Hi Ceci,
haha... We are still here:) like a comming home forum.. I am still not feeling the best in my life to be onnest! but I am working on it.! wow that's sound nasty in the eye.. I have everymorning when I wake up the greep balls in the corner in my eye..
Be carefull with the eyes. there is certainly something wrong with our body's we must find the culprit because our body is out of balance in the long run it will only hurt!
The best thing for my hair was and is selenium sulfide shampo mixed with a little ACV. than you don't have to switch all the time.. I tried all the oils you mentioned and they didn't work as I wanted. Or just using the H&S seborrheic dermatitis each day will not give problems as well. So my scalp is all the time ok.. but my face still isn't perfect.. I did try the sulfur soap for a long time 4 weeks.. and still got the tiny rashes than I did put the sheabutter on it but didn't had the sulfer powder for the mix.. The results were already good but now I try it again with the powder.. Did you have the 100% result no rashes also without using the sheabutter sulphur powder mix afterwards? Cause I am trying now with the sulpur powder sheabutter too.. without I still got tiny rash..
The sheabutter gives me at the end of the day a sweaty look! but it helps..
This question is only for the woman including you:)
When do you experience more sd in the monthly cycle>?
This question is for everyone!!!
Did you experience already for the SD started a lot of oil comming of your scalp and face..
Was it first only in the front part of the head and later the nose area or did the oil came on all parts in one time>?

I believe my rash was gone before I started using the shea butter. My rash could have been from SLS or SLES which I avoid now. Make sure to spritz your face with water before using the shea butter. Also use a very small amount. I use smaller than a green pea sized for both face and neck. I rub it in my hands first and then pat it on face/neck.
I haven't experienced any SD except when I had a cold (flu-like symptoms). I guess my immune system was low and my face reacted with SD flare ups. And now the blepharitis. No SD during my monthly. And now usually no cysts either (I think I had maybe one cyst in the last 3-4 months).
Also you should check out makeupalley. There's quite a few people that have SD on there. They might have some more tips for you.
I did a little research and licorice root might help control sebum production. I also take borage oil (internally) as it's suppose to help with SD, skin and hair. I tried to use borage oil on my face and in my hair (I have softgel caps which I opened) but my family was disgusted by the smell and said I smelled like wet dog (and the smell lingers for days). LOL I also like fuller's earth clay (multani mitti) to help with oily skin.
I really don't remember any changes in my skin when I got SD (it has been over 20 years) but I always had an oily t-zone.
Hi Ceci,
That's a interesting site you mentioned! Thank your!. I am going to have a look when I have time.. many things on it. and very precisely.
I used some supplements in the past as well for controlling sebum etc. But I am working out a diet now just trying like a lot of people who have SD. I want to get rid of it cause there are many things out of balance in my body. I got now also the results of the other test mentioned below.
Epstein-Barr NA IgG ------ ------ ------ ------ 159 - 0 - 20
Escherichia coli ------ ------ ------ 0.10 ------ Ig 1.00 - 10.00
Enterococcus sp. ------ ------ ------ 0.01 ------ Ig 1.00 - 10.00
Enterobacteriaceae groep 2 ------ ------ ------ 100 ------ - < 10
Bifidobacterium species ------ ------ ------ 0.01 ------ ng 1.00 - 100.00
Bacteriodes species ------ ------ ------ 0.01 ------ ng 1.00 - 100.00
Lactobacillus species ------ ------ ------ <0.01 ------ Ig 0.10 - 10.00
beta-Defensin 2 ------ ------ ------ 69.8 ------ ng/ml 0.0 - 23.0
I-Aminoadipinezuur 125 ------ Imol/24u 9 - 51
1-Methylhistidine 1009 ------ Imol/24u 128 - 392
Glutaminezuurlactam 8.61 ------ mmol/mcr 20.00 - 115.00
But before using the sulphur soap, do you remember any differences in level during your monthly cycle? If you don't have rashes before why using the sheabutter and sulfur powder after washing?
Have a great day!

Hi,
I don't recall any correlations between my time of the month and SD. I use sulfur and shea butter to keep the symptoms (flakes and itching) of SD and acne from coming.

Does anyone know if their SD is flared by food? I was drinking a vitamin water today, and noticed 10 minutes later that I started getting SD blotches all over my face (my SD had pretty much been completely gone before).
Stomach felt really bad, as well. I figure I'm allergic to one of the ingredients in it. I'm gonna try to systematically go through and find which one it is.
Anyone know if there's a link between food allergies and SD?
sidra,
some people have flares from food allergies. i recently had a food and environmental allergy test and came up negative to everything which as surprising because i'm vegan.
today i flared up really red down the creases by my nose and around it. i happened to be looking in the mirror at the time and have no clue what caused the flare. a minute later the redness was barely visible. this happens to me a lot and i don't know why. best guess is something is being released through the oily (vulnerable) areas of my face aggravating the malassezia.
Hi Joellie,
The sulfur powder I use in my shea butter mix for my face and also in my shampoo. Keeps SD symptoms away. The African Black soap I use because it is mild and natural and doesn't aggravate my SD or cause pimples/acne. The black soap is very moisturizing and cleansing for me. I like to use more than one kind of face cleanser and shampoo so that my skin/scalp does not become use to the products and thus lose its effects.

Hi Joellie,
No, I don't know that commercial. My full name is Cecilia (Ceci for short).
I don't really have a regimen. I just try not to use the same soap day after day. So, if I use the sulfur soap today, I will use the African black soap tomorrow. The main thing is I try to stick to more natural products.
Hi Ceci (Cecilia),
Sounds ok! Ceci.. You are right about the natural products!
One thing is important to me.. Does in your opinion the african black soap also contributes to the success of no rash..?
Do you also apply the sheabutter moisturiser with the s. powder after the afr.bl soap?
If so please let me know which one you have.. I have seen more manufactures of this soap.
I have to say:) thanks again.

A little update. I keep using a 50/50 Green Tea (or White Tea)/White vinegar solution twice a week on my hair and face and it has been working since I first started using it in April 2009.
Recently, I started eating also better and that has helped as well.
I've read about coconut oil taking care permanently about scalp seborrheic dermatitis and I will try it as soon as I buy a shower cap.

Hi Sebastian,
Do you never have any rash on your face anymore, or white plaque immediately after applying...? How do you clean and with what for the rest of the week your face?
thanks
Everything is gone. Sometimes, if I'm lazy and don't apply the treatment as often as I should, there's buildup and the next time when I apply the solution, there's some (clean) redness in the spots where the buildup used to be. The redness disappears within one-two days and then it's like I didn't have Seborrheic Dermatitis (SD) at all.
I don't use anything else, I don't even wash my face daily. I simply use a 50/50 Green Tea (or White Tea)/White vinegar solution about twice a week on average.Though I can also go about doing it only once or even three times a week, depending on the weather, stress levels, diet, etc.
I tried the same method with Apple Cider Vinegar a while ago and from time to time when I finish up the White vinegar, however the effects are not the same. In my case, White vinegar works much better than Apple Cider Vinegar.
Sounds oke.
A while ago I tried the ACV treatment and for a short time white vinegar for llike 2 weeks. I did look ok but after the success went downhill.
What brand of white vinegar do u use and which brand of tea? and if you wash your face with what do you wash it besides skipping a day or treatment? Did you had it also on your chin? I was never able to get rid of the redness there competely.
can u tell a little about how strong the tea water must be.. and how the treatment goes..
thanks mate.

I let the tea brew enough so the water becomes as dark as possible, which is at least 5-10 minutes - though I sometimes forget about this and let it steep for up to 12 hours! Moreover, I usually let it steep in room temperature water, mainly because it's more convenient. In addition to the fact that White vinegar works for me, I also realized that the best ratio of tea to vinegar is somewhere close to 50/50 or 60/40. Meaning, although it seems counter intuitive, if I put more vinegar than I should, the effects are less desirable. I suspect that the vinegar has to have a certain dilution in order to work since I even tried to replace the tea with water and it also works, although not nearly as effective as the tea. For instance, an 80% vinegar solution has little effect while a 100% vinegar solution is slightly above useless.
I repeat, I don't even wash my face with soap or anything on a regular basis. I just use Cetaphil for oily skin to wash my body and face when I'm in the shower But whether I use Cetaphil or not, it doesn't make much difference for the face (it could slightly help the scalp, but I am not really certain). In my last post, I forgot to mention that I don't even use an anti dandruff shampoo. I simply alternate between a natural shampoo and Cetaphil for my hair.
I "have" seborrheic dermatitis on: scalp, forehead, temples, crown, sideburns, nose, mustache area, lower lip, sides of the mouth, a few spots on the chin, area between eyes. I used to have it in the axilla region as well, but it has disappeared (I believe this is another story).
I use the cheapest White vinegar I can usually find (the current one is called Allen's) and different types of Green/White tea, albeit I mainly use organic Green tea. However, the brand has never made a difference for both the tea and vinegar.
As for how I apply the vinegar, I tried several combinations in order to maximize efficiency and save time. The one I'm currently doing involves using a spray bottle on my head before shower. The solutions then drips on my face and I simply massage my face and concerned areas. I usually let it stay for about 5 minutes. Then, I take my shower and use the soap and shampoo. After this, I stop, dry myself and apply the spray bottle again. This time, I let it sit for 10-12 minutes, I usually shave or brush my teeth in the meanwhile to save time. Consequently, I resume the shower and simply let the water wash the vinegar. This lasts 50-60 minutes (though one could possibly shorten the time). I prefer spending two hours (twice a week) per week doing this than wasting time with other procedures.
When I started using this method about 10 months ago, I was so desperate and disappointed with prescription drugs that for five consecutive days I applied the tea/vinegar solution and let it sit for the entire night as I slept, then washing it in the morning. Let me tell you that I was never as flake free before as I was after those five days. I mean, I would wake up in the morning and could not even see one single, tiny flake on my dark Blue pillow. That was really something for me. One caveat, sometimes, after applying the tea/vinegar solution after a while I had not, I see some flakes in the morning. These are probably the dead skin falling. Consecutive nights are better.
Finally, diet plays also a certain role. But, I'll write about that in another post. Suffice to say that after making yet another change in my diet plan at the beginning of the year, I now hove to usually apply the tea/vinegar solution only once a week. This is remarkable considering that it's still Winter here in Canada.
Hi Sebatian,
thanks for your comment! very interesing .. What will be a good ratio of repeatment of treatment if I have a not so good diet and dont want to see any flakes on the pillow or face..
Is that possible anyway?
You didn't got resistent after almost a year.. I got resistent of the ACV after a few weeks..
but this seems to work differently.. perfect please post your diet..
I am currently also working with the sulphur soap of CECI.. so I will try soon this application of yours.. or combinate.. probably next week!
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to chime in really quickly here. I have pretty bad seb derm, but Protopic really helps me. It kills the seb derm pretty fast, but it's really greasy and thick and clogs pores, so it's a trade-off.
Also, I'm not trying to advertise the site or anything, but there's a lot of people with sd at
They have a sub-board for it and a lot of treatment information. You guys might want to check it out and post over there, a lot of rosacea sufferers (such as myself) have SD as well, so they're pretty well versed on it.
