Hi,
So i'm only on week 2 of treatment on 60mg a day isotretinoin (roaccutane), I have had the usual side effects I was expecting, dry lips and skin etc. The first few days I had a really horrific headache that nothing would get rid of but thankfully it cleared and hasn't come back. The one side effect that is really bothering me is I have a rash (like small red dots) all down my chest and stomach and my skin is so itchy where this rash is and also down my back. Moisturizer doesn't seem to make much difference, and the area is not particularly dry or anything as I have been careful about using a good moisturizer regularly. All the other side effects I see to have managed to keep from getting too bad with the usual treatments/cures people have posted on here and what my derm has recommended, although I know the worst is probably still yet to come as its early days. The rash feels like its improving, its not as intense or as itchy as it first was.
I was wondering if anyone else had experianced this in the early days of treatment and if so did you find anything that worked or did you just have to ride it out.
Hey GrowingCosmo!
I actually just finished my Accutane regimen, and I am ecstatic about my results!
Early on in my treatment, I began using Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream for my face and Aveeno body moisturizer for my body. That helped immensely with the types of dry skin patches/rashes that you are experiencing. I also was religious about applying and reapplying Vaseline on my lips to keep any at all moisture locked in.
At 2 weeks, I had already experienced the typical initial breakout, and by a month I was fairly out of the woods. It only got better from there for me, and I wish you the same results! Hang in there!
If you have any questions, feel free to message me!
Best of luck!
Thanks! I am also using the cetaphil but at the moment my skin is just so dry and flaking off no matter what I do. Just one of those things. My lips are still getting worse but thankfully the horrible itchy rash has gone and has been replaced by like excema on my arms and hands looks worse but is actually bothering me far less, by the sounds of things that's pretty common reading on here. I will try aveeno for those areas maybe it will be better!
Just got another headache last night that I can't get rid of. I'm hoping I will start seeing some improvement in the next couple of weeks and that will hopefully make me feel a bit more positive about it! Glad to hear it has worked for you ... Maybe there is hope for me yet!
So...you guys both registered to the site within a week of each other, have similar usernames, and almost identical punctuation and format. Also Soundschedule, may I say, outstanding penmanship from an almost 16 year old. You must be taking AP classes right about now. Just curious, how does one find the time to register for a forum at 1 am on Thursday with final testing?
