going on the pill, and weight gain?

I'm a female who has higher than average levels of androgens. I haven't gotten this checked out and confirmed, but I have extremely oily skin, am prone to cysts and in terms of my physique I am naturally lean (build muscle quickly and low body fat, around 12%), so I think it's pretty likely. I've been considering going on the pill to balance out my hormones which I think could help my skin, but I'm concerned about other effects this would have, mostly weight gain. I have little to no active acne (thanks to Differin and Clindoxyl) at the moment, and I don't know if slightly improved skin would be worth the risk of weight gain. Does anyone have experience with this they could share?

You sound pretty similar to me! I developed very oily skin resulting in hormonal cystic acne & I am naturally lean - have been all my life! I went on the pill almost 3 months ago to help balance out my hormones. I never officially got them checked either, but was almost positive it was a hormonal issue. So far I've had no weight gain at all and no other side effects. My skin has improved a lot.

I don't think weight gain is a definite for everyone, just a possibility for some people. If you don't have any issues with your weight anyway, being naturally lean, I don't think you will have much to worry about. Everyone is different, and there are a lot of different pills. Just address your concerns with your doc and ask which one he/she recommends for you. Good luck!

Hi I agree with kellbell. I actually felt better on my birth control and didn't gain weight from it. Some people lose weight on yaz or Yasmine. Its possible tp gain weight but those who do usually gain about 5-10 lbs average.
Ive also been on orthocyclen and I didn't gain weight either, orrho tried cyclen I didn't like.
Even if I didn't have skin issues I'd be on yaz because of the way it helps my other problems ( hot flashes, almost no period now)...
