I have been on some form of antibiotics for four years straight. For about 11 months I have been taking 40 mg of Oracea 1x a day and 50 mg of minocycline 2x a day. The past few months my skin has been breaking out again which tells me I have become resistant to the antibiotics. I'm considering weening off antibiotics because there is no reason I should be taking it if it isn't helping. My question is do you think that the antibiotics aren't working at all or there not working as as they used to? What is the true definition of resistance when it comes to antibiotics? Thanks for any help; dermatologists just haven't been helpful!
Assuming that you are on antibiotics for acne, then your dermatologist should know better- no one should be on antibiotics for acne longer than a few months (2-4 months). If oral antibiotics and good topical regimen are not working, then the next step should be to consider oral isotretinoin. If your dermatologist insists on oral antibiotics in spite of lack of efficacy, and in spite of being on antibiotics for so long, then you should see another dermatologist.
I wish you all the best and I am looking forward to seeing some update on your situation on this forum so that we all can learn from it!

Thank you so much Vice! Yes, I will be talking to my dermatologist this Wednesday so hopefully we have some resolutions. I'll try and post updates when that time comes!
