So i finished a six month course of accutane on April first. so its been a little over a month since finishing. It was my second course, and i took it for persistent comendonal acne (every single pore on my face filled with a hard long sebum plug), not cystic/hormonal. Bottom line, it did not work for me. yes you read that correctly, accutane did not work. and i weigh 110 and took 60 mg the entire time. My whole 6 month course my skin looked the worse its ever been, and once i stopped taking i stopped breaking out so bad, but I'm still breaking out just as much as when i started the freaking course. dermatologists say they don't have anything left for me so thats a battle of its own.
for reference I've had my hormones tested and they're all normal, i eat a paleo diet, drink atleast a gallon of water a day, exercise regularly, take supplements and probiotics, and get 8 hours of sleep.
my concern is, because of the slowed down healing from accutane my face DOES NOT heal. AT ALL. normally people probably wouldn't express much about this concern, because at this point they're usually clear so they don't experience it. However, my unlucky life has blessed me with being the 1% that a second course of accutane doesn't work for so I'm still breaking out very regularly. All of my acne scabs some a lot worse than others depending on how many pores are inflamed...and i don't pick at it....but it still scabs on its own..as if the plugs are just bursting out of my skin. before accutane and even while on it, these scabs would go away in 3-4 days for really bad ones, 2 days for small ones.
not so lucky anymore. I have had the same scabs on my face for over a month now. i only keep adding to the collection since my breakouts aren't slowing and NONE of them will heal. I've tried doing nothing, keeping them moist w aquaphor, aloe, TTO, ass cream, you name it. my face looks god awful. its ruining my life to be quite honest considering i dropped out of college for a year because of how bad it got. I'm trying to not be dramatic, but walking around with uncover able scabs that REFUSE to go away gets to you and really infringes on quality of life, especially when i had such a good one before all of this acne came on in the fall. id hate to sacrifice my whole summer and another year of my education for this shit. I've already lost so much.
can someone please help? any similar experiences? any advice for healing? what am i supposed to do with my skin now? I'm so lost. and I've been to so many derms who say theres nothing else they can do and they don't know whats wrong with me.PLEASE. any tips on healing/advice for the future is so helpful

Hi, yes i have tried proactive.....it didnt work for me and i went back to several derms and the only thing they could come up with was Aczone which I've used in the past, and hasn't worked. Ive been "trying" it for 2 weeks now and it hasn't done anything at all. thanks though
Maybe you should give your skin a rest from all the medications for sometime..maybe try some mild home remedies..aloe Vera.. Almond oil..things like that because everyone's skin is different and maybe yours can't tolerate all that hard stuff..i know this doesn't help much but there's no harm in trying home remedies..not much side effects. Good luck!

thank you! i actually have been doing a modified caveman regimen with aloe and rosehip oil since i finished accutane (no face washes with chemicals only a few splashes of water) so I'm currently doing exactly that. (besides testing the topical on a few areas but i was still breaking out before that as well) it makes my surrounding skin look awesome, it just isn't stopping any breakouts unfortunately. thanks though:)

not using a facewash is probably not a good idea..water alone cannot cleanse your skin. There are many products that are strong enough to control minor breakouts and mild enough to not irritate your skin

I have tried salicylic acid before, unfortunately i am allergic to it so I can't use it on my skin otherwise i get a rash that turns into a blistering burn. I am not allergic to, but also extremely sensitive to lactic and glycolic acids so I have been using glycolic acid very sparingly but it hasn't done anything:( I'm still on the search:( my skin isn't inflamed so to speak, its just these little skin colored bumps that seem to multiply very rapidly and when squeezed, a long thick string comes out. they're not inflamed usually. but they will sit there until they come out...i have one on my eyelid crease thats been there for TWO years. its like i HAVE to extract it for the pore to start healing, otherwise it stays there and grows larger, therefore leaving a larger pore that will fill easier/scar the longer it sits, yet i can't stop them from forming no matter what. what blows my mind is the fact that I was on 60mg per day for 6 months and my skin never stopped producing these things......i don't understand how thats possible when accutane is supposed to completely cut off oil production....it doesn't make sense to me, nor any dermatologist I've been to, especially since every hormone and food allergy test comes back normal. i feel like I'm a lost cause...i have nothing left to try really:(
