I've had acne for about 5 years now, my doctor tells me on a scale of 1 to 10 my acne is about a 6. I've tried oxytetracycline and some other antibiiotics but after some success at the start the acne has still persisted. recently i've been put on tetralysal. If anything this has made the acne much worse, the worst i've ever had it. Just wondered if anyone has had similar experiences with tetralysal making it worse, or whether this is a sign of the drug flushing out all the bacteria? cheers jon

hey jon,
I know my reply is a bit late (only 10 months), but I hope you're doing alright. Are you still taking tetralysal?
I've been taking it for 3 weeks now. I started off with 150 mg tablet a day for the first two weeks. I noticed my breakouts increased, so I called up my doctor and he bumped it up to 300 mg a day (i.e. 2 tables of 150 mg a day). Since then, I feel like my breakouts are now contained. what dosage are you taking?
Note: I also use Duac topical during the day and, recently, I started applying it a night (instead of retin-A). I'm kind of trying to follow a pseudo version of Dan's regime with my Duac cream (1% clindamycin and 5% bp) until I receive Dan's BP in the mail. Since then, I've noticed my skin a bit less red/irritated and breakouts are not as frequent.
Anyways, I'll keep you posted on my progress with tetralysal. I tried minocycline and tetracycline 5 years ago (for one year or so), but since then haven't been on anti-b. Recently, my acne flared up again (nothing out of control, but annoying nevertheless), so I'm now trying tetralysal per my derm.
anyways, best of luck with your treatment and I'll let you know of any updates on my experience.
Keep the fight because it is totally worth it. It's not over until we WIN.
Cheers,
