Diane 35 -- I am sooooooooo lost.....

I'm on my 4th year of taking diane and i must say that my skin has been super great the past years~ some breakouts occassionally... but i've had way less oil production. i've had acne all over my forehead before I went onto the pill. I'm wanting to come off it because I came to realize that I couldn't take this pill forever... Although the doctors say that diane is safe to take as on a long term basis, I'm constantly feeling that I'm putting my health at risk...

I want to come off of it!! However............ I'm also super reluctant to come off it because I've read MANY previous diane users who have shared their stories of having MAJOR BREAKOUTS.... I really don't know what to do.... After the second year of taking this pill, I noticed my emotions went to a low level.... i rarely feel those lovey dovey emotions.... for example around guys~~ and i haven't fallen in love ever after being on this pill...! i'm blaming diane because i don't know what else to blame for this~ i didn't figure this out until a few months ago, which made me wanna come off it ever more. I feel horrible because I don't know who to go to for help... I fear the major breakout when i come off it...

So the billion dollar question is....... Do you know of anything I can do or take internally to help reduce the effects of the transitional phase? Can anyone direct me to any websites or sources which give advice for people quitting the pill? What exactly are causing the major breakouts? The offset hormones I believe...?? Will balancing hormones during the quitting stage work to relieve the side effects of stopping the pill?

PS>> for the people who stopped diane, how long did your major breakout last for?

PLEASE I NEED HELP BECAUSE I'VE STRUGGLED WITH THIS FOREVER........................

When I went off of diane, I had a fairly bad breakout.

Its unavoidable.

My doctor explained it, to be that when your body starts producing eggs again, it feels as though its at the beggining of puberty again, so your hormones will be going pretty crazy and youll break out for a month or so. [That was my doctors explanation for my post-diane breakout]

Hi everyone,

Tare_lemon, I was in the same position as yourself. I've been off Diane twice and both

times my acne started breaking out badly after about 5 months. The second time was

worse than the first. So, I decided to go back on it, only this time after 5 months of being

on it, my skin never improved at all. So I went to the derm and she put me on a

course of accutane which I'm 1 month in. I stopped the bcp when I started the accutane.

I'm 28yrs old, and I sincerely regret ever going on the bcp (I've been on Diane, Yasmin,

Femodene) as a contraceptive and as an acne treatment. I personally believe the longer

you're on it, and the more on and off's you have with it, it worsens your acne when

you eventually go off it.

While you're on it, your hormones are suppressed. I don't believe there has been enough

research to determine what this does exactly to your body functions, specifically your

hormones. But when you come off the bcp, your hormones are basically thrown into

the deep end and especially if you had acne before in your life even some mild

teenager acne, most get the acne with a vengeance when stopped.

When I went off the pill both times from the start of the breakout, it only got worse and

worse. I had no signs of it clearing or improving.

I unfortunately don't have anything positive to say about Diane or the bcp and I sincerely

hope you choose to go off it rather sooner than later.

As far as treatments go, the best thing to take would be herbal products.

Namely:- Don quai (regulates menses), vitex chasteberry agnus castus (regulates hormones),

siberian ginseng, black cohosh. These are the main herbal products available to assist

in regulating a woman's hormones and menses. I take a supplement wich has all

4 in them. It is said to take about 500mg of each a day or twice a day. Get yourself

a good multivitamin with EPO and iron in it and the above herbal capsules or tincture.

At least this will be a start.

My advice about your skin, see how you go on the vitamines and herbs, and if your acne

get's out of control, go see your derm and seriously consider a course of accutane.

Good luck.

I have come off of Diane twice, both times my skin just returned to it's previous state. But, I should mention that for me previous state is very nasty for me. Keep in mind that with any acne treatment (except accuatne) you will have to use it long term for maintenance, not just Diane 35. There is no cure for acne, just treatment and prevention.

Hey minxymech, i just read your commentary and unfortunately this was in 2006 and i guess you're not an active member anymore... but i will still try my luck - maybe you still read this.

you stopped taking diane 35 and you started a course of accutane, right? that's exactly what i want to do ... but i am very scared of the hairloss to be honest. did you stop the one thing and start with the other on the same day? or was there some time inbetween? and did the acne come back after your accutane? please help me, thank you!

mhgm93, as a side note if you plan to go on accutane after stopping the pill, you willeither have to or be stronglyurged by your doctor to stay on birth control as part of the ipledge program. So you may as well stay on diane 35 during your course if you decide to take tane.

i already talked to my doc about that and since i just broke up with my bf i will not be sexually active. and if, in case i do want to be sex. active again i will take a pill that is not anti-androgenic and is not such a dangerous pill as diane 35. if i used diane 35 during accutane i would not realize any changes whatsoever... also if i first finished the accutane course and THEN stop taking diane 35, I'm pretty sure I wouldbreak out really badly...
