Hey girls,
I've been visiting this site for months and finally decided to make an account!
I'll make a long story short and just say that after finally deciding to give birth control a go, and after researching it extensively/asking friends for their experiences I decided to try Estelle-35 ED (which is the generic brand of Diane-35 sold here in Australia) for it's combined promises of birth control and clearing up acne. As a teenager my skin was prone to pre-menstrual breakouts around my chin, nothing too serious (though I thought it was at the time). I'm 22 now and as of about a year or 2 ago, my skin started breaking out more than it had before. The breakouts were still around my chin/jawline but were more frequent and more severe. I am now halfway through my second blister pack (second month) of Estelle-35 ED and my skin is the worst it's ever been in my life! I now have pimples on my cheeks, which I've never had before, as well as in the usual places. It's so disheartening looking in the mirror and not liking what you see. I don't even want to leave the house at the moment! I've read that it can take 3-6 months on Estelle before your skin starts to clear up, so I'm going to stick it out and hope for the best, but I'd love to hear from anyone else who is on this BC or has had a similar experience.
Did your skin get worse before it got better and how long did it take for it to clear up?
Thank you
Hey! I have just finished my 4th month of estelle, I was on yasmin but it started to give me acne on my jaw line, so I switched and my skin has been worse than ever. In the 2nd and 3rd month it was deep, cystic acne but luckily this month it has improved and my pimples are smaller, fewer and closer to the surface of the skin. The pimples left my jaw aaaand went to my cheeks I'm going to the doctors this week to see if they can prescribe me an antibiotic whilst I'm going through the "worse before better" stage or if I should just switch pills. I also heard that with generic brands it's really important to take them at the exact same time everyday, but I will have to read up on that! I also went to a nutritionist, which are really helpful as your diet can definitely contribute to acne. I was eating "clean" foods, but was lacking magnesium so I was given supplements which has helped tremendously with pimples on my forehead and some on my cheeks! Let me know how you go x
Hey! Thank you for your reply! I've just finished my second month and am waiting to start my third after the 7 day break. I've been following a more consistent routine lately (Sukin sensitive cleanser, Benzac AC 2.5% and Sukin sensitive moisturiser twice daily) which definitely helps to control my break outs. It's good to hear that your skin is starting to improve though. I have heard the 4 month mark tends to show some results, so I'm still fine with just waiting it out and seeing how I go. Let me know what your doctor tells you in regards to starting an antibiotic or just switching pills, because I've definitely considered both! I'm really hoping my skin will improve with Estelle because it seems to be working really well for me (no negative side effects), and it's so cheap, so it would be great if I didn't have to switch! I wouldn't be surprised if I was lacking in a few vital vitamins/minerals but I hadn't actually thought about it, so thank you! xx
Hey sorry for the really late reply, I went to the doctors and they want to put me on roaccutane and I changed back to yasmin. They did say that estelle is what the dermatologists prescribe, but it must not work for me. I guess if you're risking a lot of scarring then I would see a doctor. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful! Your skin care is good as you're keeping it simple, which is what the doctors and dermatologists always recommend. I read on a lot of posts too that people can have bad results with estelle with their skin but have really good results with Dianne and the other brands. If you don't see any improvements after three months then I would probably switch or at least check up with your doctor, I'm kinda annoyed I stayed on it for so long and I need to go back on roaccutane to fix it up again, but hopefully it works for you! x
I had a very weird experience on Estelle. When I first went on it, it cleared my skin almost immediately and had absolutely no problems or initial breakout. Eventually came off it for about 5 months and again no skin issues what so ever coming off, maybe one pimple would pop up at that time of the month. I've recently gone back on it for other reasons and bam my skin is breaking out like crazy! It's been about two weeks and I'm worried my skin is going to spiral downward into something that can't be fixed ahhh
