Yeah i'm going to give the secratery a call sometime this week and see if it is possible for Dr Y just to post all of the medication over to me in the U.K, i thought all i needed was Acyclover, Medrol amd Flurazepam. am i correct? why would you also need Prednisone for the swelling?

This is far to confusing......

Portlandboy you've confused me even more now, sorry maybe i'm just being a bit dippy. Hopefully the secretary will know the EXACT meds i need, cause i have no idea.

Thanks though

Miss Shady,

Medrol is the brand name for the chemical composition methylprednisolone (which is a prednisone derivative)--it's just like advil is to ibuprofin or tylenol is to acetaminophine (sp?).

hope that clarifies.

Hi, everyone. I've been visiting this forum for over a year and it has really helped me. I'm grateful to all of you for the detailed information you share.

I am considering going to Dr. Y for dermabrasion based upon what I've read here, although I wonder if it is really worth the expense and the potential for subsequent disappointment.

In July and September of 2003 , I did subcision, N-lite, and TCA cross with Dr. Rappaport in Newjersey. The ONLY thing that gave me ANY results was the TCA-cross. I spent thousands (over 5) on this useless procedure. I was told initially that two treatments should be enough as my scarring was not terribly deep. I have more scars now than I did prior to the treatment. My husband has not forgiven me for the waste of money ( I put most of the expense on a low interest credit card), as I am still paying it off. I would encourage anyone contemplating subcision and n-lite to reconsider. I wish I had known of this website before I wasted my money. Based upon my research, I believe that dermabrasion and possibly exoderm are the best choices for acne scar improvement.

I hope all of you recovering from dermabrasion get the results you wish for.

I should mention that I have also tried laser resurfacing (C02) 6 years ago, 15 micro-dermabrasion treatments, mandelic acid, pure-demming, numerous glycolic peels, and 50% lactic acid peels as well. I have even tried sanding my face myself to the point of bleeding, which as crazy as it sounds as a do-it-yourself project actually helped.

A few years ago I went to a plastic surgeon who suggested punch excision along with stitching up(with one stitch) the little holes I have around my mouth (my scars are predominantly peri-oral). He described these as if they were two different treatments- punch excision for the larger holes and stitiching up for the very small holes (enlarged pore scars)Is this not what punch excision requires? Is there not a stitching up of the wound?

Also, is Dr. Y a plastic surgeon or a derm. My impression is he's a derm.

Hey Miss Shady...indeed the medications are as Portlandboy & Leopolda stated! Be persistent with that secretary, in fact ask her to pass you through to Cassandra or Dr. Y direct!

By the way, there are discounts at several local hotels in N.O. ranging from $49.00 USD to $99.00 USD....If you call Memorial Baptist Hospital and ask for the MacFarland Center, they will give you all the discount hotel info. including prices, location, and phone numbers.....I actually booked my room through priceline.com (3.5 star/$60USD) and rented a car. I took a cab the day of the procedure, but drove everyday thereafter and did some sightseeing as well. Anyway, good luck......glad to answer any questions!

Thanks Wildcard, i'll phone up tomorrow, as it is getting rather late here, and i'm tired. I acctually dread phoning that place, as the receptionist isnt very friendly or helpfull.

Also i have booked reservations at the clarion hotel grand boutique, but thanks for your recommendations.

I received improvement from the TCA, but two treatments weren't enough. I don't have a doctor nearby that I know of who does it. My local derm says he's heard of it and would do it for me but he's already scarred me removing an enlarged sebaceous gland with a small laser. (something he isisted could not happen. afterwards said sheepishly, "this has never happened to me before." probably says that to his girlfriend, too. moron) Anyway, I considered the do-it-yourself route for the TCA, but I've been a chicken. Strong acid scares me and my zealous nature could get me in trouble -I'm a perfectionist. Also, I work as a make-up artist in retail, so I'm not supposed to do anything to make my skin look "bad" (my boss's words). Ha! What a joke.

Anyway, I would recommend TCA, but only if youv'e got an experienced person to do it , or a very steady hand and stable head.

You could do a spot treatment. Dr. Y does recommend a full face but does do spot treating. Ask drewboy as he had a partial dermabrasion. I'm pretty sure he can still see his demarcation lines. It might be a bit early for him to comment on the final outcome in regard to matching but he'd be best to answer all that. Drewboy?

BTW- Theres a patch of dark dark dark pink skin on my right cheek about an inch long and 1/4" wide that refuses to fade. Its actually part of the demarcation line. The oppositte cheek in this spot has faded 3x's more. Is this something I should be concerned about? I tryed calling Dr. Y earlier today but have still yet to hear back from them on what actions I should take concerning this spot.

Drewboy, make sure you follow up on this and avoid sun exposure for as long as you can. It could be a sign of slight hyperpigmentation and you are right on time to treat it, at the three week mark.

I have a similar darkly healed patch on the top of my nose, but this is where the last of the crust just came off and I'm only 1 week post-op. I'll have him look at it tomorrow and even ask him about you're situation without mentioning names. They're very specific about not using names in there, and in this case I really can't because I don't know yours!

Later.

he thought I'd be happy with the improvement from this derm, but said he'd leave the decision up to me whether I decide to return.AA He would not want to see me again before 1 years time.

AAARGH! i could cry, i really dont want to have to wait 1 whole bloody year! plus by that time Dr Y will probably be retired!  GOD DAMN IT!  eusa_wall.gif  eusa_wall.gif

He does however have many patients that do dermabrasions 6 months apart, so you'll be alright!
