Doxycycline

I went to my first dermatologist appointment, in search of something to help my moderate to severe acne. I had gone through my share of over-the-counter experimentations and even tried some home remedies, all to no avail. I had some previous knowledge on Accutane, as my father was on it while he was in high school. I had told her that I was interested, but she said she wanted to go through a couple other oral antibiotics first. So, with hopes higher than my brother in high school, I am venturing into this journey unfortunately. I will update soon.
BTW: My camera sucks, and you can't really see any of my blemishes. It also doesn't help that I am having a pretty good face day.

As soon as you get off oral antibiotics there's at least 95% chance that acne will come back, and 90% that in the same severity. You have to find good regimen when you are on them, some topical retinoid and topical antibiotic/bp(I would strongly recommend bp). What I observed on myself is acne cause more acne, for example when I have pimple somewhere it's very probable that more will come near it. Oral antibiotics will give you some time to start clean, but I would strongly advise against using them long-term. I don't know what dosage of doxycycline you are, I hope that is low, because even at low dosage antibiotics have anti-inflammatory effect, and at the same time don't have negative impact on microflora in your gut(which btw can also cause your acne)

I actually am also on a retinoid. But This is just supposed to be a stepping stone to other antibiotics, so it won't be long term. I'm on 100mg twice a day. Thank you for your concern.

Well you can be like me, use the antibiotics as a temporary fix while you research/study and try to find the underlying cause. Long term is like anything longer than 6 months or something, so don't worry for now, just absorb more information online. And don't forget to avoid any sources of calcium/milk (within 2 hours) of when taking the pill, or else it'll be not absorbed as well
