I have been on Differin 0.3 gel for 6 weeks (nearly 7 now) and it has completely destroyed my skin. I went into differin with 4 pimples on my face and no scars, 6 weeks later I have approximately 30 pimples and each one that has come and gone has scarred. I just went back to the derm this afternoon and was prescribed doxycycline for inflammation.
Has anyone used this combo before, and will the doxycycline break out my skin all over again since I'm starting that 6 weeks after I've already started differin? I'm considering not even touching the doxycycline and sticking with the differin for 12 full weeks.
Retinoids are a mixed bag. They're a decent option, but I always urge people to proceed with caution and patch test. Also, if you have super sensitive/thin skin and a tendency to develop deeply inflamed acne [cysts, nodules], they could be a really bad choice.
I tried Differin 0.1 gel and it was fine on my neck and chest but far too harsh for the delicate skin of my face. It created stinging, burning pustules that left two tiny scars and PIH on my right cheek. I was so annoyed. I could have gently and effectively extracted the cc's I applied the gel to with an esthetician's help instead of experiencing a violent purge. I'm simply glad I didn't apply it all over my face.
I'd stop the Differin since it obviously isn't working. I'm worried it's going to scar you and make you worse. Honestly, it does not sound normal to go from a few small zits to 30 pustules and scarring...I don't think that's a purge, it sounds like a negative reaction. Sometimes antibiotics help, sometimes they don't. Doxy made me worse, but Mino worked for me a few years ago. Meds are weird that way. Just proceed with caution.
I've decided against starting the doxy and I'm sticking with only differin and gentle facial cleanser/moisturizer for the full 12 weeks. I noticed small improvement the past three days but woke up with a few more spots and the dryness from a fast temperature drop is killing my skin, does anyone know of good moisturizers?? Before differin I had problems with the one I'm using now so its a possibility this is part of the issue but I don't know of any good moisturizers.
I have been taking Doxy for the last 5 weeks as I have a lot of painful acne on my back. It doesn't seem to be clearing. The differin 0.1 doesn't seem to have an effect either!. I have had rosacea for the last few years and started with La Roche-Possay's anti-redness product (not cheap but a little goes a long way) This has worked and I can now go barefaced. They have a good selection of moisturisers too, I would take a look at their website. You can often get discounts at superdrug or online (feelunique). Good luck x
