So the logic here is that since people did not break out back in the day and they did not follow a regimen, we should follow the same road. First of all, many people did break out. It is only natural as the hormones in one's body go through changes. Now, let's talk about this whole not washing your face ordeal - I am amazed at how no one noticed that Waterwater did this in the summer months! The sun's rays kill bacteria and slowly clear skin begins to emerge. My guess is that Waterwater's clearing of the skin was largely influenced by the sun and summer air which keeps skin moist. (Hence, Waterwater stating they did not need to use lotion. - This would not be true in the winter.) At one point Waterwater said they were "baked" from the sun. Gasp. Sun damage will do more harm than pimples alone. Not only WILL skin break out from sun damage but the permanent condition your skin is left with is simply unforgiving. Leaving oil on the skin's surface will cause break outs. It's a no brainer. If medicated lotions, cleansers, etc. irritate your skin, wash with a non medicated gentle face wash TWICE per day and apply light, oil free lotion to skin. EVERY skin type NEEDS lotion. Also, going back to the whole taking an example from the elders idea of not washing your skin because they, apparently, didn't when they were young - their life style was completely different. The world that you and I live in today is not the world they lived in years ago. We have horrible pollution in the air that sticks to your pores every time you go outside, unless you are working in the field all day where the air is clean, you ARE being exposed to the pollution. Leaving this on your skin for days will of course cause you to break out. The food we eat has added preservatives and chemicals. The food people ate years ago was whatever they hunted, grew, or fed (animals). We cannot compare our skin conditions to any other generations. I am not saying to go to your dermatologist and begin applying harsh creams or gels to your skin, but there is nothing wrong with that if that is what you need. Sometimes, due to the many unfortunate pollutants, chemicals, preservatives we are exposed to, our bodies need more than just washing it with a gentle cleaner. (I am living proof of that.) If not washing your face worked for you, congratulations. Just please don't go baking in the sun without SPF like Waterwater and then post it here for people to read. That's an uneducated remark. If you choose to ruin your skin, leave it at that - for yourself.
A healthy diet, exercise, sleep and a positive outlook absolutely make a huge difference in the appearance of skin. Also, drinking a lot of water cleanses out the toxins in your body. But if you still break out after following these previous examples, then do not hesitate to speak to your dermatologist. He/she will try to unclog your pores through medicated creams, gels, or perhaps antibiotics. It is also helpful to see an endocrinologist and have hormone levels tested. Too many people walk around with undiagnosed hormonal acne.
Good luck to you all! Always choose what you believe is best for YOU.

So as of now my skin is the flakiest when I wake up in the morning, but then the loose flakes fall off by lunchtime. On the contrary my flakes are less visible/better after showering for whatever reason at nightime. Overall the flakiness is still decreasing slowly. No active pimples right now, just one or two that are healing. how's everybody else doing?

I've 2 questions to all those not washing their faces:
1. Do your faces smell bad?
2. Do they look grubby?
Thanks

1. No.
2. No, in fact my complexion and tone have improved drastically. The only issue is the flakes when looking up close.

Dude, if you can, do not wash your face with anything during the healing or recovery process which is a month. Cleansing your flaking face as attested to by adam08 simply extends the time it takes to flake. Bear the excessive flaking till it subsides completely. But still have a body wash everyday as you need to.

I don't "wash" my face at all, I simply do not try and avoid water from trickling down my face while taking a shower. The important thing is is that I'm not rubbing it off or touching it in any way thus letting it heal. As I have stated b4 the flakiness IS subsiding with each passing day this way. I have thought about avoiding water completely, but I was inspired by iamsnow to not worry about it so Im not. If water touches my face in the shower so what? big deal. It will heal just fine, I have faith.

How about your pores? All my pores in my t-zone (nose, moutharea) are clogged, and dried sebum is sticking out of everyone one of them. It looks really nasty, and u can see it really good.
Will this go away? Because if i do nothing, it just stay there.
Am on day 10. I let water run down my face every 2-3 days.

I would say that this is common among all who have/are doing this. Stick with it. Remember your skin takes 28 days to completely shed off the old skin and replace it with the new skin so I would give it 4 weeks. The first 2-3 weeks are the toughest b/c there is not noticable improvement (at least for me). Not untill week 3 did I see unquestionable improvement in dead/flakey skin. If you're looking to wake up one day and it all be gone overnight you're going to be dissapointed. Adopt a "who cares" attitude and try not to look at yourself in the mirror unless you have to, because if you continually keep looking/dissecting it I've found that the days and weeks become seemingly longer.

How long have you been on this regimen, how often do you wash yourself and how? And what is this dead/flakey skin everyone is talking about, all i got are those nasty dried up sebum pores sticking 3mm out of every pore. The dried up sebum gets covered by dead skin after some time? Could anyone answer this one?
And you are right, i shouldnt complain. When i look in the mirror and think about it, i have to admit my skin looks so much better right now. No pimples, redness gone, scars almost gone. And the best part, no more BP regiments that took 30min in the morning and leaving skin irritated all day long, and at the end of the day my skin felt so bad i just had to wash my face.

Dude, I am only on my day 4 and I can already see the build up of what you say are nasty dried up sebum in my pores in my nose. It looks whiteheads sticking out of the pores of my nose. And yes, your skin will flake because it will be shedding the dead skin. But the dead skin will build up first on top of your skin and will not shed immediately. This buildup will then cause flaking until your skin reveals it's new healthy layer.
Check out my log dude. I have my experiences there in detail as much as I can. Keep a positive outlook and be strong!
I need help guys, I have been doing this regime for 9days now and washed on the 7th day. My skin hasnt calmed down just kept on getting worse, with yellow heads, specialy after shaving (used electric) Im going to trim from now on.
first question, please veryone give your opinion.
1. Im a builder and can get in extreme dust (actualy get my face looking black, and wearing a mask all day) what would you guys do if u were me? not wash? will the pores get clogged and make acne worse??will the skin clean itself?
2. I also hardly got any dead skin, any reason? i dont look very oily also, but keep getting 2 or 3 new spots a day
Cheers guys , all answers appreciated. Mat
Well I have also been looking at all these threads about the water and no water methods for the past week and it all seems to make sense. Most of us in here are connected since the beginning of our acne by letting all the products and pills run our lives instead of just leaving our faces alone. I wish I wouldn't have freaked out by a few small bumps when I was 14 and started screwing up my complexion. I guess we were inexperienced and now we all have the choice to hopefully change for the long term. I have been doing the no water method for about three days now and I'm seeing the side effects mentioned especially the flaking and some itching. There is a lot of willpower involved in this method of whether to give in and wash your face or hang on longer. I will keep on updating from here on and I hope everyone does as well.
Hello, I have been struggling with acne for years and in my experience washing my face with tap water has done nothing but destroyed my skin. I wash my face with water maybe once a month when I am too dirty or sweaty to stand it any longer. I have also noticed that the more oil that my skin contains the better I look. I find this very ironic because all the doctors out there say that too much oil causes acne. After deciding that doctors don't really have a clue what they are talking about, I did some experimenting of my own.
The oil cleansing method is my favorite method of acne treatment. I use a 50% extra virgin olive oil, 30% caster oil, 15% coconut oil, and roughly 5% tea tree oil. Most guides for the OCM suggest that you wash your face beforehand. In my experience this is a mistake. I have also noticed that if I lather on the oil and do not remove it before I sleep, I wake up to find that the oil has either absobed into my skin or my bed. When I do this my skin looks and feels great. I never seem to find any oil on my pillow so I assume that it just soaks into my skin. The first time I tried this was really a desperate attempt to find something that actually improved the quality of my skin. The only other product that has given me any desireable results was a 5% benzoyl peroxide cream. The cream helped to get rid of my acne, but the dry, red, and irritated skin was not a suitable replacement.
I also enjoyed reading the posts regarding people who sweat a lot and find that their skin improves. I have also experienced this. The more time I spend on the treadmill and restrain from washing my face with water the healthier my skin becomes. I just wanted to share my experience with anyone willing to read this. Please let me know what you think.
PS - The olive oil is a little thick and can encourage pore congestion. There are other lighter oils such as almost oil and flax seed oil that others have said were an improvement. I have also noticed that if I eat a big meal really fast it agrevated my acne. Has anyone else experienced this?

is your face now clear of acne? does the red marks takes a long time to disappear?
I do not know about eating fast, never experienced it before.
I have been trying this for two days now and I already see my acne reducing its redness. Along with this I have been drinking filtered/solar water (about 4.5 liters) and working out (making sure I sweat). I also go out for walks when the sun is out so I don't look like I'm pale and dying. I found out that the winter is very very harsh since the cold dries the skin and the heat inside can dry the skin. I guess my face needs all the oil it can get so I'm gonna continue not washing my face. Thanks!!
Although I will make a proper update at the 2 month mark( I made a long post a while back on this thread) , I have continue to see improvement with avoiding using any kind of chemicals on my face. Just H20! I stop using aloe vera and vitamin e oil as well. Also not to encourage people to stop eating healthy, but I recently started eating again foods I have been avoiding(caffeine, candy, dairy) and my results are still good. I still eat healthy, but now know I can treat myself without repercussions. I would recommend people try only washing their face with water and see what happens before trying fasting or other "extreme" methods to get rid of their acne. Just my 2 cents.
I support your quest to go au natural, I wish I had the courage to do so, I know many people who dont put crappy over the counter products on their face and their skin looks fine, oil is not neccessarily bad our skin needs it, wehn we strip our face of oils our body sends a signal that we need to produce more, now that doesn;t mean rub butter on your face just dont go crazy over washingb your face and stripping the natural oils, if anything your body is healing ny itself the way it should be and imagine its trying to adjust after years of applying topicals.
I myself have nodules on my chin and jaw line and when i wake up in the morning without washing I look alot better, then when I wash it it looks red but then goes down Im thinking I myself will only use lemon juice as a cleanser internally and topically.
Well I am on about 2 months and for the most part the flaky skin has gone away. There are still some small areas that it still appears, near mouth since I have to wash mouth after eating/brushing teeth so the oil gets washed away(but the flakiness if any is really not noticeable). Improvement of my skin in these two months have been substantial. Stick to it.
