Do taking low does of antibiotics (like tetracycline 500 mg every third day) do anything for your acne?

Possibly ,but its likely your body/acne will become resistant eventually.

Yes, it keeps it at bay. My last station, I could take 50mg mino a day, and it would keep it under control. Does not heal anything. You stop, it comes back.

I have never developed any resistance, even after longer time. In bad cases of acne, you may have a choice between tane and antibiotics only.

But 50 mg minocycline a day is the normal dosage you take...

No, they give over 100, even 200 for some conditions. Also depends on your weight. I am 75kilos. I was even over 80 when I did this.

Perhaps even 1 every 2 days will work. You have to experiment. Mino has side effects as well.

Mino was about 1 mg / kg so you should have taken 75 mg/ day for acne. That is not a big jump.

Usual Adult Dose for Acne

Extended-release formulations:
45 to 49 kg: 45 mg orally once a day
50 to 59 kg: 55 mg orally once a day
60 to 71 kg: 65 mg orally once a day
72 to 84 kg: 80 mg orally once a day
85 to 96 kg: 90 mg orally once a day
97 to 110 kg: 105 mg orally once a day
111 to 125 kg: 115 mg orally once a day
126 to 136 kg: 135 mg orally once a day

Duration of therapy: 12 weeks

Comments:
-Recommended dose is about 1 mg/kg once a day.
-This drug did not show any effect on non-inflammatory acne lesions.
-Safety not established beyond 12 weeks.

Use: To treat only inflammatory lesions of non-nodular moderate to severe acne vulgaris

I don't know why but minocycline doesn't exist where i live.

I didn't have extended release. Normal ones only(these are dosed higher). I know they give even 200mg a day for this.

50mg a day, or even 25 a day, is not much. It's below normal dose.

" We conclude thatminocycline, at doses of up to 200 mg/day, issafe,long-term, for acne, when such doses are clinically necessary. "

I don't think below 25 a day would work for me. If by low dose you mean 1 pill a week of anything, I doubt that will ever work. It also depends on severity of acne.

Yes this is long release- I have a regular one(must dose more). I can't remember, maybe 150 or so...

I will admit I later adjusted doses on my own, and between 25 and 50 a day worked to keep acne at bay.

My mino is ratiopharm German 50mg regular capsule. I did use this long term, as did my bro, and we never had any resistance. For scalp/back acne.

EDIT: 25 a day means 1 every 2 days. The capsule is 50mg, don't think there is smaller dose than this.
