I am a 23 year old woman. I took accutane for three months ending March 14th. To this day I am still shedding hundreds of hair a day. When will this end? I am worried that I will need to shave my head soon as my scalp is showing so badly. :(

Please any comments, experiences, opinions, advice, support, would be greatly appreciated. I am FREAKING out.

I have seen my GP as well as 3 derms. One deem said accutane should be out of my system in a month. What? The other derm said recovery is 3-6 months. Other derm said 6-12 months.

I am kind of in the same boat as you. 23 year old female. i am on my third month of 40mg/day. I noticed my hair is falling out a lot more than normal. Every hair that falls out is coming right from the root as it has a white bulb on the end. My derm said that this is called telogen effluvium and it happens in patients sometimes and it will begin to grow back after treatment... he is also getting my iron levels checked in case that is contributing to it. I am supposed to be on the drug for 3 more months so I am trying to stick it out as it is helping my skin a lot and i cant imagine it going back to the state it was in since it was severely effecting my personality and self esteem. So i am just hoping that my derm is right and my hair will begin to grow back once it is out of my system. I totally understand how frustrating it is.

My hair fell out during treatment and for a few months afterwards. I have very thick hair and I mostly noticed lots of hair in my brush and lots sitting around the sink after blow drying. I had my hair cut to a bob after stopping Accutane and the shedding stopped immediately. I think just having less pull on my hair every day made a big difference.

Northern Lights-

My derm also told me that there would be regrowth after stopping the accutane. I stopped at three months just because i had read about so many other people's experiences where their hair kept falling out for months and months after stopping. I am glad I quit when I did because here I am, almost 5 months since stopping accutane, still shedding just as much or more hair on a daily basis. :(

 Fudgesicle--

I have very short hair so pulling isn't an issue. Thanks for your reply. You said that your hair continued to shed for 3 months after quitting accutane? I am still shedding hair and quit almost 5 months ago. Not fun.

Hey - how are you getting on with the shedding now? I just made a massive post about my own shedding experience so far. Hoping it will come to an end soon.

Hi! My shedding seems to be slowing down, Praise God! However, my hair looks thinner than ever before and I am just praying for recovery. How are you?
