Punch Floats:

Appropriate for scars less than 3mm in width. The punch instrument will not accomodate scars larger than 3mm in width.

Does anyone know of a NYC doctor who does the exoderm procedure?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Leopolda, Did you speak with that lady from Los Angeles who had dermabrasion 8 times? She was scarred by adult acne, which was caused by fertility drugs or something like that according to Dr. Y. She's having her 9th dermabrasion this Jan. Anyway, the reason I ask is because Dr. Y. and Cassandra stated she had severe scarring but now has flawless skin, or close to it. So I wonder whether total eradication is possible with aggressive treatment?

I get the impression it was because she wanted to improve upon the results she had already gotten, OG, not because her scarring had returned to its original state.

Oldguy: I don't think it's that they're not permanent (well, I guess with aging nothing is permanent). I think that the results you find yourself with after 6 months to one year are the permanent effects. I do think the effects are cumulative, though, and it sounds as though there seems to be no limit on the number of times you can get a dermabrasion. I guess she has the time, the money, and the willingness to keep on going. I know that I would not have the wherewithal (both financial and emotional) to go through that many.

Fainhart: As to whether or not total eradication is possible. i.e. getting my skin back to its pre-scarred state, I do not believe it is possible. Maybe if my scars were superficial, I would feel differently, but in fact they were quite substantial. I've come to this conclusion both because I've heard from so many who should know (including Dr. Y) that is is not possible, and also I've chosen to believe this as a matter of emotional strategy (or should I say "strategery") What I mean is that if I were really to believe that that were possible, I think I would be setting myself up for inevitable disappointment. I think that unreasonable expectations are a recipe for unhappiness, and so I accept the fact that I can radically improve my scars to the point that I will be content and they will no longer plague me, and this is encouragement enough for me. And, this may sound very wierd, my scars are now so symbolic to me of a deep growth and development within me, that I don't think I'd even want to erase them 100% (but maybe 99%!) I think I'd want to have a small reminder of this struggle in my life (even if it were only detectable to me). If you were to ask me tomorrow, I may say "heck no--I'd get rid of them all!" But maybe today I'm just feeling a bit more philosophical about the whole thing.

oldguy - were you the one that had positive results from tca cross treatments? If so, were they performed by a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon? I would do the punch floats in a minute if I didn't have to do the dermabrasion again. It seems that the punch floats do help with ice pick scarring.

9th dermabrasion? Does that tell anyone else that the positive results from dermabrasion must not be permanent?

Hello smile.gif

I've noticed that my scars are *almost* just as evident as before. My tone and texture have maintained improvement, but the rolling indentations do not appear significantly improved, especially compared to weeks 5 through 8. Overall, I believe my improvement could be likened to 10% for scars and 50% on pigmentation.

I made a poll regarding the permanence (or lack thereof) of dermabrasion.

I was told that it takes around 6 mos. to 1 year to see the results and I just keep hoping that it will continue to improve. However, I too am returning for another, I was told I would benefit a good deal from a second one six months after my first, so I am going back next month.

Leafsfan, do you have a picture of your scarring before you got the dermabrasion done? because judging by the pictures of you after the dermabrasion your skin doesn't even appear to have any scars, and you said that you would be classified as having severe scarring, but you look as though you would have only had minor scarring.

Hmmmm.......

I know this is a bit off topic but.... how much does each individual punch float cost from Dr Y?? i'm unsure as to whether or not i will need punch floats, i'm confused, i dont acctually know what type of scarring i have although i think it would be classed as rolling scars, its just an absoloute mess! Also how long must you wait before getting dermabrasion after you have had the floats done, is it 3 weeks?? can someone please answer me that a.s.a.p as i am seriously considering getting floats done prior to me derm, although i stay in the U.K so it would mean me staying in New Orleans for over a month, AARGH! which will cost me an absoloute fortune, but if i am going to get better results then i suppose it is worth it.

Thanks Guys!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I believe it's $60 a pop. Is it cheaper to fly back after your floats and fly to New Orleans again for your derm? I don't think you need to stay in New Orleans after your floats. Ask Dr. Y staff or others here.

I paid $50 per float last week; I flew down on a Wednesday night, had the floats done on Thursday morning, then flew back home Thursday afternoon. There is no problem flying back home the same day after your floats. And thanks so much for posting your pics, LeafsFan; your skin looks REALLY good!! eusa_dance.gif

After reading a few posts and experience from previous dermabrasion patients this is the only thing that makes sense, i mean that actually works.

The collagen remodeling may seem a little sketchy but it is physically correct, but to really experience any benefit from dermabrasion the scar must be floated and then sanded down. It makes sense this way because you are actually leveling the skin down and having the scars at the same level almost or a little higher will make it possible for them to blend in together. After dermabrasion and floats the collagen remodeling may further help mark where the actual float was done by healing the skin together in a same level.

Can anyone agree on this?
