Hello Chinkz! welcome to the group. I never tried any PRP.

Chicanery please be careful with minoxidil, this can affect the heart, it is a vasodilator :) I have stopped using it, i don't like the side effect on me :(

Thanks Karly!
So far Minoxidil is the only thing that gives me some peace in terms of seeing baby hairs. This has to be an indication of regrowth. I understand that it's pretty much a lifelong commitment but anything for hair right? I'v actually been using it for years. Not as regularly as I am now though.  But I definitely will ensure that I am regular with usage henceforth. It's just been horrific to see all this hair just falling out and I definitely see a huge reduction in density. Just wonder how long it would take for it to get back to its healthy natural pre-accutane state. Really dread having taken accutane. Now that I think about it my acne wasn't even that bad. But then again it's easy to blame yourself especially since the acne has resolved.  I guess it seemed like the logical thing to do when i took it. Sigh.

Yes, MeritNorth, still working. No baby hairs but the falling hair decrease :)

My shedding is really bad again, and I'm losing mainly short-medium length hairs. :(

@chicanery mine is terrible right now too! :( I just switched to an aloe shampoo to see if that helps. Also one thing I have noticed is that my shedding seems to be significantly worse on my period. I'm guessing it's due to hormones, but it seems like any growth I build up seems to be lost at that time.

Oh my god - mine too! Can't believe you've just said that because i've been thinking about that a lot lately.

I lose a tonne of head and body hair just before and during my period. This is when estrogen plummets and is naturally the lowest. Low estrogen = hair loss, hence after menopause there's a marked thinning in hair.

Currently think that a. this is diffuse alopecia areata/autoimmune or b. that accutane has tweaked our hormones, meaning our skin is good but that we will have to deal with this.

I do have mainly regular periods, though, and no other real hormonal side effects that would indicate low estrogen (no hot flashes, real insomnia, etc.). I'm anxious and prone to depression but that was true before accutane. I also have zero issues with weight loss/gain. So, I'm not really sure.

Have you had your hormones tested?

I haven't had my hormones tested, but I also don't have any side effects that would indicate low estrigen either. I'm currently on the pill and skip so I only get my period once every 9 weeks (I've been on this for the past six years). I've been thinking of stopping the pill but I'm afraid that will lead to even more hair loss which I cannot afford at this point. :(  I have lost all hope that this will ever reverse. I've accepted the fact that I have about 1/3 of my original hair density, but I wish the shedding would jus stop so I could move on with life!

I also tried aloe Vera shampoo for a couple weeks and it seemed to make my hair fall out even more, so I'm back to my old shampoo. Ugh.

Ahh okay I see, thanks for the reply! :) I feel like our issue isn't low estrogen then - if it was, the estrogenic pill would most probably sort that out for you. One of the remedies given to people with low estrogen is the combined BC pill. That's actually a relief - I can't take estrogen anyway really, due to my severe migraines.

I'm thinking it's definitely either a physical conformational change to the hair follicle (accutane has physically weakened their grip on our hair), OR it's an immune response. If it's the former, we have to accept that we've taken a potent drug that has changed our bodies. It's sad, but life moves on I guess :/. If it's the latter, scalp injections might help and don't seem too risky short-term.

Whether we can save our hair/stop the shed or not, I'm determined to get to the bottom of this. I'm actually studying pharmacology at university and it seems absurd to me that they have not actually studied the effects of accutane properly, further than knowing that it clears acne and has some bad side effects.

I guess we've learnt our lesson - I'm never touching a drug again unless it's going to save my life.

I've decided to pay for a private appointment with a clinical dermatologist here, as I'm away from home. i'll see what she says for some closure, and then after that, I'll try my hardest to move on from this entirely/just accept what has happened.

Hi everybody! I just came across this group and Im so relieved Im not the only one! So for some insight Im 19 years of age and also took accutane for about 2 years at the age of 16-18. I took about 60 mg of accutane a month and all I can say is that I really regret it. Like most of you accutane left me with this perfect acne free skin that looked better that I couldve imagined, but the side effects during the treatment killed me. Not literally but I did have the driest Hair and skin for the longest. Post treatment my skin is actually better than accutane but I feel as though this medication altered my hormones to the point of damaging my body because Ive lost a pretty good portion of my hair. I used to have long thick hair and always had hair loss but this made it worse to the point were handful of hair balls would fall out when I showered. I should also add that during this treatment I was just transitioning into being vegetarian. Im now 3 and half years vegetarian and I feel as if that could have been another major factor to my hair loss. As of now I have very thin hair that looks so weird if I put it up. I cant even put my hair in buns anymore bc there just isnt enough hair. Anyways Im hoping that by joining this group Ill be able to feel better. Ive tried everything to make my hair grow but nothing seems to work. Im qlso going to go get some blood work done so I can see if something isnt right. If it has to do with my diet Ive been considering going back to eating chicken, but only chicken to see if my current diet is a contributing factor to my hair loss. I just realized I rambled a lot sorry. Lol

Hey all, wanted to post a quick update. I went to the salon last week and chopped my hair (it was always fairly long but had gotten to the point of looking so thin and stringy, I was sick of it). So now it's above my shoulders and it definitely feels a lot healthier. Anyways, it was an Aveda salon and my stylist recommended trying their new Invati Advanced system for hair loss. It's a shampoo, conditioner and scalp revitalizer. I also purchased the Aveda thickening tonic to put in my hair during the day. I've been using this all for almost a week and I can already tell a difference! My hair is feeling healthier and I can see baby hairs growing in places where my hair loss has been the worst. It's too early to tell, but I have some hope! I have also been making sure I'm drinking enough water during the day (I've been terrible at that lately), and I started taking a probiotic to regulate my digestive system. I'm unsure if either of those are related, but my hair is definitely looking and feeling a lot better. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Its good to hear some good news! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0793L5922/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0
I've been using this shampoo for a month now. It looks promising, however I used it every 5 days instead of every day so I donno if its as effective. although on the 1st and 2nd days after I shampoo I feel like I shed less?!
Also been using Monoxidil for a month (hoping it would give some strength to my hair) and then maybe after few months I get off it.
So early shedding of Rogain and shampoo kinda counter balance each other but also I don't see crazy excessive shedding from Rogain. Ill give another update in a month or so.

Hi guys, just giving an update! My hair is starting to get thicker and the places where my hair was thin which was mostly in the front of my scalp is growing like crazy!! Im so happy and excited bc I can feel my hair getting thicker in the shower its amazing!! I wanna tell you guys the product Ive been using. Its this oil by Camille Rose natural mobs and honey ultimate growth serum! They sell it at target and even though its kinda pricey I recommend it!! I usually put the majority of oil where I had lots of hair thinning and then I flip my head upside down and massage it in, everywhere on my scalp and leave it in a couple hours before I shower. Then I just shampoo like normal and condition and let me tell yall this stuff has really worked wonders! It makes my hair really soft and my family has been saying my hairline looks fuller so Im really happy! Ive been using it for almost 2 and a 1/2 weeks about 3 times a week and Im excited to see the results I will get. Ive also been showering or washing my hair with cold water only and it has really reduced the amount of hair that falls out in the shower. Anyways I just wanted to post this update! I hope all of you are well!

Hi all,

i have been losing my eyebrow hair due to taking Minocycline (for about 10 months) and have been shedding my eyebrow hairs for about half of the 10 months. I stopped taking minocycline almost 2 weeks ago and I am still shedding hairs from my eyebrows. I am a male and keep my hair on my head short (ever since my military days) and if I go bald there I wouldnt really care much, but me losing my eyebrow lashes has been freaking me out alot lately. I also started accutane as soon as I got off mino and noticed that accutane also causes hair loss, but I am on a low dose of accutane (20mg a day) and will stay on a low dose treatment for however long i need to be on it. I have not gone through all these pages from this post, but does anyone know what I could use on my eyebrows to help with the hairloss there?

thanks in advance for any help and/or suggestions.

I don't know what the hell is happening! I'm losing HANDFULS of hair again - i mean about 600 hairs a day. My shedding hasn't been this high in about 8 months. Absolutely terrified. Cannot psychologically cope with my hair getting as thin as it was over summer again. I really thought minoxidil was helping me maintain "cosmetically acceptible" hair, but this feels like the real deal again - feel like i'm about to lose it again.

My hair has felt a bit better recently. I'm still using the Aveda hair products which seem to be helping slightly. However, I'm on my period again and my shedding has increased significantly.

Chicanery - have you noticed anything different as far as hormones/diet/etc. when your shedding is worse?

I used minoxidil for 1.5 months which I guess helped slow down the shedding but now I stopped using it and Im noticing an increase in shedding, is that normal? would it tamper after a while? anyone knows? (I didnt want to be permanently on minoxidil thats why I stopped using it. Guess I'll go back on it if I got desperate)
