Hi all. I'm new here.. and I just wanted to get some opinions. I've been on the same BC since I was 22.. I'm now 28. I take yasmin. I've been noticing over the last year or so that my skin has been gradually getting worse. I've always gotten the odd cyst.. usually 2 or 3 a year, but since January I've had at least 10. Nothing has changed.. my diet has actually gotten better (I've stopped eating dairy and seriously started limiting my sugar intake). Has anyone ever heard of or experienced birth control actually making breakouts worse? Like maybe it's not working like it used to? On top of the cysts, I'm getting a ton of small pimples all over.. especially under my nose and on my chin. It's just never ending and I've always had pretty clear skin. My skin has also gotten really oily.. and it never used to be. Any opinions are much appreciated!!
Hi Torontogirl17,
I'm fighting a similar battle - I went on Dianette to try and help my skin but it's became 10x worse since I started taking it 2 months ago, I don't know where to persevere or give up and try something else. Have you been back to see your Doctor? They may be able to prescribe you a topical treatment to help or recommend a difference BCP?
Hopefully you find something which helps,
I got on the same birth control about 12 years ago, and have been on it ever since. I did have one very bad breakout when I first began it, then, like you, I would get really bad cystic acne. I went to my dermatologist and he had me on 2 gels and a pill. They didn't really seem to help much. My dermatologist also would repeatedly recommend me to go see the in office aesthetician. I would always turn it down because they are more expensive. I finally broke down and went to see her when I couldn't stand the constant breakouts anymore. Let me tell you, it was the best decision I have ever made for my skin. She began with a consultation, as well as popping what she could and applied spot treatments and chemical peels. I will admit the first month or 2 was pretty rough because I had scabs and a peeling face, which she warned me about. After it all finally healed, I still came in about once a month or so, and she continued whatever treatments she thought my face need at the time, such as peels or touch up to lighten the dark spots, and salicylic acid and retinol treatments. I now only have to see her about 3 times a year, if that. I haven't had a breakout in over a year, and rarely have to even wear makeup anymore. My skin has never been better. You should really look up a really good aesthetician where you live.

I've been on yasmin the whole time. I know over time things change within your body.. so I'm just wondering if maybe it's not as effective and maybe my hormones are out of wack or something...

sadly.. my doctor is useless. I went to see a derm who rushed me out of her office after putting me on aczone.. which is a topical and it's done nothing what so ever. It's hard to find good doctors these days. At least where I live.

Oh believe me, I think its getting worse everywhere! I've had to diagnose myself several times. Or you get a doctors assistant who is just out of med school but they charge you the same as seeing a doctor.
Maybe ask about spironolactone. I honestly don't know what BC pulls would stop working. Sometimes the generics are to blame but its all so frustrating!
