what is the longest length that the roller can be? i was on this one site where this Switzerland company patented the first roller and said that 1.5mm i the longest and anything longer should not be used. i know that dr. roller sells 2.0mm ones but are those too long?

thanks

My doctor said fractional CO2 laser and derma rolling works on the same rationale

difference is that CO2 laser releases energy (heat?) while rolling does not

if this is so, can rolling be more effective than laser?

any thought?

I'm a roller 1.5 mm ... my face looked great 1 week right after rolling but all indents reappear afterward

I'm not sure if it's temporary becos of collegen remodelling or this is how it is ~~ confused~~

i think i'll keep rolling anyways since it's cheap and doesn't seem to cause me any harm so far

after reading the thread, i've decided to supplement my 1.5 mm rolling with 0.5 mm in between

i'll keep u guys posted~~ good luck to us all!!!

Hi Honey Girl,

I ordered from Dr. roller (both the 1.5 mm roller n numbing solution)

i applied some water-based essence before, during and after rolling

after my skin healed, i use retin-A & Vit C essence (alternate w/ some water-based gel)

sunscreen is everyday routine, of coz

I was only red for max 3 days so i'm not sure if i was aggressive enuff

did not use LED lights cos I'm Chinese, afraid of getting hypopigmentation or pigmentation

I had fractional CO2 laser about a month ago, I'm still struggling if i should go back for another one

Have u started on any treatment yet?

Thanks vivien!!

I havent started any of the dermarolling yet, but am about to order the stuff

I can't decide between the dermaroller or the dermastamp

Did you get any of the needles bending on the dermaroller at all?

I had no idea that the led lights could do that to dark skin as I have olive coloured skin as well.

How many rolls have u done and how much improvement have u gotten since you started?

thanks again

My pleasure to share anything I know. I've also learnt a lot from other people on this forum.

I did my first derma rolling a few years ago at a beauty clinic, performed by doctor

the result was not gd. i think the doctor didn't roll hard enuff

now i do the rolling myself (2 rolls so far, 1st w/ 0.5mm & 2nd w/ 1.5mm), my skin looked smooth the week after 1.5 mm rolling (abt 40% improvement). i think it's becos of micro-swelling.

it's my 2nd week after rolling, all my indents reappear. I'd say maybe around 10% improvement (if any)

i know there's no miracle treatment so I'll juz keep rolling

i rolled 20+ times on each area in each direction

Hey munsoned, good luck on your roll coming up, you're "the man"

thank you sd, I appreciate it. I just placed my order for the 2.0mm derma roller. Should be here this week and I'll most likely roll this weekend. It will be interesting to see if the 2.0mm roller can provide any benefit beyond the 1.5mm. Only one way to find out. 😎

Will update my log after I roll. Hope all the fellow rollers are making progress..I know it is pain stakingly slow at times. But any progress is a good thing. I have some deeper scars that I just can't seem to get moving along. But I am not going to give up. I will find a way to get them improving.

That is not exactly cheap..I would have to see the quality of the roller to determine what kind of deal I felt it was.

Mon nov 7.

Did another rolling session. I used a 2mm roller for the first time. I rolled my cheeks and entire forehead. I could feel a slight difference in penetration. Definitely could feel it going a bit deeper. I am going to purchase a yellow/red dual led in a week or two. I have never used a yellow led and I am very excited to add that into the mix. Will keep my log posted on that.

Lets see if the 2mm roller can offer any increase in progress compared to the 1.5mm..Will be able to judge in the next 2 months roughly and will keep my log updated along the way.

Keep us updated munsoned!

Vivien and above posts* are you sure? Rolling would be as effective, or nearly effective as fractional laser? (Fraxel?) The treatments cost $500+ and if rolling would work, that would be AMAZING.

Munsoned,

That's the website, and $80 is cheap - trust me, everything in Australia is severely overpriced.

i think fractional laser might produce better results than derma rolling

because it releases heat which promotes collogen remodelling

but laser (any type) always come w/ a heavy price tag

when i compare price and result, i'd opt for rolling

Yeah me too, It's just the laser would go right underneath whilst the roller is sort of superficial. Nevertheless, it's great if you're seeing results - I might get one early next year. $80 is a bargain for better skin.

Ps - It's only on scars right?

thanks for the link BG..that looks like a nice roller. But why do you have to purchase a roller in Australia?? There are plenty of sellers on ebay who would most likely ship you one no problem and you could save some cash if you are interested in purchasing a cheaper quality roller.

The shipping to Australia costs heaps, that's why I always find bargains but the shipping price means it would be cheaper to buy it here etc. and I don't want an inferior quality roller. The downsides of living on a great big ... island.

I seriously couldn't be bothered, at least I know it's good and genuine. Ebay scares me! I don't mind, it's going to last me forever. At least now I have your blessing! Thanks munsoned, I'll get it early next year and tell you how it goes!

Hi,i am very pleased that your skin and scars has been improving,on the other hand,i would sincerely hope some you guys out there could help me.

Wel i am 17,still studying and have recently seeked scar treatment(acne) from an aesthetics doc in my country.i did some research before i went and knew that i wanted to seek for derma roller treatment. After the consultation,i explained to her that i dont really envy the scars on my face one bit.She told me to do a combination of treatments which was- Derma roller(5 sessions) and Chemical peel(5 sessions).

In the sense of chemical peel, she would apply PCA(salicylic aid) on my face and TCA on the small pimples that i have.

The cost was $3000 in my country -(US$2000)-pls do note that i am still studying and worked part time to pay.

Well, she told me that the treatment type will alternate and will be done every 2 weeks.

EG: chem peel----2wks-----d.roller-----2wks-----chem peel----and so on.

After my first peel session,i did not see much of a diff after 7 days where she told me that the peeling process would be completed.Only a few pimples popping out.

TWo weeks later-2days ago,i went for my first D.roller session.she used a 2mm needle and after numbing cream,i did feel she rolled more aggressively on my left cheek, now i have kinda like scratch marks(light ones) on my left cheek-though i see it getting fainter,i m still worried that i might not go away.ON the other hand where most of my scars are on the right cheek,i did not see any improvement (yet).

However the funny thing is i have heard that the redness will prolong till the 3rd day and so on.

For me on the contary,i bled like profusely whe rolling but the redness completely went away after 20 hrs.(completely!)

Well basically,i am writing to share my experience and will definitely keep you updated.

But i would also like to ask those who have rather respectable knowledge on these treatments if this combination of treatment i a doing(peel and d.roller) would work on my face 17 year old or is it a good combination and should not see a problem.

I just cant stop panicking because i have isolated myself from everyone i knew (other than my parents) because of my scars for a year already even though i m 17,and channeled my anger on my studies so that at least i could be a good student.

Once again i would like to thank you in advance for your replies.

Decided to post an update since it has been a while.

Yes, I'm still rolling and needling. Improvements are slow but I still keep at it because I'm still progressing little by little..I still have plenty of stubborn scars that don't want to respond. I have recently begun individually needling my most stubborn scars and doing my best work to date. Definitely getting enough penetration and hitting the scars with enough volume that I don't think I could do it any better. I'm hoping this finally gets my deepest most stubborn scars moving along. Only time will tell.

Still rolling with a 2.0mm roller. Have not noticed a significant difference compared to a 1.5mm roller yet. But the jury is still out and I am giving it more time.

I feel my approach is at it's best to date. I'm trying some new things and techniques to see how it works..I will wait to post about them when I have given them enough time.. The next few months will be very telling for me. I will keep you guys posted.

Good luck munsooned.

I'm still rolling too, though not as often as I would like. I think rolling is helpful but I don't think it will ever lead to miraculous improvements for those of us with bad scars.

Yet I'm feeling much better about my skin even though it's still pretty bad compared to most. A 20% improvement has helped my confidence 100%.

What are you doing for numbing before rolling? Are you using Emla? Do you get it through ebay?

Thanks pogo:) Glad to hear you are still keeping at it and you are feeling better about yourself. That is awesome! But yeah, deep scars are very hard to treat with derma rolling. Heck, they are hard to treat with any treatment. Even what look like small scars are not easy to treat. It is an all around extremely difficult challenge for us. I just continue to try and find a way.

I don't use anything to numb my skin. I begin rolling very lightly and slowly increase the intensity. This gives my skin a chance to numb itself some what. And I do all my rolling over the course of a few sessions which makes it much easier to deal with.

so mun you've been rolling for over a year now right? how much of an improvement have you had since you started. i've rolled 2 times so far, going to again this week. so far my skin has become smoother and some hyperpigmentation has faded but my scars haven't changed.

Good question andrew.

Rolling helps my skin look better, but I'm not sure if it improves my indentations.

I think rolling helps any redness I have and it makes my skin firmer.

Are my indentations becoming less deep? I'm not sure. But heck, my general complexion looks a little better bc of rolling so i will keep it up for a while.

pogo and mun,

are you using led lights to facilitate better healing/treating with dermarolling?

that really ups your chances of eliminating the scarring.
