Hi Joelie,

Main thing I started doing differently was taking and rotating the antifungal supplements. I take Baking Soda (2-3 tsps, mixed in tumbler of mineral water and sipped thru the day and after meals). Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (Cold Pressed). Garlic Capsules , Pau D'Arco, Olive leaf Extract. Rotate every 4-5 days but keep taking the baking soda every day.

I only really use the baking soda once a week now. Tiny amount applied to wet face, sometimes I leave it on all day or other 10-15 mins then rinse.

Cleaning up my diet, drinking only mineral water and sticking to the antifungals were the 3 major factors in clearing my skin up.

A little sun does do wonders as well. We don't get much sun where I live but when it does shine I make sure and get some exposure to it.

If you have any further questions Joelie please ask. Thanks.

I am so happy I found this thread...I want to cry.

I have been to dermatoligists who seem to believe I have either SD or Erythroderma. I have had this condition for about 8 years. anything that they have suggested has not worked. i have white spots that will turn red or brownish when faced with high humidity or a workout session. The spots like to hibernate on my stomach, back of my arms, who am I kidding..front of arms too and neck. I started noticing it about 8 years ago, the time that I was a stupid teen who enjoyed tanning beds.

My real relief comes when i spend a month of every year in the Dominican republic. The super hot sun and the ocean water clear it up like nobodys business. Unfortunately, I do not live in a hot climate with beach access all year round.

I also had relief after i watched the series Rome and noticed they were slathering their glistening bodies in olive oil and then scraping their skin off with some type of tool. That technique really did work for me.. the spots seemed to be going away..fresh new skin was exposed but I felt like a greasy KFC chicken breast and started to get acne instead. I would love to just get rid of this old skin.

Thank you everyone for sharing.

I have read this whole thread and am excited to try some of the things suggested.

reading the thread has also made me itchy.

Moonset,

Thanks for the tips. I am going to try the diet. But is there anything else that is good like steak or seafood or fish. I could do the diet but don't want to get sick of vegetables for everyday eating. But if that is what needs to be done then do be it. I will do it. But want to see if other foods ate ok and won't irritate the sd. A little mixup of foods.

Hey no problem.

Yes you can eat food like Steak. You need a bit of protein in your diet. I eat steak, chicken and fish etc. Oily fish is really good for any type of eczema I think. Try and go for a low carb diet to begin with. I found that no carbs at all worked best for me. Any meat you eat should be as unprocessed as possible as well.

You should stick to the diet as best you can and take the antifungal supplements as well on a rotation basis. When you've done a few weeks/months of this look into taking a good quality probitoic as well. Try also to avoid slapping creams and ointments on your SD as they only aggravate/feed yeasts on your skin. I can basically get away with just washing my face with lukewarm water now.

I really hope the steps help you in clearing your SD!!

Moonset, once again thanks. Isnt it weird that more people follow advice of people here than their own derm. I truly believe all those steroids, elidel, protopic that this derm gave me led to this. And to prescribe steroids when I flare and screw my face up is insane. I'm grateful for people like you. Like they say it's easier to get advice from someone who has been there than a creep looking for insurance payments. Sorry to rant!

I'm glad for steak and fish- I I've those 2. Question though how you distinguish unprocessed and processed meat. Also how do I know if a fish us oily. I could eat salads but just not every day. Also is it ok to put moisturizer on face. Otherwise skin gets dried like a bone. I use aveeno. Do you know why sd gets better in the sun. I'm building a pool do I can lay out in sun every day.

Lastly I'm wondering if I have sd. I don't get flakes. Do all sd comes with flakes.

Thanks for all your help. I owe you a beer after I get rid of candida.

Hey no problem at all. Doctors and Dermatologists are useless when it comes to helping you with this type of disease. They don't even know what causes it so to prescribe something like strong steroid creams is really them just clutching at straws. I learned a long time ago to stay well clear of them and my skin benefited greatly.

The best people to ask on treating SD are the people who have lived/coped with it all their lives.

You can try googling 'oily fish' and you'll find more info than I could possibly type here.

All SD cases usually involve flaking but if you keep your skin well moisturised it's easy to keep the flakes at bay. I didn't have flaking for over 20 years but still had SD. I have heard that Aveeno cream is good but I would be concerned about the amount of chemicals in 'off the shelf' creams. You can get good handmade moisturisers on ebay that are free from sulphates, parabens etc.

Sunlight does appear to be very beneficial in treating skin afflictions like psoriasis and eczema. Vitamin D is good for your skin and I also think that sunlight helps stop yeasts, microbes that proliferate on the skin.

I hope you can stick to the diet and the other steps I have mentioned. It takes a lot of patience and willpower but no pain no gain as the saying goes.

Oh yeah: Beers sounds good!!! ;)

Hi Moonset,

do you remember when you had those falkes if they where yellow and crusty?

what are your sd locations on your face?

Did your skintexture stays untouched after 20 years? that's amazing..

If so please advice me in your products you used before... I tried baking soda a few times.. in combination with coconut oil according the curezoneforum. I can keep the bigger flakes at bay.. but always see some tiny teeny white rashes or flakies.. they do harm the skin texture on the long run is my experience.. than you see like bigger pores...

I was wondering if you also still take the brewers yeast.

Is it the same as the yeast from beer.. we call that overhere also brewers yeast.. you can buy it here in the form of tablets. But you can also buy from the bakery for making the bread brewers yeast.

did you also do liverflushing?

In Brussels university they found out in feb 2011 how the flaking process exactly work..when the skin barrier is damaged. i could only find it in dutch.. maybe for the ones who can read dutch

[Edited link out]

thanks..

Hi Moonset,

May I just ask a couple of questions:

1. What type of mineral water do you buy or do you generate your own using a mineraliser/akaliser type of system?

2. When washing your hair/scalp with baking soda what ratio of soda:water do you use?

Thanks.

Hey Joelie,

The main product I used was a zinc oxide based antiseptic cream called Sudocrem. Not only did that keep my skin flake free but it also reduced redness greatly. Best to apply as a facemask and leave on as long as required, overnight is great. I also applied this to face and take really hot bath which opened up pores and let the cream work better. It was one of the few creams that did not aggravate my SD.

I also tried coconut oil but you have to very careful with that and use small amont only on wet face. Coconut oil can bring you out in spots/pimples very easily and can burn skin if too much is applied to dry face. The most advantageous way of taking coconut oil for me is to eat it as it is a great antifungal.

I still have the Brewers yeast here but rarely have to use it now. However it is a great way of getting B Complex vitamins.

Have never tried liver flushing but have done water fasts in the past which was beneficial.

Hope I have answered your questions Joelie!! If you have any more please ask!!

Hi nbar,

I just buy standard bottled mineral water (carbonated). Any type of decent mineral water should be okay. For cooking I use tap water that has been filtered using a typical jug filter.

When washing hair/scalp with baking soda I wet hair in shower the use about 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda sprinkled onto wet hands the massaged thoroughly into scalp. Leave on for few minutes before rinsing. It is easy to find what dosage and how long you leave it on for works best for you.

Hope this helps nbar. Any further questions please ask!!

I want to add the following which will help with Seb Derm as an add-on to Moonset777 suggestions.

1. To get your daily vegetables you can drink a green vegetable smoothie everyday in the morning as a meal replacement for usual breakfast.

hxxp://www.acne.org/messageboard/FABULOUS-Skin-Food-G-t108917.html

2. cut out all dairy (even Kefir, which is dairy)

3. Take a good probiotic 2x a day (1 in morning, 1 evening before bed)

3. Take a high does of VITAMIN D3 (2000-5000IU). Vitamin D3 is said to play a role with controlling eczema.

4- Also you can take a supplement like Mag07 which is Magnesium Oxide Complex that helps with cleaning out the colon. There is many people who say that bacteria in the colon and intestines is what shows up on the skin with rashes. I read this in book by Kimberly Snyder called "The Beauty Detox Solution: Eat Your Way to Radiant Skin"

Can you detail what you eat per day. I am going to follow your routine. I may mix up days but I'm finding it hard to follow unless I have a routine. I would appreciate it. Also supplements and what day to take them. Something like Monday lunch eat this. This is the only way I will be able to keep up. Once these red patches off my face, I'm sending you a bottle of stoli vodka- my favorite. I appreciate your help. It's nice to hear what to do from someone who has gotten rid of this instead of derms who need a paycheck. And who prescribed me steroids such as topicort. Desonide. Cutivate that I feel gave me this crap on my face.

Cutivate that I feel gave me this crap on my face.

I eat the following raw veg:

Lettuce

Broccoli

Cabbage

Kale

Spinach

Carrots

Celery

Rocket

Radishes

Peppers

Sweetcorn

You may want to eliminate carrots and sweetcorn for the first 2-3 weeks of your new diet but introduce them gradually after that. Try also to avoid salad dressings. Mornings I will just eat some raw cut veg with mineral water. Same at around 1pm. Then at 5 or 5 pm I usually have 5 different portions of raw veg eg Lettuce, Spinach, Carrots, Radish, Sweetcorn with a chicken breast or fish, beef etc. You also will want to vary the meat you eat with your evening meal as well as what veg you eat as you will avoid getting tired of eating the same thing. You can look up what veg are best to eat and of course raw is best but cooked will do as well. I also make my own vegetable soup once a week.

There are other healthy eating options available just find out what suits your needs best. Try to keep things varied a bit but stick to those raw veg everyday if you can.

SUPPLEMENTS:

First Thing Morning: Sip baking soda (1/4 teaspoon). Baking soda has been diluted with Mineral or Filtered Tap Water.

10 am: Flaxseed oil 1X 1000mg

Antihistamine: 1X 10mg loratadine (non drowsy)

Chellated Zinc: 15mg

11am Take antifungal supplement. This supplement you will take for four days then for the next four days move onto next one etc etc. I am currently using this cycle Virgin Coconut Oil (Cold Pressed) X 4 days. Garlic X 4 days, Pau D'Arco X 4 days, Clove Oil X 4 days, Apple Cider Vinegar X 4 days, Olive Leaf Extract X 4 days.

So in this cycle of 4 days at 11 am I take 1 teaspoon of Cold Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil.

After 1pm meal: Drink baking soda again.

4pm; Sip Baking Soda.

Before evening meal (5-6pm) 1 teaspoon Virgin Coconut Oil

After evening meal again take drink of baking soda

9pm Sip baking Soda followed by 1 X 1000mg Flaxseed Oil

11pm: 1 teaspoon Virgin Coconut Oil

Before going to bed: 1/4 0r 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (diluted).

That's my daily routine and I stick to it.

The antifungal supplement are those pills or liquid. Also can I get those at cvs. Which brands do you recommend.

What does flaxseed oil do. Is it also a antifungal. For antihistamine will benadryl work but take it at nights or do you know a non drowsy one.

I normally eat hard boiled eggs but throw away yolk in the morning with a banana. Is this also ok. Lately for lunch I have tomatoes, carrots, cucumber and some grapes for desert. At dinner eat a salad but use Italian or oil and vinegar dressing. I know you said dressing is bad but is there a dressing I could use. Salad without dressing dong taste right. On other days eat fish or steak( not a chicken person). With rice or mushrooms. Is this routine possibly ok too.

I know alcohol isn't good but cant go 6 plus months without a little. Are there any good liquor and wine that would be ok. Not all the time but occasionally.

When you say clear does that mean your face has no more red. I need to beat this so I can go to my derm - dr suess and show him I didn't need medical school to get it off my face.

Once again thanks. So happy you had succes and sharing with all of us.

The brands of antifungals and antihistamine I use are probably not available where you live, I use pretty generic ones so you should be able to find similar supplements.

My antifungals are

Virgin Coconut Oil; Cold Pressed (Soild/liquid)

Clove Oil: Liquid (1 drop taken in 100ml of mineral Water)

Apple Cider Vinegar: Liquid

Garlic; Capsules

Olive Leaf Extract: Liquid

Pau D'Arco: Capsules

Flaxseed Oil: Liquid.

The things in your diet I would cut out are Fruit of all kinds, Rice, Mushrooms (mushrooms are a fungus and really bad to eat if you are looking to clear Candida), Salad Dressing with vinegar is not good, vinegar and all malted products are bad for Candida/Seb Derm. You really should try to avoid alcohol when on this diet as it is fermented and once again bad for Seb Derm. If you must drink it have some maybe once a month but it will only hinder you in getting rid of the Candida. Please read on the internet about anti-Candida diet and Flaxseed oil. You will find more info that I could possibly type here.

Yes my face has no more redness, my doctor told me he could see no more signs of Seb Derm.

I have had this redness on the side of my nose for 3 years now and I finally went to the doctor and found out I have seb dermatitis. I don't have it on my scalp or anywhere else besides my nose. The doctor gave me some hydrocortisone cream for it and I have been washing my face with nizoral 2 times a day. It has been more then a month already and I have seen no results. Can someone tell me some other treatment that may work? because anti fungal shampoos and hydrocortisone is not doing it!

I apologise for quickly scanning through the 32 pages on this thread, but I couldnt not see this mentioned anywhere, and was wondering if anyone else is having success using a paste made from chickpea flour and milk, and applying to the nose area, as relief from seborrheic dermatitis ?

Interested in anyones thoughts.

Moonset,

Thanks for the tips. I've been using baking soda to wash my hair for the past week and the redness/itchiness/flaking has subsided considerably :). I notice in your previous posts that you also use a tiny amount of baking soda for your face. Do you simply massage onto your face in the shower like you do with your hair or do you use it differently?

Thanks again.

I am convinced that the topiclas gave me this awful out break. Iused finacea and broke out horribly on my left cheec. only there I will post a picture. have not been back to the derm yet giving a trial of hydro cortizone a shot so far no better and it has been 4 days. I don't know that I have seb dermatitis. I know it is a dermatitis though. red enflamed flaking some white heads. how do you deal with the redness and make up...mine looks horrid so that I use make up to cover it. my nose has been red for the past year and a half, white heads then just bumps and redness.I don't have any out break on my scalp. Do you suggest using baking soda on my face to wash my make up off? The serava worked well but did not clean out my pores on the rest of my face which is oily so I use phiso derm which is irritating my left cheek. sigh I look disfigured and worse now then when this photo was taken. sigh

Hi bizi,

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your skin. Have you actually had a diagnosis as to what your condition is yet? Baking Soda is very good for a lot of skin conditions and I am glad to hear you have had some success with it, it is a completely natural product so no harsh chemicals/additives with it. It may be a fungal infection that you have, I'm not sure about using athletes foot powder on your face, it's best to read up on these things before attempting them.
