Mmm...next derm checkup you have ask him to look at it. Also, I've had dry scalp skin too this whole time I've been on Accutane but since I started washing my hair every other day with a dry hair shampoo it has made a huge difference.

I tried sebclair for 6 weeks and it did not do anything. It's made ONLY for mild SD. I thought it would work on my moderate one, but oh well.

does anyone live in an area with extreme weather fluctuation throughout the year like the mid-west or east coast?

i visited los angeles and san francisco a couple months ago which has about the same weather year round and didn't notice any flair-ups. i was eating/drinking a lot of stuff that your not supposed to with sd and i usually do not. i basically just lived as if i didn't have sd. like i dd when i lived in sf. anyone in la or sf have sd?

after only being back a few weeks, as i mentioned above, my cheeks are now very rough in texture and the folds of my nose are worst than ever. not sure if my skin is overworking itself to stay moist to fight the blistering cold and winds or what. anyone in new york/similar climate have sd and how does it effect you throughout the year?

i do believe winter makes the skin worst. when i go somewhere warm the sd symptoms seem to go away.

i would still like to hear if anyone in california has sd, what part they live in and when the symptoms seem to be worst.

I live in Cali and developed SD 2 months ago on the forehead. Never EVER had it and then boom, start of November i get 3 tiny bumps forming on a forehead that use to be smooth and clear. 2 months later to now, the 3 bumps have spread upwards towards the scalp and above the eybrows. I get tiny reddish bumps that won't seem to go away or if they did, new ones would form. i still have it and it pains me to see it everyday. What has become of my forehead!?!?!?

Winter has been particularly dry and cold this year so i'm hoping once it warms up again, it will go into remission. I really feel for the many that i read that have struggled with this as these past 2 months have been frustrating to say the least. Each day is now a struggle and the mirror has become my worse nightmare.........

Questions for girls that have seb derm? As previous posts I have stated my daughter has seb derm at the age of 11(she's now 12) we have had sucess with the scalp not much with the ear and skin. She has no acne problems, just this seb derm.

anyway back to my question? Have any of you noticed hairloss in conjuction with seb derm, or the shampoo you use to treat the seb derm in the scalp. I noticed in the last year her hair looks thinner? Just curious.

thanks.

Yes, I did, but I'm not a girl. I would lose 100+ hair when I washed my hair. I believe it's because of the inflammation because since I started Accutane I only lose 2/3 hair when I wash them.

Also, what kind of shampoo are you using Mrs., I suppose Ketoconazole (Nizoral - Triatop)?

Thanks, I wondered if this was causing her hairloss. They said to use it even though her head cleared up nicely as a maintance regimen. Such as once or twice a week. I guess I will just have her use the selson blue and only the nizoral if comes back and see if this helps.

Can seb derm appear anywhere? Around the time the seb derm appeared in ear something similar appeared on her forearm. It doesn't itch. They have given cream after cream and it turns red, then looks like it is going away, but never completly goes away, then once topicals are discontinued it comes back even more or spreads. they tried to say eczema, but it doesn't itch or look like that. They really don't know and said seb derm wouldn't be on the arm..???any clues.

Hey there. I managed to find a picture (taken from a dermatologist's site, reliable) of the areas where SD can appear.

I've it: head, nose, forehead only at times (wonder why :\), armpit (sometimes too, first time I noticed I thought it was sweat...don't confuse it, it's white).

I heard the chest and back areas are the worst for itching.

Keep her away from stress (terrible trigger).

I just found out today that I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp. I've had some weird spots for a while now but I didn't think anything about it. Does anyone know if Scalpicin works well?

Scalpicin didn't work for me. Try a sulfur or zinc prythione shampoo. Also, try to avoid SLS & SLES. I've had great results from using sulfur.

geyser, do you live in northern or southern ca. and do you get sunshine on a daily basis?

i've literally tried every single crazy thing people have suggested to clear my condition and nothing has completely worked (only gotten slightly better).

i'm starting to think that mine is mainly climate induced (we all know we usually get better in summer) and because i don't get much sunshine, which allows the skin yeast to overgrow. when i lived back in ca, even foggy sf, i used to get sun daily. now that i live in nyc, i work ridiculous hours sitting on a computer that don't allow me to get any, that and it's winter.

i just got back from nebraska and it was winter there too. even though i didn't go outside much, my parents light the house during the day by allowing natural sunlight to come through the windows. i seriously think even that helped suppress my symptoms because when i was back my sd was barely noticeable after a couple days and i have really bad sd redness/rashing around my nose and cheeks. so my suggestion to sufferers who may not get outside much is to at least let sunlight come in their home during the daytime when your there, as much as possible.

on a side note, i was in la a couple months ago and again my symptoms almost went away completely after a couple days. i didn't have to use any lotions, wasn't taking my vitamins, didn't have to cover-up my redness with makeup and ate and drank WHATEVER i wanted. the only thing i stayed away from was sugar and dairy/meat because i'm vegan. believe me there's a lot more that i have tried to avoid, like going on the candida diet.

so if nothing else is working for you, try vacationing somewhere sunny for a week and see how your symptoms are doing at weeks end. if it makes them bare able like me, reconsider how much sun you are getting daily. that just might be the key.

hell yes. i can be clear for weeks, but as soon as something bad happens i feel my face get hot and itchy and by the end of the day the SD patches are back in full force :(

Would clenia face wash be good for sd?

It contains sodium sulfacetamide 10% and sulfur 5% as its main ingredients.

Its says that sodium sulfacetamide is an antibacteria agent and interfers with the growth of bacteria on the skin and sulfur also helping to inibit growth of bacteria on skin.

It says its helpful with acne, rosacia and sb - but then again it would!.........but actually seeing other peoples reviews on various websites it seems to be quite good apparently.

Would this be any good to use then?

Plus anybody use it with success for the redness?

This should work quite well. I've never used the brand Clenia but I did use a sodium sulfacetamide 10% and sulfur 5% face wash with great results. I used this for acne and SD. I don't remember any redness at the time so it might have helped with that or I just didn't have any redness. I would definitely recommend trying this if you can get it.

(Sorry if this posted twice, I was having trouble posting.)

I've never tried it (they don't sell it here) but my derms always suggested me to use a very gentle cleanser or alternatively just lukewarm water.

just went to the derm again since my symptoms we're getting worst and was prescribed a few things i thought i'd share. the derm didn't think my symptoms we're anything out of ordinary, so that makes me feel good that this treatment will help.

here's my new treatment plan:

morning:

wash cafe with cerave, pat dry

apply finacea

apply locoid lipocream (optional)

night:

wash cafe with cerave, pat dry

apply finacea

take one doryx (will need to take for 3 months most likely)

has anyone tried any of these treatments?

locoid cream is a steroid.. and steroids on ur face are bad bad bad in the long run. At first it may seem like its doing its job but after awhile it can damage your skin. You may want to use it for a week and try it out. Usually steroids are a problem on the face when you use them constantly for months. sometimes they give you antibiotics for secondary seb derm infections.. but i see no reason why it would help seb derm (thought to be caused by yeast) by using antibiotics (kill bacteria, making yeast flourish)

i believe i have an infection which is why all my efforts have failed. i have done around 6 cleanses and am doing another now. i can tell it is working because i'm breaking out which tells me there is an internal infection that i have thus been able to heal. hopefully the dorxy will eradicate the infection.

i have avoided other steroid creams after i found out the side effects, so i will do the same with this one. if only i could find something strong enough to stop the redness that wasn't a steroid.

it doesnt work for everyone though. there are a few other shampoos you should cycle with h&s every few weeks.
