Yes, I always see mixed results in terms of weight loss/gain. All this time I've been worrying about losing weight (I've already lost quite a bit, and I'm already small as is) since I'll be cutting out the big sources of my calorie intake (carbs). Then, I go on to read accounts like biology's and, although putting on a little extra weight doesn't bother me, I was a little worried about packing a bunch of fat, wondering where it'd all go. I see it'll be a good source of energy as long as I exercise regularly.
I'm a 5'1 108-110 lbs (49 kilos) girl so 1500 is sufficient to keep me going, although 2000 doesn't significantly affect my weight. Anything above probably does haha. Since I'm doing this for overall health and energy, and not for acne (though I'm sure it would help with what little I have), it seems pretty counter-intuitive to go on the diet to sacrifice those very things I seek.
I'm also curious what other benefits you saw from the diet?
How many calories were/are you taking in a day? I'd still be cooking with olive oil and stuff. I'll probably take 4 tbsp of coconut oil max per day. What I'll be eating will probably consist just of meats, eggs, veggies. I'm pretty small so to sustain my weight and survive I'll just need 1500 calories a day. If I keep it in the 1500-2000 range, even with all those fats, I should be fine? Or does it not matter? Haha, acne isn't my problem so I'm not too worried. It's overall health and energy.
I never really count calories but on an average day I eat 1 or 2 large piece of salmon or some other meat like ground turkey, a mini game hen.. etc.. And then for veggies I usually have 1-3 zucchini's or a couple broccoli heads w/ ghee.. I also eat a lot of avocados .. I think on a average day I am getting over 2000+ calories.. You should be fine with all the fats..

My mood has evened out.. I don't have sugar highs and lows any more.. Less anxiety and depression. Skin has over all better tone.. My wounds heal faster then they use to.. Hair and nail growth are pretty fast... I just feel better all over.. I never have that 'sick all over' feeling that I use to get when I ate things like pizza, fast food and candy.. I don't get cravings anymore.. My face is less dry and of course I have much less acne... Overall I just feel healthy in comparison to everyone around me.. I feel like everyone around me is always getting sick etc when I never do anymore.. My over all immune system has gotten so much better over all... I would like to eat some fruit one day again but I cant possibly imagine putting all of the processed foods back into my body ever again! BTW I didnt gain any weight really when I just ate coconut oil.. It is the butter that added on the extra 5 pounds.. I am def bigger in my leg/butt/breast area.. But over all I still have a tiny stomach and I look small..

You've obviously chosen the acid but sugar-low way. That's fine. Walnuts aren't the best nuts though. Substitute them with hazelnuts and you'll have less problems. Use lemon juice on vegetables to lower the glycemic response. Don't eat too much onion or garlic or you'll have a herxheimer reaction. A lot of people think they're allergic to onion or garlic while they are in fact just killing too much candida at once. As the body can't release so many toxins at once, you become stressed, irritable, and you get skin problems (as the body releases toxins through the skin). This looks a lot like an allergic reaction.
Avoid legumes, as they have a bigger effect on your sugar levels than you might think. I ate lentils yesterday, my face is all red (I don't easily get zits, but still, I look awful).
Keep doing exercise, as that releases the toxins through sweat. This will help you recover from candida much much faster. It will of course reduce stress.
If you have chin acne, you have stress issues. Do some meditation, go for a walk, ...
If you have forehead acne, you have digestion issues. Don't mix nuts with fruit.

Wow you seem like you know a lot about acne/food! Thanks for the information.. I have already cut out all nuts including walnuts (because they were breaking on the left side of my face in tiny little bumps) I havnt had legumes in I dont know how long but I wish I could eat them! Thanks for the advice about hazelnuts maybe I will try to eat some one day and hope for the best. And I know what you are talking about reguarding the garlic (I had a bad breakout all released through my face .. But this was a while back) I have chin acne mostly.. so I guess it is related to stress. Thaks for the info!
Update! I dont think I have candida anymore however I will stay on this diet and take a minimun of 3 tablespoons of coconut oil everyday.

Diet¦ Diet is one of the single most important things a person can do for themselves. After I cut out all sugars and processed foods my mind cleared and my body could function better. I believe the diet should consist of basic God made foods that are all natural. I have had a lot of progress with eating lots of vegetables, meats with no added hormones and antibiotics, and lots of good fats like ghee and coconut oil.
Exercise.. Exercise is important for many reasons. It keeps you stress levels to a minimum and helps you balance your over all energy. No matter what form of exercise, running, yoga, walking, riding your bike, it is all beneficial for you. Throughout my journey I have taken a liking to different forms of yoga, zumba dancing, and running out doors. I also like the elliptical machine and weights if I cannot get out in nature to exercise.
Vitamins and supplements.. These are very important! I have found a balance between taking all of these vitamins on a daily basis. Make sure the ingredients have no added soy, rice, or wheat.
Vitamin C 1000-4000 milligrams
Vitamin B complex 50 along with a niacin tablet
Vitamin E 400 mg
Vitamin A shark cod liver oil (10,000 IU)
Herpanacine (Vitamin A Vitamin E Zinc Selenium)
Symbotics Colostrum (two tablets in the morning)
Vitamin D (1000 IU)
Spiritual Practice.. Try to meditate right when you wake up in the morning for at least an hour. I love to do Kundalini Yoga.
Affirmations.. Try to take a mirror.. Whatever negative side effect you are having that day you need to release and affirm in a mirror. This also works very well by doing a tapping method. Some of you might not know what affirmations or tapping is so I will go over each. Okay so my problem was loving and accepting myself for who I am (side effect of this is acne). Every day I would wake up and start to critize my skin and think negative things about it. Even when it cleared up a lot I still couldnt get the negative images out of my head. Whatever your problem might be, if you wake up and dont want to go to work. If you wake up and cant get out of bed because of depression. If you get really angry throughout the day¦ This method maybe altered a bit will work for you. I am going to do the method for acne and healing your skin because that was one of my main problems. First take a mirror, in the sunlight if possible. While looking in the mirror you want to say, ÅI release the need to critize myself. I love and accept myself for who I am. I am safe. However, while doing this you also want to use a tapping method to help solve your negative issues. There are many places you can Åtap and affirm at the same time. I start with my hands, and I take one hand kind of in a karate chop motion and chop at the section underneath my pinky on the outside of my hand. While I do this I say the affirmation as much as I can. The more you do it the better. After that you want to move to the top of your head, and say the affirmation another 3 or four times. ÅI release the need to critize myself. I love and accept myself for who I am. I am safe. While saying it this time you tap at the middle of your head. Then you move to your forehead, and start lightly tapping there with your hand. After this move to the two temples on each side of you face, tap and affirm a few more times. After this you do your upper cheek bones, then your upper lip, and your chin. Last, but not least (and my personal favorite and best relief) is my chest. You tap right under your collar bone, while looking in the mirror. Say the affirmation another 5 or 10 times, or however many times you can do it. Now notice if you feel a sense of release, if the negative emotion is still there when you say the affirmation, or you do not truly believe the affirmation yet then do the whole process all over again till relief is felt and you believe what you are saying. In my case once again, ÅI release the need to critize myself. I love and accept myself for who I am. I am safe.
I also want to add that someone who helped me a lot is named Kelly Howell .. Just google her.. She makes these tapes and ever since I have been listening to them (they have positive messages in them) My skin is completely clear.. She has helped me more then the tapping method because she has reenforced so many positive thoughts in me that I can not be neative anymore!

Hi everyone I had to write on here because I KNOW how horrible it is t suffer from scarring. I had scarring to the point where it was causing BDD for a while.. JUst wanted to write on here that I CURED it MYSELF.. NO TREATMENTS. I had some ice picks from retina a, large pores, and some picked black heads that were dented in. No my skin isnt perfect as a babys.. But I feel beautiful again. I lasted about 23 days on a pure water fast.. Ate watermelon for 2 days and am now fastng again till day 36. My skin healed so beautifully that I am going to do another fast in about 30 days. It's amazing.. Im not embarrassed to go home and see my friends anymore. Its a true miracle of God. I use no products, just wash my face with some water. Sometimes face wash. I have taken a break from all makeup including eye makeup. And have had water for the past 24 days. My skin looks BEAUTIFUL. I look in the mirror and feel pretty. All my acne has healed besides a few small white eads. But most of all my top layer where ice picks were have healed SO much. Good luck to al who try water fasting for their scars.
Also I wated to add I will be getting off the candida diet after this. I will be doing this diet instead.. I felt to grose just gorging on meat all the time..

Eczema and Diet - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
It is highly recommended that all of the produce, meat and grains that you choose to consume should be from organically grown sources .
Timing of Eating - Natural Body Cycle:
You should eat in compliance with the body's metabolic cycle . The body seems to have three different metabolic periods which cycle every 24 hours.
- Elimination and maintenance period: From 4am to noon the cells are dumping waste products, and manufacturing and/or repairing cells. Choose foods for breakfast that allow your body to continue the process of elimination and maintenance.
- Digestive period: From noon to 8pm the body's metabolism is geared towards digestion. Since digestion of foods demands a tremendous amount of energy, it would make sense to eat the biggest meal our body can digest between noon and 8pm (Cousens, pp. 101-102). The earlier within this time frame, the better (I personally eat my biggest meal between 3:30 and 6pm).
- Assimilation period: From 8pm to 4am the body is mobilizing nutrients and directing them to the cells.
Eating in compliance with these three metabolic periods will afford more efficient digestion, assimilation, cleansing and maintenance of the cells and therefore proper healing can occur.
Here's how I've learned to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner so that what I eat honors the function of the metabolic periods.
Breakfast:
Start your day with fruits. They are the simplest and most efficient way for the body to produce energy and to continue the process of elimination and maintenance.
- Eat some raw fruits in the morning: apples (eat the skin also), pears, oranges, bananas....etc. or,
- Make a fruit smoothie. Add into the blender with some spring water or fresh coconut water, some of your favorite fruits. Examples: bananas, mangos, papayas, figs, different types of berries, peaches, dates, apricots and coconut meat. The only fruits not to add in the smoothie mix are melons, blueberries and grapefruit. It is recommended that you eat these fruits separately. If you are worried about the sugar content of the fruits, then choose your fruits from the low-glycemic foods family to start your day with. Here's a list: apples, oranges, cherries, peaches, all berries, plums and pears. These fruits will release their glucose into the blood more slowly and thus require a more moderate insulin response.
Add to your smoothie two tablespoons of golden flax seeds freshly ground in a coffee grinder and the following super food supplements: wild crafted blue green algae, green drink mix, organic unheated coconut oil and probiotics. It is highly recommended that you add all of the superfood supplements in your morning smoothie.
Lunch:
Lunch time occurs during the digestion period. I recommend you eat this meal before 4pm.
For cooking use either fresh, unheated coconut oil or ghee (clarified butter). For cold preparation, use extra virgin olive oil. Veggies are either lightly steamed or raw.
Choose from the following lunch meals:
- Salmon and vegetables.
- Halibut and vegetables.
- Oysters and vegetables
- Brown rice and vegetables.
- Sweet potatoes and vegetables.
- Potatoes and vegetables.
- Boiled eggs and vegetables.
- Soft raw goat cheese and vegetables.
- Ezekiel or Manna bread (sprouted grains) with avocado, tomato, cilantro, and/or olives.
- Vegetable soup and ezekiel bread or salad.
- Large salad with an assortment of vegetables with added raw nuts or soft raw goat cheese. Make your own fresh salad dressing, (my favorite recipe is a mix of raw almond butter, apple cider vinegar, fresh lemon, tamari sauce, maple syrup, cumin powder, garlic powder, and some fresh assortment of herbs).
- Steamed green beans with boiled potatoes and a small salad.
- Miso soup, brown rice and steamed vegetables.
- Sauted mushrooms in coconut oil with tamari sauce for taste mixed with brown rice and a small salad.
- Mashed potatoes using coconut milk and butter, with sauted mushrooms in tamari sauce and a small salad.
Dinner:
Dinner time occurs during the digestion period. I recommend you eat this meal by 8pm. A glass of vegetable juice at night is the most important meal to help you heal from eczema quickly. Make sure you drink a 16 to 24 oz. dark green veggie juice every night . (This veggie juice would consist mostly of dark green vegetables such as parsley, kale, cucumber, zucchini, bell pepper, celery and cilantro).
Some recommended vegetables for nightly juice:
- Celery - two stalks. Celery gives the body a natural diuretic effect and aids in the elimination of carbon dioxide from the body. The sodium content will neutralize acid ash (residue of acidic foods) in the body,
- Parsley - 1/2 bunch. Extremely high in nutrients. An excellent cleanser and potentiator of all bodily functions.
- Carrots - Two med. size. Because most of the phytochemicals are located at the top part of the carrot, don't cut the top off, instead leave the hat part, but discard the green shoots.
- Cilantro - 1/4 bunch. Has the ability to remove mercury, lead, cadmium and other heavy metals from the body.
- Kale - 2 to 3 leaves. A very nutrient rich vegetable. One of the best cancer fighting vegetables found on our planet. Kale is the richest of all leafy greens in carotenoids (powerful anti-cancer agents). Kale's calcium content is easily assimilated, making it a wonder food for arthritis, osteoporosis, bone loss disorders and skin health.
- Cucumber - 1/2 cucumber. A great diuretic (helps remove excess fluids from the body because it promotes urination). Excellent as a blood cleanser. (If you burn your skin, cut a cucumber open and apply it for relief from pain.)
- An apple to sweeten your juice.
Add and alternate, in very moderate amounts, to your basic vegetable juice every night: 1/4 beet, some cabbage, zucchini, bell pepper, bok choy... etc.
If you are still hungry after this drink, eat some raw (organic whenever possible) nuts and/or seeds. Pine nuts (highest protein content of all nuts), walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds (unsalted and raw), and soaked almonds.

Feb 16 2012 update on what has been helping
I have experimented with a lot of things.. The candida diet, zapping machines, water fasts, the frutarian diet etc.. What worked you ask? Am I clear yet?
Well right now I am in ANOTHER water fast it is my 3rd day so far.. And guess what organ is detoxing once again? My SKIN.. So right at the moment I am not clear only one small pimple on the left side of my chin which is awesome. before the water fast was I clear? Yes I was not perfect but nothing active. I will answer some questions you may have.
Did the candida diet work?
Maybe to cleanse my system of the candida (if there ever was any) but in the long term NO the diet does not work. You have to take far to many supplements among other things for this to be a natural diet that people should be on. In the end I think it actually made things worse for the texture of my skin because of all of the odd supplementation and no LIVE fruits and veggies.
Am I glad I went on the candida diet?
Yes I am! It taught me a lot about my body. I enjoyed the diet overall and it was a great learning experience.
Would I go back to that diet?
No not in a million years! It was to strainous not to mention your body is not suppose to be acidic all the time which is what meat primarily does to the body.
Did it clear me?
Never 100% It did for the most part but after it cleared me the acne came back and my skin texture looked gross

What did the water fast do?
It healed a ton of scars, smoothed the texture of my skin and got me eating healthy again and off of all the meat and oil. My skin healed so much on the water fast it was amazing. I am actually doing another one right now. On my third day and my last blackhead is starting to come out . The first water fast got rid of all my other blackheads and filled in my pores and scares that had formed from the off supplementation of the candida diet.

What have you been eating since the water fast?
:Lots of fruits and veggies! Lots of carbs. I experimented a little after and figured out if I eat mostly fruits and a tin bit of veggies I stay clear. When I tried to bring in potatoes and butter I started breaking out again. Went right back to the fruit diet and was clear again. Not to mention my skin just looks healthier and people have actually complemented my skin since I have been on the fruit diet. You are suppose to eat 80% of your calories from carbs in the form of fruits, 10% protein (also getting from fruits and veggies) , and 10% fat (also from fruits and veggies). Yes sometimes I have more avocado then needed but I love this diet and I am enjoying eating again compared to the candida diet where I felt deprived from things that were sweet.
So what do you eat now?
Apples, oranges, apricots, plums, avocado, lettuce, kale, watermelon, honey due, blackberry, raspberry, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, peaches, mango, papaya, bananas and well you get the idea! Those are just some of the fruits and veggies that I eat! I also make a green drink a few days of the week or just whenever I can. I use anything from broccoli, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, etc. I try to eat about 1400-2500 calories per day of these foods. I eat chia seeds sometimes and will try to add nuts in. I also have salmon (raw mostly) or tuna (also raw) wrapped in seaweed if I am really craving it. I did cheat and ate sweet potato and butter but after a few days of that I was breaking out so if I do cheat it will only be once in a while. This diet makes your body primarily alkaline.
How do you transition?
Very slowly.. I went straight into a water fast and you cant break a water fast with anything from the candida diet like chicken or fish or oils so I had to start eating fruit. That's when I noticed changes! So my transition was immediate right after water fasting. Douglas Grahams book 80/10/10 has been helping me stay on track. Not 100% sure if I will be 80/10/10 but I am going more in that direction right now.
Will you expect healing reactions such as breakouts from a water fast or the raw food diet?
Yes I went through them but now I look almost like my old self before I ever had acne Wish I would of found this before I tried dermarolling, facials, supplements, the candida diet, creams, lotions, products etc.. My skin would be perfect if I had found this diet before..
How much exercise do you do everyday?
I try to run 30 minutes to an hour every day. I also lift weights and to strength core workouts like yoga 3+ times per week. My endurance is better then ever and this is the first time I have ever been able to run an hour at a time without getting tired.
Here is my old log.. I don't want to delete it because I feel everything I went though should stay here because it was a huge learning process for me I'll add more as I learn more. I'll cross out what really didn't help me and add on what had been helping me now
1) Find out your allergins (for example eggs break me out really bad)
2) Go on the candida diet strictly (taking the coconut oil everyday)
3) Exercise everyday (at least 3 miles and do legs/arma/chest/stomach workouts too
4) No picking!!!!!!!!!!
5) Clarisonic skin brush (worth the $$$$)
6) High frequency machine (you dont need it but it did help when I has big bumps) However now I dont use it at all and I am clear
7) Red light therapy (for scars)

Please read these books if you have acne or symptoms of BDD like looking in the mirror all day or avioding mirrors all together... VERY important to have SELF LOVE before your acne will go away
10) Most important is to LOVE YOURSELF.. It will persist no matter the diet until you truly do
Other things that helped....
1) My diet contained no carbohydrates for 3/4 months besides the ones in nuts and veggies. For three months all I ate was salmon, veggies, and almond butter/nuts. However, I have now cut out nuts completely including almond butter.. You have to cut out nuts because they are so hard on your digestive system if it is not balanced. Cheating with nuts is okay once in a while though!
I still eat Lots of fish which has the good natural omegas. My diet consists mostly of salmon, shrimp, zucchini, onions, spinach, avocados, broccoli, green peppers, green veggies, and chicken, turkey, coconut oil, red peppers, sea salt, pepper, ginger, various natural spices, and almost any veggie.
2) Red/infrared light and blue acne light used almost every day for the first four months.. now since my skin is almost clear I use it about once or twice a month. **Update** I do not use the blu light at all anymore. Now I use the red/infared LED light about 1-4x per month.
3) Around 2000 mg taurine powder everyday + b-complex 25 + seltzer water (stopped taking taurine however I didnt want to delete it because I did do t for he first 6 months or so of this diet)
4) Acupuncture (was not a cure all but helped with my stress and get me more balanced).. Update.. Met another acupuncturist who (the real deal who doesnt even speak english) and he said my chin area had no blood circulation (the area where I break out) he stuck 2 needles in my face by my chin and a bunch all over my body. He also gave me a bad of some kind of herb or something. Ever since my skin hasnt broken out at all... But it has only been a week. My best advice is find a GREAT acpuncturist.. Someone with over 20 years experience.. They should beable to read your pulse with and know exactly what is wrong with you.
5) Drink only water.. (about 9 glasses a day or 13 if you are a boy) (not needed if you consume tons of fruit)
6) Exercise.. I wanted to add this because it's VERY important to help with my stress.. My choice of stress relief is running, dance, and yoga.. Remember stress=acne
I also wanted to add meditation to this section. Since I have started meditating I feel a lot more balanced and better about my skin texture.
7) Vitamins and supplements I have been taking everyday are
1000-4000 mg vitamin C
b complex 25 or 50 2x per day along with 100mg niacin 2x per day
calcium
vitamin D (1000 mg)
magnesium
vitamin A/zinc/selenium/vitamin E
1 tablespoon full of cod liver oil (when I dont eat fish).. Havnt been doing this lately because I take 20,000 IU vitamin A instead along with vitamin D and I eat salmon a lot!
1 teaspoon full of celtic sea salt
HCL supplement (only when I had digestive problems which I dont have anymore so I dont need HCL anymore)
1 tablespoon full of olive oil (sometimes)
colostrum (2 pills every morning)
YOU get ALL the vitamins you need from FRUIT and VEGGIES! (I also have fish once in a while for B12)
8) Coconut oil (5-6 tablespoons a day)... Update.. I only take about 1-3 tablespoons per day now since I am healthy
9) Apple cider vinegar.. Update.. Dont really take this anymore but it did help when I did take it!)
10) No harsh products on my face
1) Exfoliate once or twice a week with Clarisonic skin brush I only do it when I see excess skin once every great while
12) 20 minutes of sun everyday
13) oil pulling (you swish coconut oil in your mouth one to three times per day for about 20 minutes and then spit it out.. it pulls lots of toxins out)
Things the broke me out at some point during is experiment
1) Carrots (I have drank carrot juice everyday for weeks and had no breakouts so I guess it was just a detox symptom)
Not sure about the rest of this stuff but ill leave it up here.. I haven't really tried eating it since the fast so I cant so what it would do as of 2012

4) Diet coke
5) Sugar free red bull
6)Lobster
7) Nuts gave me minor breakouts on my chin but nothing to bad

PS. My acupuncturist said that I have 'allergins' and bad circulation.. Which I suspect had something to do with my acne issues. I'll keep everyone updated! I wanted to add one last thing though.. Everynight I started listenig to these CD's by Kelly Howell. All of he CD's are good but right now I reccomend Living prayer, Universal Mind Meditation, Weight Loss, and Positive Thinking. She has helped me a ton change my thinking from negative acne thoughts, to positive beautiful thoughts.
The KEY to clear skin is not only diet and exercise.. But far more important is your THOUGHTS and BALANCE in LIFE. Until you can look in the mirror at youself and truly say I LOVE YOU and I ACCEPT MYSELF just as you are, you will probably still have problems with acne. (Acne stems from dislike of the self) Good luck to all..
Yes 80 10 10 is extreme.. Never actually finished the book. Got off the diet a couple months ago and was so clear and healed that my body could handle CHOCOLATE, chicken, nuts, fish, beans etc.. But of course it only handled it for about a month and I noticed minor inflammatory again. So I am on a 9 day water fast right now.. Day 5 starts tonight. Then it's back to watermelon and mostly 80 10 10 just till my gut heals again and I will add in more. If you suffer please try a juice or water fast ..or even just eat watermelon for 2 weeks.. It healed me After 5 days water fast my skin is beautiful and glowing.. Not to mention pores close and scars heal faster.. Good luck to all
Middle of day 6 .. and 11 tonight it will be day 7.. I almost want to give up but dont because my skin is looking so awesome.. After 9 days im going to drink green/fruit juice and eat lots of watermelon.. I'm thinking of extending this fast to a juice fast after 9 days but IDK depends what my intuition says.. Water fast.. Dont know how long im going to go.. but im going to blog here.. may be 24 hours or longer but everyday im going to post how im feeling and the effects so that it may one day help someone else..
Last meal was around 11 pm last night and its about 10 pm tonight so I have been on the fast for 24 hours..
Symptoms= headache
hunger (not real your body always goes through this the first few days)

skin.. clear but it is amazing what fasting can do after a few weeks
