itstimeforhealing: i didnt wash with water for weeks at one point. probably a bit excessive i dont know though. maybe it was good for healing. i now pour water over my face every 2-3 days. i use filtered or bottled water
sounds like a good idea, how long do you think i should go for without water? also, could you explain what the acid mantle is exactly? im about to go to a ship so im so glad you posted this routine on here because there is no way i could have done my routine on the ship.

wikipedia: The acid mantle is a very fine, slightly acidic film on the surface of the skin acting as a barrier to bacteria, viruses and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin. These contaminants and other chemicals are primarily alkaline in nature and the skin's moderate acidity helps to neutralize their chemical effects.
cleansers/products etc strip the acid mantle. tap water may even do it. you need the acid mantle to kill off bacteria.
routine very simple. do nothing for a few days/week. whatever. then wash with water every 2-3 days after the initial no wash period. basic idea is to give skin a rest. dont think about it too much. just say to yourself that your skin is healing, as it is.
This sounds awful, but the more i think about it, the more intrigued i become. Clearly my continued use of cleansers for years has not been a cure, so unless this makes things decidedly worse (which is possible), then i have nothing to lose.
A few questions:
1) can this be done in conjunction with oral anti-biotics (tetracycline in my case)
2) surely you would wash after working out, right?
3) has anyone dared to apply a simlar approach to the shoulders area?

1) pills are not natural, you want to try and stay away from anything man made, I used to take tetracycline, doxycycline, monocycline, all it does is kill bacteria inside of you, supposedly stopping new acne from forming. these pills have lots of side affects which are not good for you. try this for one week, only drink pure water, vegetables, lean meats, bread w/o sugar (youd be supprised how many breads have sugar in them, just check the label on the back), and if you feel like snacking try eating some pretzels. its easy to do, you just have to really want clean skin and stay focused on the big picture. sometimes i get cravings for sugar and sweets but you really have understand that it is going to lead to acne (at least for me).
2) your body is going to start to change, you will see that you dont need to wash your skin like you felt like you needed to before, its a good feeling.
3) I get acne on my back and chest and upper arms, so really the only parts i wash is private parts, feet, and armpits, you really dont need to wash anywhere else. and to wash those parts i use cetaphil, just rub some on then wipe off with a clean towel, i dont use any water at all.
bottom line: try it for a week and make sure you have everything in line for it to work, as far as you diet, drinking lots of water, exercise, and relax, try not to look in the mirror too much or stress about your skin, because it will heal itself and its going to just give it time.
GOOD LUCK!
day 3 now, this regimen is the best thing that ever happened to me. for all those who are skeptical about trying this, take my word that it works, really really well.
so, my skin is fading even more and more, and when i say fading i mean the redness, my face is becoming white again, my face used to be really red all over and my eye sockets were plain white, it was like a red raccoon, lol. no new acne, less oilyness, my nose still gets a little bit oily but its less than its was 2 days ago. back and chest are healing well too, no new acne and arms are good to go too. my hair is kinda oily, but i can tell its drying up some. my face feels really good, it used to feel really irritated, and it was either my skin would feel super tight and dry, or super oily it sucked, but my face now feels soft and smooth and healthy, yea i would say healthy is the best word to use.
a good read here that proves our point for us!!!!

Thanks.
I started out on this reg retroactive to my shower after the gym yesterday. Did nothing before going to sleep for the first time (atleast intentionally) in as long as i can remember. I woke up today with excess oil and a couple whiteheads on my face.
I took a shower and just let the water run off of my face for a short while. No scrubbing or wiping. I am going to continue on with the less-is-more approach, but i think i am definitely going to be using water in the morning and at night. If i dont do othat, im going to have clogged pores, and any gains in skin health willl be for nothing. very curious to see where i am in a couple of weeks with this.
well good luck with that, but try not to let the water wash all of your oils from your skin. your skin needs some oil to protect it and keep it moisturized, I know its hard, i have very oily skin myself. but let me know how that goes and keep us posted...
Arthur:
1) I dont see how it would make it worst, but taking too much antibiotics is never good.
2) I always splash my face with cool water if I sweat. I normally work out on the 2nd/3rd day of not washing my face so that I can do the normally cleansing when my body is covered in sweat from exercise.
3) I haven't, but not applying cleansers/body wash to that area may help.
does anyone know what to do about clogged pores, on my nose is where i mostly have oily skin and i was just wondering if anyone knew how to "unclog" these pores. also, i am not using any water for a few more days to let my skin finish healing, so if there is any methods that dont involve water then please let me know. thanks.
Day 4 update... skin is a lot less red, my skin was very red in the beginning, i would say its 50% less red than before. also, not as oily anymore, usually when i wake up in the morning i have to go pat my face with a tissue, didnt have to do that today i am not going to pat my face at all anymore, i am just going to leave my face alone period. i know the pores on my nose are going to clog up but i am confident that my skin will heal itself. no new acne on chest, the ones i had are dried up and gone my skin is super clear on my chest, i just have one more little pimple to go. my back had about 6 from a few days ago, but they are all drying up now and going away. my face has no new pimples and i started with a few small ones but all of them have dried up and my face is clear. my whole face used to be so oily it looked like i had a mask on, but all of it has dried up except on my nose, which i believe will follow suit soon. my hair is still a little bit oily, but is a lot less oily than day 1.
I read a post yesterday, i forgot who wrote it but it said that he hasnt taken a shower in 4 months, he was saying that his skin was perfect now, and that he rarely has to put deodorant on and never put anything on his skin, not even water. so that proves that this works, maybe not for everyone, but im going to see how long i could do this for.
good luck to those who are doing this with me, and i hope i encourage those who are thinking about trying this or the ones who are feeling discouraged and hopeless with they're acne. this is the best thing that has ever happened to me. you know how much acne can hinder you all around, whether it be at work, or in the sun, or cant let your own kids touch your face, or being intimate with your spouse, or just being irritated, or spending all your time in the bathroom or on the internet trying to find a solution. ive been there and it sucks, so i hope that i could help anyone who feels like that. good luck to all and happy new year.

im willing to believe a lot, but that is kind of ridiculous. anyone who has not used water on their skin 4 months does not have perfect skin.

yeah and he does not smell good either you can't believe everything you read. Some people exaggerate and also have different ideas about what constitutes "clear" or "perfect skin"

why would he stink? really think about it, why at all do you need to wash your body? obviously there is no such thing as perfect, but for me having acne for 5 years now anything better than what my skin is like now would be perfect to me. whats the longest you have gone without letting water hit your skin?

why wouldn't he? my wife hasnt washed her face i a very long time, she hates water on her face and she never breaks out. the only time she gets a pimple is when she washes her face, which is like once a year. she always takes baths, not that she has to but she just doesnt like water in her face. so 4 months really sounds like a long time because we are so prone to constantly wash our skin because thats what we are told to do, and thats what makes sense to us, but in all reality we are just hurting our skin and making it worse. i think you should really try it at least for a week before you start making comments about things you dont fully understand. you can read all you want about it, but until you actually follow through with this regimen you wont really know.

Yikes. If you really believe that not showering for four months is a good idea, well, then im kind of embarrassed that i was considering you opinion. i had a gym locker in high school next to a kid on your same "no shower regimen". I literally had to hold my breath to stand next to him.

lets clarify a little bit, I do wipe myself down every night with wipes in my private areas and armpits and wash my feet, and i also use deodorant and brush my teeth. plus im not getting too dirty throughout the day, why are you even in this topic if you are so critical about everything that people are saying. if you were considering trying this then just shut up and do it and get your own results, all i know is that my skin is clearing up and its working so whether i stink or not is irrelevant. good luck to you.
What I've adopted recently is an approach of only washing with water when I'm about to go out. In that case I run lukewarm water over my face, shave (if necessary), then gently wipe a washcloth over my face to get off excess skin. I've only been doing this for about a week but I've noticed an improvement in redness.
I found out that, aside from secluding myself away from the world for several weeks, I have the following problems when using water only/no water:
-Going out in public with oily/flaky skin
-Avoiding the issue of shaving
What I believe is beneficial to this type of regimen is I'm still not washing my face all the time (again, only when I go out -- and there may be several consecutive days I don't wash my face), but when I do, I'm still avoiding cleansers. Before now, whenever I'd break the no wash/water only cycle I'd wash my face with a cleanser to clear all the dead skin/oilyness. Now I'm just using a washcloth gently. It may not be the best use of the regimen, since the common belief is the flakiness is the skin healing, but I believe it's the best I can do. I'll see how things change in the coming weeks.
UPDATE day 5 of no washing... my nose is very oily still and my forehead is a little bit oily, all the pores on my nose are producing oil on top of oil, but im just going to leave it alone let the skin heal itself, back is healing very good still surprisingly, the old pimples i had are still drying out and fading day by day, my chest had one pimple that dried out and is almost gone, so far all around no new pimples and almost all the old ones are gone. my face is not as red as day 1, also my skin is not as itchy anymore and when i sweat it seems to absorb into my skin. before it used to just stay sweaty and oily and i would have to keep patting it dry. my eyes have been itching a little bit i dont know if its related to anything with this regimen but i took a towel and wet a corner and just patted my eyes, it seemed to help a lot. everyone has been saying that the down side to this regimen is the flakiness and going out in public, but honestly who cares what other people think, you know your skin is healing and its going to get better so just stay motivated and ignore your skin let it do its thing. im guess im lucky because im married so my wife knows the deal already and she doesnt care. good luck to everyone else, message me if you need any help or have any questions.
...everyone has been saying that the down side to this regimen is the flakiness and going out in public, but honestly who cares what other people think...
Saying is easy until you actually experienced it yourself. The flakiness is so horrible everyone you know who sees you will either say:
1) what happen
2) wipe it off
both which you cannot answer directly that you aren't washing.
UPDATE, day 6 of no washing, chest is still acne free, back is still healing but no new pimples, no more oiliness on chest or back. my face and neck has no pimples at all, skin is clear, redness still reducing day by day. my nose is not as oily as yesterday but all the pores on my nose are starting to dry up and i got little white bumps on each pore, which is probably dead skin. so i hope my body starts to stop producing so much oil, which looks like what its doing. i havent touched it at all in about 3 days now, it hard to not pat with a tissue, but all in all it looks like its healing. i worked out last night for the first time to try and help my skin exfoliate naturally and my skin absorbed all the sweat and oil so thats a good sign. also, my hair is not as oily as yesterday, so i think it might start being the drying time and my skin might start flaking soon, like everyone else that tried this. but clear skin is worth it.

why cant you tell them? i mean im sure acne looks a lot worse and acne just shows poor diet and health. people who are healthy dont have acne, look at almost any athlete you dont see them having acne, its because they are super healthy with their diet and exercise. its only temporary, your skin is not always going to be like that if they dont wanna be around you because your skin is flaking then forget about them. when your skin is all healed you could be an example to everyone else that has acne and you could be their savior, im sure there is a lot of people out there that have tried everything and feel so hopeless, some people commit suicide over acne and we could be the ones to help them. i know this is tough to do, but in the end its going to be worth it bro. just be honest, most people would be intrigued by this caveman regimen. good luck to you and stick with it, im doing it with you.
