Ok i guess its all relative, some people get excellent results others not so good, and some are exactly where they were.
I don't buy the collagan boost stuff, that was the same theory behind smoothbeam and it never happened for me, the first 3 months there was improvement- serious improvement but it all came back.
Im going to continue with my appts, and i will report to you guys the results. But i refuse to have my whole face done when the scars are only on a certain area. I still think 5,000 is too pricy, thats my main beef.
Leafsfan,AA Your results look amazing, and that's only after one dermabrasion...AA It's been a month now since you had dermabrasion, right?AA Do you attribute some of the impressive results to swelling, and expect some of the scars to return?AA Or is the swelling phase past?AA Also, are the results as good as they appear in the after pics?AA Thanks.
Thanks. I certainly see improvements from the before pics and from what I know of my acne scars. It's not a month yet; it's been almost 3 weeks (today, Saturday, is Day 20). This Monday 12/20/04 would be the beginning of my 4th week. I can't wait til this pink phase fades!!! For Asian guys like me, it doesn't look natural at all. People with lighter skin would look OK or even good with a nice pink tone. The freaking makeup is annoying. I spent an hour this morning trying to put it on. I put on too much and looked weird. So I tried correcting it with dabbing some moisturizer with the make-up pad. It smudged and became uneven! After trying to correct it for half an hour, I gave up and washed my face completely and tried again. Second time is much better! Definitely worth the effort. Had a FABULOUS time with her (aforementioned hottie). Had lunch, a show, gift exchange. Among all my friends, only she knows I had a dermabrasion. Ah hem... I hope I don't personally know any of you guys. If you do know me, pls pls I'm begging you, keep it a secret.
The improvements were most noticeable when I looked at a picture frame in the elevator to see my reflection. The right shadow can exaggerate and show the true depth of my scars. Now the deep scars are mostly gone except for 2 big ones. I don't scare myself anymore! Hehe.. actually I didn't care that much... just said, hey there are my scars.
I think the swelling phase is past or nearly past. I think the swelling only goes for 3 or 4 weeks. Will the remaining scars look worse? I don't know. Only time will tell and I will surely let you all know.
The results actually look EXACTLY like the after pics. I would try to take pics to exaggerate the remaining scarring. I DEFINITELY think one set of punch floats and another dermabrasion and I'm all good. Won't be perfect skin but will be sooo nice IMHO.
Hi all,
It's been 4 1/2 months since I had dermabrasion.. The improvement is still good.. although it has lowered some. Before(about 7 wks post-op), I estimated it to be 70-80 %.. now, I'm thinking around 40-50%.. it's still good and I'm still happy, no regrets.. I didn't get punch-floats like many of you are getting or have gotten although I would definitely get it done if I get another derma done. I think another derma would make me really happy like Leafsfan was saying cuz this has only been the only procedure with measurable, good results.. It's not feasable for me to get another one yet though cuz of the high price. I'm hopeful that my skin will improve even more in a couple of months though due to the collagen boost. I'll definitely report back if I see any more improvement. Take care all.. good luck and congrats to those who have had it done.
LeafsFan, yes my skin tone is normal again.. Around the 2 month period was when it noticably started returning back to normal.. Hang in there, the pinkness will eventually fade..
Hiya Kiki, thanks for the compliment! I am definitely happier since I had the derma. I'm sorry your improvement waned.. hopefully, we'll get the collagen boost soon though. Yes, I've got a lot of posts!! I'm trying not to spend too much time here on the boards but it's addicting! lol
Good luck Portlandboy! Also, good luck healing Drewboy! Both of you already looked great and both have incredibly great personalities (even though I only saw you guys for a few minutes!
Nope, it didn't really hurt much. Plus, he is so fast. Maybe a bit of a stinging sensation, but not bad. Also, my cleanings (three of them) did not hurt me at all.
It is too early for me to say much as far as progress. I am red and kind of extra red spotted in areas. It is day seven, so maybe I am just a slow healer. Plus, I am a bit itchy. I also see no scars at the moment, but the redd areas make me a bit worried. I may be breaking out slightly. I am keeping a positive attitude and I think things will be cool.
I am too tired to say much else now. I have taken before and will take afters, also Cassandra took my befores. I seem to have trouble posting pix. I have a kodak easyshare and it seems my pix are too big to download to my gallery site.
I loved Dr. Y, Cassandra, and New Orleans! I loved Bourbon Street! Of course I could not drink, but I bought a Mardi Gras mask and put it over my Jason mask (btw, Drewboy, your story was brilliantly funny, and very similar to my experiences!) Except for on Bourbon, I wore a cute outfit, and with the Mardi Gras mask, many guys tried to pick me up, made me feel great! But, without the Mardi Gras mask, I got looks of looks, but also some sympathy. It is amazing how bad stares can make one feel. But, it was just as amazing to feel so good that I wanted to cry with some of the sympathetic peeps.
I can't wait to look somewhat "normal" and go back to New Orleans. I think I will have a really great time! I am thinking maybe some kind of results party in a few months or something. When we can all go out and party!
I hope this made sense, as I am still sleepy from my trip back (I took the bus, big mistake--24 hours to Myrtle Beach, SC.
But for the most part, I had a great time
Portlandboy, you are probably too wrapped right now , but you will be feeling better soon!
Good luck again!
Liz Lee
To everyone in regards of the results with dermabrasion please consider a few things, as far as i know with the information gathered from Love's experience, her icepick scars that were treated with punch floats and dermabrasion where erased or almost erased, the scarring that was not so greatly improved is her rolling scarring. Am i correct?
Also in regard to Poe's experience she also did not do punch floats.
I believe the punch floats are more important than the dermabrasion even for noticeable improvement on icepick and boxcar scarring. This is what i have so i will definately not skip this step, i will wait and save until i have for both, no shortcuts on this.
Dermabrasion is also a good treatment for rolling scarring but the results are less dramatic as in icepicks and boxcars that are floated previously.
It seems to simple in paper that at times it scares me it won't work on me( i'm like that), what i am refering to is floating the scars and dermabrading them later, this should almost erase the scars or erase them.
Hi,
I have one question about dermabrasion.
I am considering Dermabrasion for my cheeks with Dr. Y.
Right now i am going for peels (Jesseners) for 2-3 months and see if that
helps my condition.
My asthetician told me i have type V skin.
Does Dr. Y perform or recommend patch test for darker skin types.
Did anyone have problems with hyperpigmentaion after dermabrasion.
Please reply.
Thanks,
Southkid.
Hi Kiki,
Thanks for responding.
I have box and rolling scars (moderate) and couple of ice pick scars (2-3).
I can live with 2-3 ice picks. but other scars are kinda embarasment.
I have been on Objagi system for 2 months. It has made my acne small
and less frequent. I get 1-2 in 2-3 weeks.
I am trying microderambrasion and jessener's alternatively in next to see any change or preferably acceptable change.
Dermabrasion seems to be right procedure. The doc (plastic surgeon)i have seen here (calif) admits that dermabrasion requires skill and suggested to
go with less agressive treatments such as micro-derm or jessners peel to
TCA peel to dermabrasion.
I will try to post some of my pics by this week.
By the way your dermabrasion pics are really nice. You look pretty.
Thanks again,
SouthKid
Hi all,
Thanks for all the well wishes... as LizLee imagined, I'm all wrapped up right now in my hotel room. Finally got access to a computer (the other laptop's hard drive died and I had my friend go out and buy another computer).
Don't anyone laugh, I passed out from the two shots. I literally fell to the floor. Dr. Y had given me the shots (thankfully, cause I'da likely knocked over Cassandra). They were running behind a bit and Dr. Y was helping out Cassandra with administering my shots. I woke up and I was on the floor in Dr. Y's arms and he was saying "Chris, wake up, wake up... Chris, wake up". It felt like I had been asleep for hours even though it was just a few seconds. I looked at him and asked him if it was over. LOL...
The shots were nothing, I didn't even feel those. The valium is a lil icky, but not nearly as bad at the Medrol you start taking the day of surgery. (swallow it quickly)
Once I sat a while and regrouped I made it into the procedure room. By the way, I asked Dr. Y if passing out was common. He told me that that had not happened for a LONG LONG time. When I thought back, I've passed out every time I've given blood, or received anestesia. (so don't fear this)
The freezing spray..... ok... I didn't like that AT ALL. Especially around my nose area. It wasn't really that painful, but it was uncomfortable. I was ready for it to be over by the time it was. It took about an hour, but oddly it didn't seem like it was that long. I did feel a lil zing every now and then from the wire brush but it was not nearly as bad as the freezing spray itself. He is fast with it, thankfully.
So I get all mummified and wheeled out to my ride. I get to the hotel and fall right asleep. I slept from 5:30PM - 8AM didn't even take my sleeping pills.
There was no pain after the procedure, just a little discomfort here and there. I think it would be as uncomfortable as if you were to wrap you face up un dermabraded (if that makes any sense).
So I went in this morning for my dressing change. That didn't really hurt at all. Leafsfan how in the world can you say that hurt worse than the freezing spray!!! I think everyone must experience pain differently. The dressing change almost felt good actually.
And how the hell did you eat french fries? lol I'm enjoying a menu of Low fat, light, Yoplait yogurt; Apple Sauce; Strawberry/Apple sauce; SMOOTHI KING (angel food)... there is a Smoothie King 2 lights further down Claiborne (going away from the city center) .... I'd totally recommend everyone going get a 40 ounce and drinking from it as you need to. It's easy to sip down and very tasty and loaded in protein and good stuff. www.smoothieking.com
I haven't felt like going out at all. Been watching lots of TV and dvd's that I brought along.
I also got to meet a young asian lady from the board who doesn't post much (I'm sorry, I forgot the screename) and another young lady from New Orleans who is a lurker... she got to see me this morning just prior to her dermabrasion (how scary).
I'm oozing like mad. This is gross ... I go in the bathroom every few hours and tilt my head forward and drain my mask area near my chin. I keep applying vaseline with a q-tip to the exposed areas. I can't wait till this is all over with but I guess the worst part is behind me.
I also got to look at myself this morning, I can clearly see the punch floated circles and my chicken pox scar is still clearly evident. I was told to expect this, so I did, and he said it will fade in time. Also the punch floats will "bridge". This has been confirmed by others who have had this done. I look like HELL... but thanks to all the people that have posted, i expected this. I'm blooooooooooody. And Cassandra told me Dr. Y was very agressive with my dermabrasion.
I guess that's all I can type for right now. I'll try to better compose myself later and type more.
Glad to hear of your success LizLee, and very sorry I didn't get to see you. I thought you were leaving on Sunday not Saturday. I called your hotel as you had just checked out
Thanks again everyone The support is really nice.
I feel my face was burning during the dressing change. Anything touching my face was extremely painful; anything from the gauzes' wipe to the tweezers part. Pain pain pain. Maybe I'm from Canada so I'm used to the cold. I ski a lot and play ice hockey regularly too. I played tonight (not sure if I was allowed to but i figured 3 weeks was enough) and we won 4-0. I still take the freezing spray over the cleaning anyday. I guess everyone does experience pain differently. Good luck with the healing and update us on your progress.
