i've had five so far and i think it has helped with scars on my upper cheek, but the ones on the lower cheek still look very much pitted. could it be because they're deeper?

what type of scars do you have and how ba dwould you say they were ... if you stretch the skin surroung the scar does the scar dissapear ? if they dont they will need more treatment then the ones thath do. Dr chu recommend tca for the few 'fixed' scars that i have (non stretchable) and dermaroller for all the other ones

also .. what topicals are you using ?

i'm not too sure what kind they are, probably ice pick i think. they dont dissapear much when i stretch my skin.

you mean i'll need something else as well besides dermaroller?

my doctor only gave me moisturizer and sun screen to be used.

hey v_singh:

Most of my scarring actually disappears when I do this...except the deeper ice picks, interesting you mentioned this, where did you hear it?

Also bbb16, what needle length were the rollers and what was your post care like?

Thanks

its one of those medical ones, probably 1.5.

i'm only told to moisturize twice a day and apply suncreen when necessary.

Maybe needling for the specific scars, and look into LED therapy, I will be doing that

ah ok.

how many dermaroller sessions can you have anyway? will having 20 for example improve your skin even more compared to 7 for example?

how do you know when enough is enough? lol.

Dr Tony Chu (dermatologist at hammersmith hospital - one of the best derms for scaring) told me about the stretching scar thingy

20 treatments is most likely to give you better results then 7. but the results are not equal each time .. E.g. if 1 treatment gave you 10% improvment it does not mean that 2 treatments will double that - 20%

i think each time you get the treatment done the resutls gradually decrease - this is just my theory thoug, you might want to wait for lemarr to answer that coz i might be wrong.

if your scars do not stretch is just means you have to have more treatment on those scars - e.g. self needling the individual scars that are 'fixed' (non stretchble)

BTW i plan to have dermaroller every 2 months for 2 years

From what I am reading some rolling sessions will yield better results than others regardless if its # 2 or like # 7 etc..

on aside, I have been reading very good stuff about LEDs (specifically 660 and 880nm) and scar tissue remodeling

lamar- so you subcise your scars yourself? what kind of needles do you use? i recently bought some restylane that comes with its own syringes/needles, do you think i could subcise the scars first and then put the filler in? is there any issue with the strength of the needles.

I wish i hadn't used the word subscission now. It is not subscission as such but the method in which i move the needles under the scar is the same as subscission is performed. I do not use a blade designed to cut the fibros tissue onder the scar.

No but the skin will begin tougher in that area, then as you do it more you will notice they aren't as tough. You might get a popping noise when you first insert the needle though....

This one or the 2mm version is what you want.

Lamarr,

I was wondering if you could fill me in on how you got your staph folliculitis under control. I had a biopsy/culture done on the scalp lesions I get post-tane and it came back perifolliculitis caused by staph aureus. Did you do a course of antibiotics?? I think the goal here is to selectively inhibit the growth of the aureus bacteria while allowing the oher gram-positive bacteria to take root. Is there a specific wavelength of light therapy that works best on the staph?? Sorry to hijack this thread but your inbox was full.

Thanks again man

sorry if this seems like a stupid question but was the staph follicultis caused by accutane or dermaroller/needling ?

Hey dude,

Well i tried a few things for the folliculitus, A course of topical and oral anti biotics cleared it for a while but it came back...

With tane induced folliculitus it would appear that the body has become more sensitive to staph aures, not only is there higher levels of stpah but our bodies respond to it more sensitivly. Some people only get this type of folliculitus when they shave, but if your like me you get it even if you don't shave for months....

What you need to do is both reduce the number of staph (i use hibiscrub) and a topical anti inflammatory such as ibuprofen and/or niacinamide.

I just cleanse once with the hibiscrub for two mins and apply topical ibuprofen once per day at night.

This will clear it up no problems....

I have looked into every possibility. I am on a drug that is often used for lupus and many of my side effects are MUCH improved now. I can finally get on with my life :)

I am handy when it comes to treating tane side effects because i have had most of them and managed to get them under control (admittedly i was fortunate to have no SERIOUS internal problems) via different means, same goes for my scarring.

If you are persistant, positive and use your initiative you can get to where you want to be....

My essential oil mix is for accutane hairloss, basically aimed at addressing inflammation. So i use emu, jojoba, lavender, grapeseed.

Your plan sounds good but i have tried natural things before and unfortunately they haven't worked for me. I agree with the floral balance, the reason for this is due to the dryness of the skin post tane, it enables the staph to proliforate much easier.

There is also an inflammatory component to this aswell and this is why i use a topical anti inflammatory like the ibuprofen.

Sometimes this problem doesn't resolve and requires long term treatment. If the essential oils work then it's a good treatment but i have tried so many things i am just glad somethign works for me...

Lamar,

When you needle with the tip that you suggested do you use anything to numb the skin? I have tried before with a bigger needle and it hurts like hell.

thanks

Hey man,

I have said many times before but you must of missed it. I want to ask a mod to make a sticky of the list of things i do and in what order because i get asked the same questions every day lol.

Anyway, i use EMLA. First go over the skin with a home dermaroller (the ones with very very short needles) just to penetrate the epidermis. Then apply thick layers of the emla and apply cling film over the top of this for one hour. There will be no pain then....

I think cling film is the same as 'saram wrap' here in the states, you apply it over the EMLA and an hour later peel it off

Lamarr

I suppose this would be an appropriate place to ask...

I was just wondering what you have done for the accutane side effect that involves the poor healing of the skin?

Do you think topical ibuprofen applied to cuts, acne, etc. would help with the redness which seems to last ages? And also help with preventing scar formation?

Thanks again.

_________

I have also purchased a LED unit from the ledman now. I will use a dermaroller at home alongside the leds and see how I get on. Hopefully I can add to the success stories so far!

cheers

The LEDs help with the healing and redness, so does the topical ibuprofen. Terproline helps hydrate the skin aswell.

Mepacrine has been the biggest help for the healing of everything though. Speak to Tony because i suggested he try it on more accutane victims, he may well be willing to try it now.

They look like the right ones, if you can convert the length of them into MM's i will be able to say for sure. If they are 5mm, then they are probably the same. The ones i have say 5mm but if you measure them measure at about 4mm.

Just remember to use about 3mm of the neddle if you are going straight down, if going in at angles the full length can be used CAREFULLY.

Thanks Lamarr! I may have to try the ibuprofen gel..

I will be doing a dermaroller treatment and using the leds within the next two weeks. I will try to sort out some pics if possible, and will report results!
