Hello guys,

Im new to the forum but familiar with accutane (took it once).
Im contemplating on getting into treatment once again because I want to completly and permanently remove acne.
Last time I took it was during my senior year in high school and it worked really well.
During my junion year in college I started taking it again but in a really low dose because I was away from home and it was very difficult for me to get blood tested. Nevertheless everytime I could I got my blood tests and always came out within range; eventually, it was my dermatologist and I decision to quit the treatment since I was feeling good and acne free (not for long).
This year I seem to have a mild break out that is somewhat under control with: topiccreams (benzoyl perroxide)+daily cleanser+moisturizing cream.
Im considering accutane again but Im worried about the long term side effect it may have and if its worth it.
Im a guy who likes to go to the gym a lot and SURFFF. I ve never had any sideffects from the treatment besides sensitive skin to the sun and dry eyes/lips yet.
I always have my dermatologiest to guide me with the skin care but still I would love to hear everyones opinion.

The things is: I want clear skin once and for all but I do not want to give up the surfing days plus Im a little worried about going into treatment more than once (or twice?).

PS. Is it helpful if I also say that I live in a very hot and humid country?
humidity is always above 75% and the heat is in the range of 90-95F.

I feel like you answered your question right there. If you are that worried about taking a medication that is purely for cosmetic reasons, then you shouldn't be taking it at all in my opinion. It simply isn't worth risking your health for it. I understand your desire for wanting to get rid of all of your acne once and for all, but like you side, the potential side effects make it very unappealing (and rightfully so).

Your caution about taking another treatment is good. Many people have taken Accutane several times, and they didn't develop any bad side effects until their final course. Therefore, just because you felt fine on your first course of Accutane doesn't mean things will go so smoothly the next time. And again, since you're worried about taking a cosmetic drug, I truly think that you should try and stay away from it.

Best of luck!
