I'm a 24 year old female with acne on the lower end of moderate; about 5-8 cysts at any given time and TONS of clogged pores. My skin tends to be dry.
I started Tretinoin 0.05% cream one week ago, and I'm starting to purge and flake, but irritation is not too bad. Recently, I've been reading up about the dreaded comedogenic isopropyl myristate in the cream. I panicked and went to another derm who prescribed Tazorac 0.05% cream short contact therapy. But now I see that tazorac contains mineral oil, which is ALSO pore clogging!
I realize that this may be insanity on my part, but I just want to feel like I'm not going to undergo a traumatic purge just to find that I'm clogging and need to re-do the entire process with another retinoid. Should I switch to the Tazorac, stick with the Tret, or try to get another script entirely?? My skin is dry, so I'm worried the alcohol in the gels would be overkill.
So discouraged. Any wisdom would be helpful! Please help!!
Huh... now that makes sense.. I have pimples where I've never had a single one before. Thank you for this, I will call my doctor tomorrow.
I think everytime you switch retinoids your skin goes a little bit crazy trying to adjust, if i were you I'd just stop using anything for a little while so that your skin can calm down first.
So even though I haven't had months of using tretinoin cream, I started having breakouts during week 2-3 and that's when I decided I didn't want to damage my skin. When I went back to demotologist, he said it takes 8-10 weeks of use to bypass the breakouts and then see a change. I got nervous and stopped as my acne wasn't that bad. Fast forward over a year, my acne and scarring is out of control and I look like I'm in my mid 30s (late 20s, let's not rush it) but clearly my skin has gone through a change as I approach you 30s no now I've resorted back to the cream. I can handle some breakouts if I know it's going to potentially help. They told me to use literally gen smallest little dollop, and I'm sure it's going to take time to adjust since acne isn't something that happens overnight usually, in case pretty much. I ondee if this helps with scarring too like I've read the reviews from so many sites and I hope I be just a good outcome as they have, I keep using it for few weeks and then I'd see, unless you have sensitive skin.

Do you think the tretinoin caused your skin to age initially?
i used tazorac twice and now I've got the skin of a grandmother..it's messed up badly..it's been 2 months since I used it and no improvement..just tons of negative symptoms..I post all over this site now because I'm losing my mind over this overnight phenomenon
I have found many others dealing with the same thing and most all of them have no happy ending..even years and years after discontinued use..it's very upsetting
