So i went through Accutane treatment for my acne 2 years ago and the doctor prescribed 20mg/ day for 3 months, and then 20 mg every other day from month 4 to 6. by the end of this period i did not have any acne left on my face. then the doctor told me to to continue with 20mg per week until the dosage/ body weight ratio was satisfied.
so i went abroad at the middle of the treatment (with my pills) to study abroad, and then after 2 years from the beginning of the treatment i noticed that i will need a new batch of pills because i had bought only half of what i needed.
so i visited a doctor in another country and she says my treatment scheme is totally wrong and she proposes a new scheme which sounds rather aggressive to me.
the new scheme goes like this: 30 mg/day for one month, if things were okay, then 40 mg/day for the second month. if again everything was fine, 50mg/day for the third month and on she goes with adding +10 mg to what ever i am taking until the treatment is over.
so i am confused. the first doctor goes with reducing the dosage, and the second doctor goes on with increasing the dosage by time.
which one do you think is the right way of treating acne by Accutane? how was your treatment like?

Long term dosage can be harmful but there are people and even studies done on people who have done long term low dose courses ( like yours) without out any much side effects. My accutane scheme was like 20mg a day for first month and then 40mg for 2nd and 60mg for the next month. however I stopped the treatment after 4 months because my skin became clear and I was happy.
