Don't Know Where To Turn

Im a 22 year old male. Have just been "struggling" with acne for about 4 years now. Have been on 2 round of accutane and 3 rounds of solodyn. Accutane side effects didn't really bother me, just the dry lips really. After each accutane round I had clear skin for about 5 months each time. But after that 5-6 months it came back with a bang. Winter/spring 2014 I felt I really struggled with it so in May of 2014 my dermatologist decided to put me on solodyn for the third time, this time at a higher dosage. I was on solodyn for a little over a year. I was also on epiduo in that year. In that year I have to admit my skin was almost flawless. Maybe like on zit every other week, but nothing I couldn't handle. This past summer my acne began to creep back. I made the decision to stop taking solodyn and the epiduo. For almost all of July this summer my skin was just "good" and I can live with good. But I just went back to school about a month ago and since moving in my skin has been a "constant" struggle. Flare ups all over my mouth and chin. Also cyst type deep acne on my cheeks. Just flare ups popping up each new days. I thought back in the day my diet was just bad but now I believe that can't be it. I eat good no coke anymore. Eat mainly homemade salads and subs. Exercise regularly. I'd say at this point I just don't know where to turn, frustration is a great word to describe it. I'm a senior in college and should be thinking about my life after college but instead I'm thinking about getting rid of my face issue. The accutane/solodyn/epiduo I've been through it all many times. I have a dermatologist appt this come Wednesday 9/16 and I don't really know how it'll go. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I'm still working on my acne myself but from personal experience, be careful with antibiotics. On a long term basis they can do a lot of harm to your body. I took them for years in high school. If you don't know about it, you should look into it... Also many people will tell you that diet and exercise is very important, but don't stress yourself looking too far into it. Eating and living healthy are obviously important and should definitely be done for overall health, but it won't make or break your acne! Have the pizza if you want it!

Another thing I've found is that dermatologists sometimes do more harm than help! They can be really good resources but you should definitely be wary of what they advise.

I know I haven't suggested anything positive here and my post sounds pretty pessimistic, and doesn't have an answer because I don't have one myself. I can't tell you how to fix it but I want to at least warn you of the things I've learned the hard way! I'm thinking about trying the acne.org regimen, maybe you should consider it?

If the solodyn- Epiduo combo worked before, go back on it. There is no permanent acne "Cure", just acne management.

It's like taking insulin for diabetes, if your diabetes is controlled on insulin, of course it's not going to be controlled if you stop taking the insulin.

Acne control medications are exactly the same concept. Go back on the regimen that worked, and take a good pro-biotic, and you should be on your way to clear again!

Good luck!
