So I started getting acne around 2014 in December. At first it wasn't much but as time went on it started getting bigger, inflamed, and painful. I tried different remedies that I saw online which didn't help and made the situation worse. After that I finally decided to get doctor's help and he put me on tactuo and minocycline for three months. I took that and my acne got a lot better but still not completely gone. After the three months, my acne started coming back again and I then tried clindoxyl gel which helped a bit in terms of lessening the pimples but nothing in regards to removing them. I tried various other remedices such as apple cider vinegar, honey, etc. but the inflamed pimples just wouldn't go away! It also started to get painful, and most of my acne is on the left side and right side of my face. Finally I decided to go back to the doctor and he said I needed something stronger so he gave me a prescription of Accutane 40 mg once a day for a month. I just started taking the pill yesterday and also trying to drink a lot of water. Now I am not going to say I didn't research about Accutane or what it was and the risks involved, but after taking the pill and seeing different reviews both good and bad online I am feeling really scared!! Although I don't have severe, but more moderate acne and hoping I only have to take this at most 3 months, I can't help but think of what could happen. I feel researching on the forums here also scared me alot. Basically what I am asking here is should I be really really scared? So far I haven't experienced anything negative, but again it is only the second day and that's too soon to experience much side effects. I am also trying to think positively because I believe that the mind is stronger than your body and if you can control your mind and believe that you will get through this process by being strong, you won't experience as much of the negative side effects. But yeah basically I am just very scared and could use some advice thanks!
You will more than likely experience side effects. Almost everyone does get dry skin and dry lips. As far as the horror stories, you've heard them, and seen them on forums. I like to put it this way, I spoke with my dermatologist yesterday and he sees 10 patients a day 5 days a week who he prescribed accutane. He has been doing that for 25 years. He has never come across the really bad side effects.
Every drug has possible horrible side effects. Don't dwell on the possibility of having something horrible happen, because it is extremely rare for it to happen. This may upset some people, but, most of the people on here complaining are just being over dramatic.
Go read some accutane logs, mine included. It's a great way to follow the beautiful gift that accutane gives almost everyone that takes it.
Lastly, 99% of the people on here that take accutane and have good results will not ever come back on this forum. It's only the people who's acne has come back, so you get a lot of negative posts.

Thankyou! You made me feel a lot better. I was also talking with my sister who is a doctor and she said the really bad side effects are rare and most likely to affect those who are older or very young and I am only 22 so I am likely not going to experience those! I am going to continue with the accutane and hope I can get rid of this acne 🙂

I find it weird though that my doctor didn't make me do blood work before prescribing me accutane, instead he said that he will get my blood tests done after the month of accutane and go on from there in regards of what to do. Hopefully that's okay
