@mideonnviscera please @lozoroo
@erenzorlu see our previous posts. Hope it helps.
@lozoroo, how's your lips now? Fully healed after ditching lip balm? I started to do the same last 4 days. Lip surface becomes whitish whenever water touches it during brushing or bathing. How you manage these?
Hi All,
I am also suffering from this so wanted to comment. I was on Accutane for 6 weeks. 4 weeks at 10 mg, 2 weeks at 20mg. I think what triggered mine was that i chewed my lip and then the whole thing just fell off. It was wild. It went raw and swollen. I then contracted a staph infection on them which was the cherry on top of the pie.
Anyway, i went to an oral dermatologist and she gave same advice that has been posted here - stop the lip balms and leave them alone. She said if you are desperate to moisturise then use Protopic, and you can wipe then gently clean when wet (to remove the white build up). But dont force the peel. I have been doing this for 2 ish weeks and have noticed improvement already. I caved and used normal moisturiser for a few days but i noticed my lips actually felt more imflammed and irritated from that so I stopped again. Since then i can see the affected areas are reducing slowy.
Hope this is helpful to convince anyone going through this to leave them alone and reduce the lip balm. Short term pain for long term gain.
@mideonnviscera hello! Just wanted to see how long it took you to recover using this method? Also, did the redness around the edges go down overtime ? Im using the same method right now and want to know how long I have to suffer haha
@lozoroo hey! Just wondering if you completely stopped lip balms or just cut back? Also, how long did it take you to see change / improvement with this? Im doing this right now and wondering how long I am going to suffer for haha
Hey, just wondering if any more updates are going to come about the not-using-anything method, as I have experienced the outside redness the most annoying part of this problem. Please update. Also, as a guy myself, using lip balm or anything of the sort in public feels wierdly... humiliating. It's like it feels gay (I support the LGBTQ, but I am just straight myself). It just doesn't feel good, getting wierd looks from all my male friends and them saying "your lips are really dry and gross and stuff". I would appreciate the help, and also a response for my poor guy Dee Cee.
Update.
I found out about this thing called "exfoliative cheilitis". I think this may be caused by accutane treatment. If you look at the images, although some look completely horrible, the mild dry peeling lips on and around the lips is something I think we have all experienced. I'm not sure if this will be helpful or if anyone will even see this in the first place, but if you still have chapped lips after accutane like me, make sure to research "exfoliative cheilitis".
