Hey Drew, She actually didn't say lobster pigment, that's just the best way to describe it lol I've been getting less stares though today as compared to yesterday. What's your major, and what U. or College? I'm doing business at USC, after a longgg vacation following high school. Even though I should be more mature about it, I too disregarded the first week of the semester.

Whatta prick! If I were in other peoples shoes and saw someone with a extremely red face no way in hell would I ask them whats up with the lobster pigmentation and why are the lines detailed! Geez, some people just dont have normal human courtesy!

How did you respond? I still use the sunburn excuse and I know people are thinking why the fudge does it stop at your jawline. Haha, Im skipping class this week so hopefully in another 5 days I'll be good to go with a little green concealer smile.gif

Just a quick point on the break outs and whiteheads. Like all of you I got it bad --- probably had about 20 at one time. However now six months afterwards I am the clearest in terms of zits and one even tone that I have been in 10 years. My boss actually felt my cheek today!

Anyway my point is I think that the derm helps a great deal in terms of acne as well but after three - five months.

I found that the best thing to get rid of the whiteheads was picking them with a pin but not squeezing after a hot shower and Papa soap was remarkable for them

I booked my dermabrasion with Dr. Y. for April 11th. Is anyone else going to be there during that time?

I have so many pre-dermabrasion questions and going over 55 pages to just too time consuming especially with a slow computer. Perhaps, I will start a pre-dermabrasion topic. Once I get all my questions together, I probably will.

I am also dreading the plane flight home. Perhaps, I will schedule my flight late at night so everyone will be sleeping.

wantperfectskin I wish you the best of luck with dermabrasion. I scheduled dermabrasion on March the 15th with Dr. Y. I am going to fly home on the the 18th. I am sure I will be a sight on the plane, but my sister will be with me. I am hoping for some improvement with what Dr. Y described as hills and valleys.

For those of you who already had dermabrasion.

How many days/nights did you stay in New Orleans for post-op care?

I have planned my dermabrasion on Monday morning and was thinking about flying home Thursday night. Is this OK? I would have my follow up appts on Tues., Wed., and Thursday.

Someone please respond as I want to book my flight/hotel ASAP.

Also, did any of you rent a car or did you just take a taxi back and forth from Dr. Y's office?

Thanks.......

Yes, wantperfectskin, that's enough time--it's the minimum amount of time, but enough nonetheless. I had my derm on a Monday morning and flew out Thursday evening. You'll definitely still be wearing the mask and be gooey, but for me, I just wanted to be home as quickly as possible and so I bit the bullet. Hope this helps.

Wantperfectskin,

I flew in on Monday night, had Tuesday morning dermabrasion with follow ups on Wednesday and Thursday. I left New Orleans on Saturday morning. You will have to wear a mask traveling, and you'll get plenty of stares from frightened people. I'd recommend borrowing a Burka, or at least wear a scarf to reduce comments from perfect strangers.

I did rent a car, but used a taxi on the day of the procedure. On follow up visits, Cassandra cleaned my face and changed dressings...afterwards I got in my rental car and toured around with bandages and all. I actually had a woman stop in front of me, pull a video-camera out of her bag, and begin taping me (ha!) She must have thought she was going to have a paparazzi moment, but I'm no celebrity. Anyway I don't have a lot of shame. I felt better about getting out and about than being locked up in a hotel room. It's my understanding that cab rides from a couple mile radius of the hospital is $7-$9 each way, or you can take public transit for less (trolley). The hospital has discount agreements with about 6 local hotels ranging in price from $49-$99 per night; Call the hospital for info on these hotels. Wishing you the best of luck!

Hi Wantperfectskin,

I had my dermabrasion on Monday afternoon and flew home the following Sunday; that worked out well for me as it gave me time to recover somewhat before I had to get back on the plane. I didn't have to wear the mask home; I really didn't want to and Cassandra said it was o.k. if I didn't so I just gooed my face up with vaseline. I got a few stares because my face was beet red (almost burgundy!) but my husband said it looked like I had a really, really bad sunburn. Also, staying a few days past my last appointment gave me time to explore the city a bit; I even ventured out to Bourbon St. Friday night with my vaselined face and a ball cap pulled down low so the red face wasn't so obvious.

I found it easier to take cabs back and forth; I stayed on Canal St. and IF you could find parking, it was minimum $20/day anyway.

Good luck with your procedure; I'm almost 3 weeks post-dermabrasion and I have healed up very nicely---so far, so good!

where did everyone stay?

Please list where you stayed, how much did it cost and how close was it to Dr.Y.

Wantperfectskin i plan to be around that time in NO for my dermabrasion if i can't book it earlier so maybe we'll meet, i have olive skin too.

Also i am planning on staying 10 days on NO starting the day of the dermabrasion, i am staying at an extended stay hotel, you book 7 days or more and it's pretty cheap.

it's $37 a night but it's like 14 minutes away from Dr.Y on a car.

I'll get the info and send it to you.

For those of you who just had dermabrasion, I wanted to make sure you knew you cannot use accutane until six months post-op; you can develop scarring! shock.gif

I did read it somewhere. I will try to dig it up for you, but it may take a bit, because I forget where i read it. confused.gif

Edit: Here ya go. I read it someplace else too, but I have no idea where.

Atypical facial scarring after isotretinoin therapy in a patient with previous dermabrasion.

Katz BE, Mac Farlane DF.

Department of Dermatology, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, New York, NY.

The increased use of isotretinoin therapy for severe cystic acne has posed new problems for dermatologic surgeons. There have been recent reports in the literature of unexpected "atypical" scarring after dermabrasion in patients who have previously taken isotretinoin. This scarring was considered atypical because it occurred outside the typical "danger zones" (e.g., mandible and malar eminences) where scarring most often occurs after dermabrasion. This is the first reported case of atypical scarring in a patient who began isotretinoin therapy 2 months after dermabrasion.

Question: Does anyone think that you can punch float a scar that has already been punch floated?

What if the punched scar is still an indention but shallower, could you get it punched again? This is my case for about 3-4 scars. All much shallower but when I decide to do another derm on the cheeks I think the best result comes from the punches, therefore I think you should get as many as you can before the procedure.
