Believe it or not I used to be a member here about 25 years ago complaining about my cystic acne and how I did not want to live anymore. I can't say it gets easier, but you learn throughout the years how to live with it. I abandoned all medication for years and did not even use soap on my face just iso alcohol after a shower with a cotton swab. I since decided to try a derm again 6 weeks ago after a bad break out and started using cerave SA cleanser and PM moisturizer followed by retininoin. I feel like I went through a bad purge and then it started to calm down right before my next visit a few weeks ago but she said my skin still looked oily and tested me for demodex mites which she said I had and prescribed me ivermectin cream and ketokazole. The derm wants me doing all 6 things on my face now and i'm breaking out really bad now after day 4 with way more putsles then I usually got on a bad day. I just woke up and 6AM after applying all the steps yesterday evening and my skin is all greasy still from all the creams. I try not to apply so much but my skin gets so dry after I put the cleanser and cerave PM lotion on so then the other stuff is super hard to spread. Is this overkill? Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.
You should probably discuss your concerns with your dermatologist as we can't go against medical advice. However I can tell you what works for me:
Johnson's head-to-toe baby wash
Cerave AHA/BHA acne control gel
Dan's moisturiser
If I had cystic acne I might be inclined to use benzoyl peroxide instead of the AHA/BHA gel. BP is more powerful than acids but can be overdrying.
