A little about myself: I just turned 18, I am 4'11", and weigh roughly 87lbs. I have had moderately severe acne for 6+ years, been going to monthly visits to the dermatologist for 5 years, and my acne just gets worse as I grow older. Like many others, I have tried countless topical and oral medications for acne.. even herbal medications (because my grandma believes in them). I was fortunate to have had pretty good support growing up but this is something I want to do for myself and my mom (after having spent so much $$$ on the derm visits + meds). I have combination and sensitive skin, a little more towards the drier side (I used to have very oily skin) also on and off eczema since I was a baby. Lately, I've noticed that when I brush my (clean) fingers on my face, I would feel acne (different sizes) all over my face and on places without acne, it would have dry, flakey patches.
-I am also at my first semester of college as a freshman, so I'm wondering will Accutane affect my ability to study?By the time I start, it will be close to when I will need to begin studying for finals. I want to maintain a well-off GPA and exam scores as I do not want to risk losing my financial aid and scholarships (I'm already paying so much with them).
Other questions I have are: -Would dosage amount determine how badly my IB will be? -Is it possible to develop an allergic reaction to Accutane? (I went in for an allergy test once and received back 4 pages of things I was allergic to) -What's a good long-wearing/opaque/moisturizing lipstick to wear? I have pale lips and have many dark hyperpigmented spots all over them so this is VERY necessary. -Any makeup tips/recommendations? -Is it safe to work out? -Can I use any vitamins/supplements in conjunction with Accutane in order to retain moisture? -I usually use desonide lotion to help with my eczema, would it help in this case? -Will my skin be too sensitive to use things like face masks, foundation, etc.? -What may be some long term affects? (I know people say Accutane leaves your body within a month after your last dosage but I still believe that side effects will linger much longer afterwards).
Sorry if these questions may seem very annoying or tedious to answer but I'm just very concerned and I still choose to go on with Accutane because it's really my last resort. Thank you so much in advance!

Hi, cant really help with with your foundation/make up tips(I'm a guy) but will do my best to answer some of your other questions....I'm no expert but can just give my opinion from experience of using accutane.....
The most common side effects with accutane are dry lips/dry skin so its important to get a goodlip balm/moisturizer ....this really will help. I've just finished my 1st month on 20mg a day(low dose as I wanted to keep any side effects as mild as possible) and used a good lip balm from day one and its really helped my dry lips....infact they are hardly chapped at all....Also, it might seem a small thing, but drink lots of water.....accutane drys out your pores, skin, lips.....and its important you dont get dehydrated.....
Studies? Yes, one of the side effects can sometimes be "feeling tried" or "lack of concentration" but this doesnt effect everyone so is "possible" but"unlikely" to case issues with your studies....
IB? Again, this is a possible side effect but many people dont get it.....I think sometimes people stop doing theirnormal, daily routine when starting accutane treatment and sometimes stopping the routine your skin is use to can make this more likely. Might be a good idea to find the routine that works for you and keep using it for the first 2-4 weeks of accutane treatment to give the accutane chance to start working.....Starting off on a low dosage can also help and is something most Derms will do anyway, to see how your body reacts to treatment before upping the dose.
Sensitive skin? Your skin will become very sensitive...I notice a smallcut or scratch on my skin can feel sore and take a while a heal....
I took accutane for the first time 7 years ago after using many antibiotics(think the antibiotics actually made my skin worse as my body built up a resistance)and accutanereally was the best treatment I used. I've just decided to doanothertreatment (low dose)as my very oily skin (overactive glands) returned. I've used creams/gels/antibiotics on and off for nearly 20yearsand felt it was time to break the cycle of using so many products on my skin....In my case,I using accutaneto control the oil(shrink my pores) as my acne hasbeen mostly very mild since finishing that first treatment 7 years ago....
Important to remember, everyone is different, every treatment is different and everyones acne is different......You need to do your research and find out as much info as you can about this treatment but try not to get stressed or worried by the negative stuff you read about side effects. The stress/worry can also make it worse.....Most peopleseeaderm once a month while on this treatment so important to discuss things with him/her if you have any concerns......I think alot ofpeople see great improvements after treatment and have a verypositive story to tell.....
Best wishes with treatment....
