hello all, has anyone tried Isypropyl Alcohol for their SD? i read in another forum (topix) some people used it and said it cleared in one-2 days, im considering giving it a shot since i've been using selsun blue and it has helped some but not completely.
Way too drying. Sounds like potentially more skin problems.
So I got seborrheic dermatitis after being on Medication for crohn's for like 2 years(Antibiotics/sterioids etc)....Went to doctor and guess what yes he put me on a steroid cream which I abused for like a year(Terrible idea I r stupid)Weakened my skin made stuff worse in the end.
So my thoughts On the disease or my experiences
Cold weather makes it really bad my recent trip to New York it flared up pretty badly But I was able to control it with sulphur soap and honey.
When I went to St Tropez It completely went after 3 days the sun and hot weather pretty much wiped it out...couple of weeks later when i came home to the cold weather of the uk it came back and with vengeance!(This was before I discovered Sulphur soap)Would love to know scientifically why the sun kills it.
What works for me Well ,Sulphur Soap seems to really keep the symptoms down that and This may be controversial But stress and worry always makes it worse for me so if you can learn to relax and chill out stuff will improve this is probably the hardest of things to do...
Honey masks every so often work well just be aware you may break out if you have spots or acne I got quite a few spots the following day but honeys definitely great.
Now this is probably going to be the most important thing I say Steroid creams may work in the short team but in the long term they just make your condition worse....The creams weaken your skin and increase redness, also if you can try to read this thread there are some great posts in it with alternatives to steroids.(Special shoutout to shipinabottle and Italianboy )
other thoughts beer sugar and general candida type stuff always seems to make my condition worse so when i drink its hard alcohol Vodka etc...
Currently On lots of vitamins as well and this past week have started a strict Anti candida diet which is not for the faint hearted...But I think the holistic way will get rid of this on a more permanent basis
.Also applying a Acv/green tea mixture every night and morning & once a week I do a honey/greentea/acv/sugar facemask I'm definitely getting die off effects right now because I have quite a few spots but I'm just working threw it.
Would just like to add I currently have about 5 percent Seborrheic Dermatitis I just seem to have dry skin which is really not a big deal I think its the Honey and sulphur and acv and staying calm!
Its a horrible disease and unfortunately doctors Think the quick cure is a steroid cream,I've felt really low and depressed when I've had it bad I have literally been in tears thinking the world should end or a great big hole should swallow me up,you just gotta stay strong and positive and work out what treatment works for you and stick to it.(Sorry to preach)
If Anyone has any questions ask away.
So has anyone here had success with an anti candida diet? I see lots of people saying they started one and are breaking out but so far not one is saying yes it works great. My tongue has been yellow since i was about 18 (now 28) and this is why I'm thinking about doing this.
It makes a lot of sense so I did some research, if you ever want to be confused type in candida in google. Everyone makes a solution for it and everyone says that their solution is the best and everyone else argues that the solutions dont work so here i am confused. What has been your guys experience?
I see early on in this post people were using pro biotics, have you guys continued the use of them? How have you been doing lately?
@Sd I've only been on the diet a couple of days so its far too soon to say....It's incredibly difficult though and anyone that says it is not is clearly not doing it right.
Incredibly restrictive in terms of what you can eat more or less you have to cook everything and you will feel quite low on energy as your body adjusts as its the withdrawal symptoms from all the bad stuff sugars etc.
I really am confident that even if it does not cure Sd it will make me feel and look better I like you have that Tongue thing That's all the yeast growing you just have to think really why would it not all be connected.
Also I'm on probiotics and yeah I have pretty much 0 Sd right now but its too hard to pinpoint what's stopping it because I'm doing a lot of things.Sulphur soap/honey/Acv/exercise/Anti Candida diet/relaxation..and numerous vitamins but thats what general well being anyway.
Anyway I'll keep everyone updated because its very cold in the Uk at the moment and cold weather normally inflames it but so far it has not
I'm 99.1 percent sure natural is the way to deal with this!
I think you must bring more on than just only the anti candia diet... I did it for one year very strictly. As many I didn't got the results.. But I did a lab test lately at metametrix based on DNA. and as it said there was a yeast in a high concentration. It wasn't a candida yeast.. cause I was already checked out in some other labs as well. So this unkown yeast can survive the diet I might think.. I think it's really important to bring in some extra yeast killers along with the diet. They couldn't identify the yeast unfortunately.
People who try the paleo diet... looks like the anti candida diet for a great part have a huge relief in seborrheic dermatitis.
In the tests they told me also the following thing that my Progestosteron and Estradiol are way to high. This explanes my brain fog, lack in concentration emotion flat thinking etc. Also I have got a bad sleeping periods.
Now I know this item I want to come back on the posts I posted before on the forum about the woman who where on and off birth control pills.
Hormonal Swings - Just prior to the menstrual cycle begins and during pregnancy, Progesterone levels are high. This also triggers high levels of DHT, which stimulates the production of sebum and may trigger a flare of seborrhea
Elevated levels of progesterone stimulate sebaceous glands and increase sebum production. This can potentially trigger a flare up of seborrhea and eventually to seborrheic dermatitis.
Since progesterone in males is produced during production of testosterone and by ovaries in women, elevated progesterone level can trigger seborrheic dermatitis.

* (Estrogen/ progesterone imbalances increase Candida's tendency to attach to the cells lining the vagina, and therefore both pregnancy and oral contraceptives can increase one's risk. Oral contraceptives containing 75-150 micrograms of estrogen are most likely to cause the problem; low-dose products are seldom implicated.)

Effect of candida on the endocrine system
Once candida has overgrown, it can bind to hormones changing their ;key' shape so they are unable to fit 'lock' in their receptor. This effectively inactivates the circulating hormone, making all endocrine problems ten times worse.
[Edited link out]
This is the other side of the story...
Any imbalance between estrogen and another hormone namely progesterone could lead to causing Candida. This leads to have a negative effect on the friendly and protective bacteria. As a result the Candida tends to overgrow. Thus both of these hormones, whether in excess or not in balance with each other, will have a direct effect on causing of Candida to thrive and destroying the protective friendly bacteria.
Hello,
I'm new to this thread, but there's a few questions I have to ask about SD.
I've recently had an awful breakout and am in the midst of a slow recovery, but as I was reading the post above I have to relate that flare ups definately seem to happen around that time of month, does this happen to all the women with SD?
I'm currently using Micatin around my nose to help kill any fungus, and although it's been very slow in progress, I think it's working to a degree. I also use ACV in the morning and in the evening to aid in the fungus battle, and finally I use coal tar soap in the shower. I believe it's helped with some of the little blisters that come up but the redness is still quite severe.
I've tried cortisone and it worked miricles! But, alas it was only until a month later that it came back even worse. From these steroid stories I've heard and sometimes even experienced I think it's safe to say that one should stay clear of any cortisone creams, I'm sure it only leads to worse things.
I know that everyone has different skin but does anyone have any advice? I heard through the grapevine that peroxide after a weeks use will fix up SD! But somehow I could see this going well, or very disasterous. I've had this for 3 years now, and am turning 18 in a few months.
How could I balance my hormones?
"Ship in a bottle" - does finacea keep the redness at ease and the SD at bay? Have you ever built a tolerance to it to the point where it doesn't work anymore?
Does Head and Shoulders really work when you apply it to your face? Or can it cause a worse reaction in some cases?
Has anyone here tried Champori products from online?
Does B vitamin deficiency cause SD?
Someone once said Jojoba oil cured their problem? Has anyone had experience with that?
Sorry, so many questions I know, but I hope maybe some of you can shed some light on this for me.
-With love,
Melanie

Have you tried sulfur? Sulfur has worked wonders for me and it's inexpensive.
A lot have found relief from ketaconazole or pyrithione zinc.
I would stay away from the hydrogen peroxide. It ruins the skin (I forget exactly how).
Also, avoid SLS and SLES as they can aggravate SD.
I think perhaps I'll try a different approach to the situation, not a new one by any means, but a natural one. Today I saw my naturalpath who prescribed me some regular high vitamin D, along with a B complex. In addition he suggested tea tree oil mixed with coconut oil as a moisturizer. He also suggested that I use an Avacodo as a mask to help sooth any irritation.
Funny enough, on my way home, I came accross a soap shop to ask about "Black African Soap" which is supposed to do wonders for SD, and the lady who owned the place suffered from SD as well! She said as she got older it became more settled down, and it only seems to make a return during times of stress, aka, exam time. Well, she said I should stay away from sulfers, and rely on Shea Butter and a goats milk soap. But I don't know if this will eliminate the probem or not. I'm sure it will moisturize, but will it reduce inflammation and redness.
Has anyone successfully reduced the redness of SD?
Does anyone know how to stop it from spreading to another area of the face?
Has anyone healed this naturally?
I'm going to be on a fairly strict vegan/gluten free/wheat free/ diet, and incorporate a lot of raw foods and cut out most if not all sugars that are not derived from fruit. I'll be taking supplements for my adrenal glands (which are a big factor in the immune system!) and will be taking alfalfa supplements along with a few other selections. I'm going to discontinue anything unnatural and keep you all informed on the progress!
Still if anyone reads my previous post on page 17 I'd love to hear what has worked long term for everyone and what has not.

where can you get the sulfacetemide and sulfur products in the uk and by what names?
The sodium sulfacetamide 10% and sulfur 5% is a prescription you can get from your dermatologist.
You should also be able to find sulfur products (soaps, mask, maybe lotion) over the counter. But you can definitely find them online. I use a sulfur soap called Dr. Joesoef's 10% sulfur soap (you can google it) that's sold online. There are also other sulfur soaps like Grandpa's Thylox which is 3% sulfur. Coral Kavi is a 10% soap sold online. Adult Acnomel is a 10% sulfur lotion. Queen Helene mint julep mask has sulfur in it. DDF therapeutic sulfur mask.
In the UK I think they spell sulfur "sulphur" but it's the same thing.

I've heard about increasing b-complex vitamins. Also heard good things about borage oil and evening primrose oil. I tried the coconut oil on my face but it aggravated my SD. Also aloe vera gel (the edible kind) is great to put on topically. I also use a sulfur soap or pure African black soap and moisturize with unrefined shea butter. So far so good.
I have actually had good success with znp bar
I was using it in the summer/towards the end
then my dad put it in the garbage when it got really small and i never got around to ordering again and then my seb derm flared really badly
so i recently ordered it again
it controlled it really well to me and its the only thing i can use for my hair that does not irritate it/and my face
i have used dandruff shampoos and they all irritate me and my face and all the time it seems, the morning after i would have bumps on my forehead, that t-gel coal tar shampoo was the WORSE!! my dandruff was way worse and it gave me bad acne
My plan is to just use the znp bar on my face/hair and a gentle shampoo like dove (head and shoulders made my scalp worse too)
I also find when my hair is shorter i have less dandruff, obvious reasons most likely
and for guys my hairdresser said to use clay for your hair and not gel ( or other products) because they give dandruff and clay will not,so thats something to think about and I recently bought a clay product for your hair.
znp bar seems to clear up my forehead really well too
....well i went to the docs and is doesnt look like they have a sulfacetamide 10%, sulfer 5% face wash for prescription, or anything with the sulfur and sulfacetamide....in fact he looked clueless on what it was which is worrying.
I actually got him to look on google to beleive me, which he then agreed but couldnt find anything on prescription with it?? Anyway, he suggested metrogel to me instead (is that any good?), but said he would ring the derm and say what she feels is best.
So is this sulfacetamide 10% and sulfer 5% only in the US and not available in the uk?
Anyone from the uk on here who have used this however could you please tell me how to obtained it.
Thanks.
I have a question for everyone. . .
Has your Seborrheic Dermatitis spread as the years have gone by?
In only a month after discontinueing the Cortisone (which made matters worse) my SD seems to have spread. I found a few small patches by my temple and on the chest area. I won't lie, I'm really quite worried about this and was wondering if anyone had any advice?
Has your SD ever gone away completely or settled down for a year? Does the severity of your problem change time to time?
Has anyone ever beat the problem by not worrying about it? Seeing how emotional moments cause the SD to flare up, does it not make sense that if one ignored the problem the body would heal better? Although I'm aware it would be difficult, especially with it being on the face. . .
Yours concerned. . .
Melanie
it is incredible but after years to prove different medecines, the perfect solution for my seborreica dermatitis was, to every day wash the face to me with shampoo that use for my hair. HEAD AND SHOULDERS SHAMPOO.
Great! how much time did you need for complete relief till the last rash was gone>
Head & Shoulders has many kinds. which do you use>
thanks!
@Sd I've only been on the diet a couple of days so its far too soon to say....It's incredibly difficult though and anyone that says it is not is clearly not doing it right.
Hey TheoAsa23,
I think it is the only way to get out of this condition. I did sent all my labwork and all reports to a more specialists. One of them has got it specialism in the intestinal track.
I think I try the diet as well again. Can you tell me which supplements you are on>? Cause the last time I went on that diet my SD seemed to get more worse in time. Maybe we can exchange also some food receipts.. Did you have any thoughts of not losing weight>?
thanks
@ Hi Ceci...
Long time no contact:) Anyways good to speak to you again..
Did you have the 100% result no rashes also without using the sheabutter sulphur powder mix afterwards? Cause I am trying now with the sulpur powder sheabutter too.. without I still got tiny rash..
@Hi Melanie!
Try the thing of the sulphur soap. The plan of CeCi. buy the sulpur soap with the sheabutter and sulpur powder for putting that afterwards on your face. You can find it back in the posts of Ceci which one it is. Thanks for telling that you have experience SD in combination with your monthly cycle.
About the hormonal track.. first read a lot get more info.. There are many items of yeast related things in correlation with the intestinal track.. straight or via the andrenal glands.
I do not know stopping the spreading. I think just washing will be the best way. And with drying keep the towel away from uneffected areas.. Change your pillow regular.. But maybe this is also hormonal related..

Hi Joellie,
Good to speak to you again also.
I'm still doing o.k. on my face and scalp. Now I have blepharitis (it's SD in my eye) which comes maybe twice a year. I've been working on that. It's been a pain in the eye. LOL I've been washing it with vinegar, tea tree oil and water and putting castor oil afterwards. It has calmed down considerably but still hasn't gone away. I also use aloe vera gel when it gets really itchy. Hopefully it calms down and goes away on its own.
I've also discovered that neem oil is good for SD. So, I've made my own shampoo with neem oil, tea tree oil and sulfur. I have about three different shampoos that I like to rotate so I don't get used to any of them or they will stop working. So far, so good.
How are you doing?
