Hi Portlandboy and everybody,

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am really sleepy right now, but I wanted to give a little update.

I am so happy to have Dr. Y do me, he is absolutely the sweetest, nicest, most exceptional man I have ever met.

I had 9 punchs. I felt no pain at all and Dr. Y, Cassandra, Sandra, and his whole staff made me feel so at ease.

I met Portlandboy who is very handsome and cute, and not scarred to me. That means he will look even better after his dermabrasion.

Thank you Love and Animegirle for so much helpful info. I would like to know if my tape will be off by Monday (I have to go to classes and give a presentation) and also if and when can I apply makeup to them. Also, how do they look? And Dr. Y said to tell you both hi! He also spoke highly about a "Simon" from Australia.

I will be going back on Dec. 13th for my dermabrasion.

Even though I am getting strange looks from friends and family on Thanksgiving, and I know I will get them tomorrow when I go shopping, I feel good. I consider myself to be so lucky to have Dr. Y do my dermabrasion.

Good luck and best wishes to everyone!

Morris, thanks for the requested info. Much appreciated!

My appointment is this Monday Nov 29th afternoon. I will meet Dr. Yarborough for the very first time. Everything is booked: rental car, hotel, flight. I will get in by 3pm on Saturday, staying one night at the Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Airport. $90 for the night. I am staying at the Clarion Grand Boutique from Sunday to Friday. My rate with taxes for the Clarion came out to $78/night.

The cost of all this without food and miscellaneous is $5780 ($4625 of which come from the procedure costs). Worth it? We'll see. I'm feeling that it will be because money comes and goes, and having an extra $5780 in my retirement account doesn't make me any happier. I'm 29. Plenty of time to make money!

LeafsFan stats: 29, male, asian, deep and many acne scars.

I'll be a tourist from Saturday to Monday noon. Is there any place you guys would recommend? Also any shady area I should avoid.

Thanks.

Hi Everyone,

I've my dermabrasion this week and everything goes well so far. Thanks everyone for posting information in this board and I find it very useful. The most discomfort part for me is the follow-up cleaning process (vs frigderm spray for most of people). I need take the tylenol to stop the pain.

Sunblock101,

Can you update your recovery process? I'm worry about hyperpigmentation, which I'll not know until one more week.

LeafsFan,

Walgreen and Wal-Mart are close to the Clarion Grand Boutique Hotel if you need any supply. Good luck to your dermabrasion.

Portlandboy23, I had punch float a month ago and I think you'll be very happy with the result (especially for those pits you/I characterized as boxcar). It's hard to say exactly when it comes off by itself. I find a couple of things helpful if you want to keep the strips intact. Eg.wash your hair without damping your face, wash your face around the strip, pat/blow the strip dry when they get wet, watch out for the sleeping posture (so that the strips do not rub against pillow). When strips coming off also depends on other factors. eg if punch float is larger, the strip stays longer. If there many punchs around smalll area, the strips mesh together and it takes even longer for them to come out. Hope you doing fine. Any swelling aroud the punch?

Liz,

Hey you... how are you doing?

Have you lost any strips yet? Today is day 5 for us and I've now lost 7 strips. I lost like 3 yesterday, which would have been day 4. I have a total of 21. I can't wait to be able to really wash my face. I'm peeling like a snake too, how about you?

Misty,

If you're around maybe you can comment on when you started to lose yours? Did you peel?

The excuse I use is allergic reaction to oysters as a cover up to my punch float. Everyone at work knew I had visited New Orleans and had oysters. So the excuse isn't too far fetch.

Portlandboy, Is 5 mm the largest punch tool Dr. Yarborough has?

As you said, the large ones are still on, I had some up to 4-5mm. No swelling experienced at all.

I believe he goes up to 8mm, but I thought my chicken pox scar was less than 8mm and he said it was too large. It's real close to 8mm for sure... it's big. The chicken pox scar is much different than my acne ice picks tho. It's shallow, better defined, almost a perfect circle, and has a smooth base. He said dermabrasion was best for that. I believe him, as when I was researching Dr. Y 5 years ago I found a girl he did dermabrasion on that had 20 chicken pox scars allover her face identical to the one I have and he nearly got rid of all of them on her.

The way I think the punch float works is this, the tool goes under the scar, cuts the fiberous bands that hold the scar down, and gathers good surrounding tissue to fill the space. The strips hold the new tissue in place and allows it to attach to surrounding surface skin. Followed by dermabrasion the entire surface is removed and new skin forms and you cannot see where the punch float was performed.

Please someone correct me if this sounds wrong. This is my understanding of what I'm doing to myself smile.gif

Where does the tool go under the scar from? As in, does it cut through the scar and lift it up or does it go around through healthy unscarred skin and under the scar tissue to life it up? I guess I'll find out soon enough but I'm impatient ... and nervous.

My understanding is that the scar is cut out from surrounding healthy tissue. When I looked in the mirror after having the punch floats done (before Cassandra applied the strips) it was little circles of blood with a piece of skin in the middle. So it appears a circular cut was made completely around the center of the scar is as best I can describe it. He definitley does some kind of clock-wise twisting of the instrument.

Day 6 punch float update.

All strips have been removed. I removed them all late last night as they were falling off anyway. I cleansed my face very gently. I also reapplied bandaids to two that I thought merited that. (still looked a little too pink/moist for my liking). Maybe it's just me, but all of my punches are in various stages of healing, even though most of the strips came off at the same time. Maybe some of the others can comment on their healing as well.

Some have completely healed - can't even tell where they were at.

Some have the halo scar - an outline on the newly filled in area.

(on these, it looks like one side is more pronounced than the other - so actually more of a defined "C" scar on top the new area)

Some have pink centers.

Some have my normal skin color centers.

Some are forming a second scab.

Some are slightly raised from the surrounding surface skin.

Some are acting as tho a filler has been injected, while others are not.

(to the touch it feels hard, kinda like a cystic zit would feel underneath)

Looking at my face, you couldn't tell that these were all done at the same time. So weird. I am happy with the outcome thus far. I'm also happy that because I've completed surgery one, I can't back out of surgery two now. That makes it easier to go into surgery two - at least for me.

My scars are (were) very spread out and with the stage the punch floats are at right now it would appear I have a case of the measles. I have little dots very evenly spaced throughout my face. Those are the punch floats and a couple zits lol. It's definitely better than last week... you can tell by the way people look at you. With the strips and bloody scabs people would quickly turn away as soon as you looked at them. I haven't been getting the "oh no, I wasn't just staring at your face" reaction.

Also do you guys think if your scars are on your cheeks you need to do a full face dermabrasion? or can you do your cheeks only?

$4,500 is a lot for me right now

I am sending my letter, i'll try and get some pics in there too but still one needs to go for a consultation first right?
