say I have ever seen anyone post pics on this board who looked like they needed this. Plus I know the downtime is much longer than dermabrasion.

dolmal,

Thanks for the much needed update. At 21 days I can use a lot of reassurance that the redness will fade away;.

portlandboy,

if you are reading this could you give us an update please?

Regards,

Sword

Kiki, sorry to hear about your situation.

Just want to share my experience with the board. I had dermabrasion 3.5 months ago my face is still little bit red. I am confident I will return to normal pigmentation eventually and it is a matter of time.

A week ago, I was on a long distance flight to Seattle. Since I stayed overnight at the flight and did not put on additional sunblock, I got sunburn in next day! It took a week to recover.
