Hi, i am a 21 years old girl. i had serve cystic acne a few years ago. i did get some creams from the doctor and it went away but then it came back. last year was the worst, this year i finally went to another doctor for medication and i am using it now.
i have realised that using the mac studio fix powder foundation makes my skin worse even if i just wear it for a day. anybody has an recommendations for a foundation for oily dry skin cystic acne? my skin is oily and dry right now because of the medication.
i have heard bare minerals is great but i am not sure if the original is better than the matte since i have heard that the matte one has some chemical in it that may cause breakouts. i was also wondering about the coverage since i have dark spots on my face. i am a mac nc45. thank you so much !
Maybelline Fit me matte foundation, almay clear complexion blemishheal liquid makeup, neutrogena skinclearing oil-free makeup are all good foundations. I'm acne prone too and when I used MAC, it made me have even more acne till I stopped. I don't think mac is good at all for acne prone skin.
No makeup is the best makeup for acne, but that is rarely possible. So, if you really want to use makeup then please avoid pasty and pressed makeup as it sometimes can worsen acne. Try loose mineral makeup instead (e.g. bareMinerals) and leave it on the face for the shortest possible time. Unfortunately what works for someone else may not work for you, so some trial-and-error phase is sometimes unavoidable. i.e. you will have to figure it out for yourself since the above is just a general guidance.
I wish you all the best and let's keep fighting acne together!
Vise
Agreed with Vise...no makeup is the best makeup for acne! Making the decision to go makeup-less during my treatment was a tough decision but my acne healed so much faster!! Looks like Bare Minerals is a good acne-friendly choice, though. Good luck with whatever you decide!!
I went through this exact issue. I had dry patchy skin when taking doxy tablets and tretinoin for the longest time so I went to sephora and got the Kat Von D Tattoo foundation. I was lured with the 21% pigment (which is really high for a foundation) and the promise of covering up the mess that was my face! Oh man it looked so bad! It settled into my dry patches and made everything worse, I was flaking like crazy! I went back and got the Make Up Forever Ultra HD foundation and this is the best foundation I have ever used. It's much more liquidy than the KVD foundation and I think that's why it glides over dry patches rather than settling into them. It's incredible!! It's a dewy-matte finish so it's going to give you a bit of a glow, and it's great because it provides full coverage but doesn't make you look like you're wearing a mask. They also say it's for all skin types and it worked for me and it might work for you! I would stay away from any kind of pressed powders just fyi. They don't work with dry patchy skin.
They have FORTY shades so you will definitely find your shade! It's $43 so that may be a drawback for you, but keep in mind that one pump is enough for the whole face so it will last you a while. Good luck!
