I am a 15 years old male who started accutane in July of 2015. Before going on accutane my skin was oily and I had a lot of red marks that weren't fading since my acne wouldn't go away. I never had severe acne, I had mild to moderate acne that wouldn't let my red marks heal, so it looks like I have severe acne when I only have a few pimples. Now the activity on my face has slown down and my derm told me that the goal was to stop the production of new pimples so the marks can fade. I know there is a difference in between acne scars and hyperpigmentation, but I just feel like the marks will never fade. Can acne scars be smooth? How long until the marks start to fade and will the fade while I'm on accutane as long as more pimples don't come up? I need help because my self confidence is at an all time low 
It sounds like you have post acne red marks which is just smooth red marks left over from spots. These marks usually take around 6 months to heal but if they are darken from sunlight it may take longer. I have these red marks all over my cheeks and they have faded around 25% in two months. But you're young so your healing ability might be faster. My derm told me that the redness should slowly die down on accutane but once I was off it that the redness should die down a lot faster. Use an good exfoliator often and use a vitamin C serum. And if this helps I have bright red marks all over my skin and I have just started university and have not much confidence.
