Hello world,
I'm posting because I'm hoping someone can tell me how to solve my problem:
I started accutane 7 months ago with 20 mg, 40 mg, 40 mg, 50 mg, 50 mg, 60 mg, 60 mg, and now Im on 60 mg.
The medication cured my cysts. My blood tests all show normal results except for high cholesterol.
The problem is that my face broke out with comodones all over snd they are still there, sometimes they go away but new ones keep coming out each month.
My skin looks worse than when we started. I had mild acne but stubborn cysts that wouldnt be treated with creams or antibiotics. When we started my cysts were hidden and would only be inflamed periodically, now I constantly have white bumps all over my face.
My doctor says to keep taking the meds and eventually my skin will clear up completely.
I saw two more dermatologists this month to get a second opinion since I am totally fed up with this situation.
The first doctor told me to keep on the meds, the second told me to stop after this dose and to start applying Differin cream for 3 months.
Does anyone out there know what to do in this situation? Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Sarah
Hiya. I had a similar experience. Accutane cured my cystic acne but gave me comedonal acne. My derm also recommended Differin and I have been using it for nearly 9 weeks and I am not at the point were I can say I am *cured* but for me, personally, it's working really well. I had in excess of 40 comedones on my cheek before I started Differin and right now I have none. I am still experiencing small breakouts, I mean like maximum of 2 clogged pores at a time. But as I go further into the treatment the breakouts are lessening. For example, in the last 3 weeks I have had 4 comedones that all went away in at most 2 days. I'm unsure if you are still on Accutane? But my derm said it's not guareented to work on comedonal acne and topicals definitely work better for this kind of acne. So yeah, that's my personal experience, hope you find something that works for you!
I am in the EXACT same boat. Just starting month 7 this week. I am looking for some feedback too and don't have much to offer except that I am so, so sorry. Feels like an utter disappointment to be this far into treatment with no end in sight. My doctor said to keep taking it until all clear. He said another patient just went 12 months... but is finally clear. I'm going to keep going for a few more months, but right now I feel pretty defeated. Best of luck to you.
Hi
Completed 6 mnths on tane in May
Im not sure staying on tane is the answer as it made my skin so sensitive and dehydrated (have tons clogged pores due to dehydration etc)
My problem now is I am soooo sensitive I cant tolerate retin-a
tried atralin and it made my skin red etc...it did however did smooth it out a bit but then I got small pinhead sots (maybe irritation)
plan to see a new derm in a few weeks to see what I can do
I need something to exfoliate my skin and smooth it..but due to tane my skin cant handle much

Hey ihateusernamesx, thanks so much letting me know.
I feel a littl better now!
I have tiny technical question to ask you; how do the comodones go away? are they disappearing under the skin or coming out? :S

Dont feel defeated You'll get through it, think beautiful skin thoughts
Just be careful to get regular blood tests to make sure your body is handling the high dosage ok. x

Hey Kim,
I'd go back to basic and maybe not try anything experimental for a while.
Cleanse, moisturize and subtle exfoliation at home for a while.
Maybe it will go back to normal on its on
Good luck and dont worry. x
I find that every derm just wants to put chemicals on your face and thats how they think it resolves everything.
Ive tried so much shit and none of it has helped my comedonal acne.
Recently ive let my skin heal on its own and stopped ALL chemicals and i only use water now. Its helped heaps, hasnt done shit for the clogged pores but its made my skin less sensitive.
Hope you find something that works out!
Thank you Chloe x
Awesome, fingers crossed
Hey again!
Id say about half came out and the rest fell off idk where they went but they went away which I am NOT complaining about haha! The ones that came out never got massive or cystic either. They just got a little bigger and way redder and then disappeared!
Chloe you're hilarious!
And I'm sorry you had to go through all that to find a simple solution at the end, but now you're all set!
I'm very happy for you
I will try your suggestion for sure!
I thought I might share this, but 3 days ago I went to my GP and he said I might have a fungul infection! Turns out it looks EXACTLY like clogged pores. He gave me anti dandruff treatment for my face and my clogged pores are gone!! You can try and see if this works for you! I can't believe I spent all that money on the dumbass derm
