Retin-A made me suffer

Hey guys,

So I was on Retin-A over a couple months now, and I noticed that I followed the wrong instructions. I was prescribed Retin-A 0.025 to be applied every night and to begin by using it every other night. My dermatologist stressed this enough when I went to my visit. However, being the stubborn kid that I am, I applied it every night and applied it more than a pea-sized amount. With that being said, I am now stuck with an irritated red-face that looks extremely bad. To add on, I never went back to my dermatologist because the visit was too expensive and so was the prescriptions. I was in a financial situation at the time. Therefore, when I finished the Retin-A, I bought more of Ebay and continued Retin-A. However, I noticed that my face was extremely horrible and looked way too irritated that I stopped Retin-A about a week ago. Now, I'm trying to heal my face by using an organic cleansers with vitamin C, night creams with aloe, jojoba oil, and other good oils, moisturizer with aloe and spf, a dead sea mud mask I heard it reduces redness and pimples),and an alcohol free toner w/ witch hazel, aloe, and rose hips.

With that being said, I want to return to Retin-A but I need some tips to actually make this product work. I heard wonders about Retin-A, but obviously I applied it wrongfully. So, while I'm healing my face, should I only be using the products that I listed before, or should I also use products such as mud masks, masks, gentle exfoliates, and other products as well? I really want to heal my face, I don't want to be stuck with this ugly red face: I'm really insecure about it. Also, what percentage of Retin-A should I start so I can tell my doctor. Also, how should I start this regimen? Twice a week? Once a week then work my way up?

Thanks guys! Really appreciate it!,

First before doing anything find another dermatologist. Its not suggested to self treat, especially with prescriptions you bought over the internet. Your dermatologist can help you through and give you better advice then the rest of us.

It sounds like you just used to much and aggravated your skin. I would hold off for awhile and let your face normalize before trying anything else. Its hard to tell what effect the medicine is having if you are already so irritated. Also don't trust prescriptions bought on Ebay, they may not be the same as what you have and can have different effects.

Also take it easy on the products. Using to many things at once does not help and makes it hard to know what is working. Be nice to your skin, don't over exfoliate or use masks right now. Also while you are on retin A you don;t want to be using any other exfoliates and stuff aswell, its too irritating

Follow your doctors instructions exactly. If he/she says use it every other night, then do so. Use a pea-sized amount for the entire face. The first couple weeks will likely be miserable. Red skin, dryness, new breakouts etc...but stick with it. The problem with retinoids is that they take a long time of continuous use to make a difference.

Good luck.
