Isotretinoin - Starting Month Three

I am currently on Isotretinoin for my acne which I am so sick of having. I am about to start college in a few months and have had acne since seventh grade. I finally decided to start Accutane. It's been a crazy adventure so far. My face has not been improving which is disappointing for me. I would think it would be improving at this point. One thing that concerns me is that my pharmacy keeps changing the type of Isotretinoin I am on. Is this normal?I started with 40 mg Myorisan. Then month two, I was changed to 80 mg Amnesteem. Month three is split between 40 mg Amnesteem and 40 mg Zenatane. Is this okay? I feel like my face was better when I was on Myorisan and it's gotten worse on Amnesteem. I have noticed a huge reduction in oil on my face and the acne on the rest of my body has almost cleared completely. But my face has not improved. I still get huge, painful, cystic acne and I am getting concerned. Also, until what month will my face start to clear? My dermatologist said that I will be on the medication for six months and I am starting month three. I just think it defeats the entire purpose of the medication/treatment if my face keeps breaking out 4-5 times per month and then goes away and the next month just repeats. I would honestly not mind if it was small breakouts, but they are the same cystic, painful, scarring ones from before I started treatment. I am so ashamed when I go out into the public because of my face and I try to avoid looking at anyone directly in the eyes or face.

What do you guys think about this? Please get back with feedback as soon as possible! I greatly appreciate any feedback from anyone! Thanks!

Peace out for now....

It sounds frustrating. Usually by month 3, yeah, you should be seeing noticeable improvements. But, the good news is you're seeing it on your body, so hopefully face will be next.

Also, if you're on isotretinoin, I believe you should be fine regardless of the brand. I am not a pharmacist, but my common sense tells me if you are on a reputable brand of a medication, it wouldn't matter if you went to another brand.

What did you derm say when you asked about:

  • Brands of isotretinoin
  • Delayed facial response

If you haven't asked them yet, definitely do ask. And let us know what he/she says.

Hey! It's been a while since I've been on. Sorry for delayed response. Honestly thought I wasn't going to get any responses.

But thanks for replying. To answer your question above, I'm too scared to ask my derm. I've wanted to ask if it's normal for my pharmacy to keep switching the type of accutane. Your reply of "it shouldn't matter" reassures me a lot. According to my derm, she always says that my face is getting better and better but I don't know if that is true. I'm now currently starting month four. 11 days in. And I've only had one breakout. I pray that I won't have any more this month. Again, thanks for the reply.
