Hey I was just wondering if your supposed to take vitamin E with accutane. My derm told me that vitamin e will help with dryness, however I've read a paper saying that it doesn't help with side effects. Regardless I don't mind taking it, but is there any way that Vitamin E can reduce the effectiveness of accutane or make it not work as well? Knowledgeable input would be greatly appreciated.
Your dermatologist knows a lot more than I do, and many dermatologists have different views on things. For example, one dermatologist could notice that 20/25 of theirAccutane patients benefited from taking vitamin E supplements, however another dermatologist could notice only 5/25 noticing benefits from taking vitamin E supplements. Their views will be different.
At one time it was thought that vitamin E could help withsome of the side effects ofAccutane and wasbeneficial for acne sufferers. However, about 6 years ago, a study was done and found that taking vitamin E while being on Accutane did not really change the side effects or reduce the amount of acne that a person had. I would not take anysupplements that you do not have to. I read this from Arnold R. Oppenheim, MD.
