A Couple Of Questions

Hi :)

Question 1:

Ive had moderate acne for about 3 years now, and this 4th year it has started to be less active acne, however a lot of red spots (hyperpigmentation) left from the acne.

For the last couple of days ive been somewhat happy with my skin.. ive been using acne.org cleanser and moisturizer, and just this.

I decided to try a glycolic acid peel at a spa saloon as I felt my skin could improve a lot more, mainly because I have a lot of flakyness on my skin after I wash my face, which I believe has irritated and caused redness in my skin quite a bit, but i dont really know.

So I went through the threatment which is from Elixir Cosmeceuticals, a norwegian brand. The peel had a 10% strength and was the mildest she had, but it still felt really bad on my skin. As soon as she started putting it on i just wanted to put my head in a bucket of water, and my eyes automaticly got tears in them. Is this a normal reaction?

I asked her if it was looking like a allergic reaction, and she said no.

Question 2:

When she was cleaning my face before the threatment she said her towels got yellow, and im guessing this comes from the jojoba oil. Her advice was to stop using that moisturizer cause it most likely would clog pores as it is kind of a "layer" on top of the skin. What is your experiences?

Question 3:

She gave me an advice to start using a product called sulfactil. This is to be used at night and works as a moisturizer and "redness-fighter".

Ingridients:

Deionized water, Petrolatum, Sulfur, PolyacrylamideC13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth 7, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Hexylene Glycol

Does anyone have any experience with this stuff or the ingridients?

Thanks a lot for any response :)

1) Some people can't tolerate any percentage of glycolic acid, myself included. I have very sensitive skin and the few peels that I've had were very painful (and also counterproductive as they left my skin very red). However, from what I've been told burning is quite common for peels especially if it was your first time- so wait and see if the peel is helpful and if it doesn't negatively affect your skin then I guess it's safe to assume that the burning was just the peel doing its job!

2) I've never had any problem with jojoba oil. Don't quote me on this as I don't know the specifics, but I've read in many places that jojoba oil is meant to mimic or be similar to the naturally occuring sebum on your skin...I don't know but it's not meant to break you out and it's never broken me out.

3) http://www.zerozits..../acnedetect.htm if you scroll down theres a table with a list of ingredients and their rating on a comodogenic and irritant scale! Hope this helped somewhat smile.png

Thank you so much! smile.png this helped me a lot indeed.

Its been about an hour since i did the treatment and my skin is still red, however i can tell that it is normalizing. I hope it will work, eventhough my skin looks way more irritated right now..

Ive never broke out from jojoba oil myself.. strange that she doesnt know about oils a such when she works with skin though. That got me worried!

Thanks again smile.png

edit: did the peels work out for you?

Happy to help smile.png and if you had the peel today then the redness is perfectly normal! The redness should subside in 1 or 2 days (or longer if the percentage is stronger).

And nah, the peels weren't so effective for me. They irritated my supersensitive skin and now my face is really thin and red. However, I have really sensitive skin so hopefully you'll be fine! smile.png

What percentage of acid did you use? I got a little worried now... I did this partly to get rid of my redness

It was mostly my fault, it was a 40% peel done at home by an inexperienced me...not a good combination. I knew that even before when I used 10% AHA my skin would react badly but somehow thought I'd be immune to 40%...it's my superman complex that makes me think I'm invincible ahah

But in all seriousness if you've had such a low percentage administered by a professional it should be okay. Just keep an eye on it and see if it starts to fade in a day or two (which it should) :)
