I'm currently taking low dose accutane (10 mg a day) and had asked before if it was ok to drink. Everything I read said it would be fine (especially at that dose) but now I'm not so sure. I've always had a pretty high tolerance for alcohol where it takes quite a bit to get me drunk. Last week I had a night of binge drinking where I had about 10 drinks of pretty much everything so wine, vodka coolers, and lots of different kinds of shots. I know that's not good under any circumstance but I've done it before and had a mild hangover that lasted a couple of hours. This time it lasted three days with an upset stomach/diarrhea being the main symptom. Has anyone experienced this/do you know if this is related to the accutane? Today is Tuesday and I had about 2 glasses of wine on Sunday night and I had the same upset stomach/diarrhea yesterday and a little bit today though not as bad as after the night of 10 drinks. It's just weird for me because I never usually have any symptoms after drinking - especially when it's not even that much so only 2 drinks! Just trying to figure out if this would be related to the accutane. It doesn't affect me when I'm drinking at all but for whatever reason the hangover effects are so much worse!
Yes, it's because of the accutane. You shouldn't be going out or drinking regularly while on it. It puts a lot of strain on your liver and the effects of the alcohol/hangover will be MUCH more potent. The same thing happened to a girl I knew once who celebrated her 21st birthday on accutane - she was dying for like 3 days afterwards. All the same symptoms as you.
When people say it's fine to drink on accutane, they mean on rare occasions. Like don't miss your 21st birthday or your best friend's bachelor party over it, but be prepared to hurt afterwards. Don't go out drinking every weekend or having drinks with your dinner frequently. It should be reserved for absolute "can't miss" events until your course is done.
