Hey everyone,
I'm extremely depressed and discouraged right now...
I have been struggling with acne all my life but with in the past 3 years in has really been bad. About 3 years ago i started using Tretinoin 0.1%, I don't rememer exactly how long it took for me to see results but in the long run i definintely did. I would still get pimples but nothing like it was previously. Well after using it for about 2 years I asked my doctor to lower my dosage to the 0.025% because my skin was still really irritated from the cream (red, burning, peeling) which was really caused because I wasn't using the cream properly. After being on the lower dosage for about 3 months I became very upset because my bad break out had come back. I then again asked my doctor to higher the prescription back up to the 0.1% cream. I started using that dosage July 1, it's now August 25. And I have also been using a benzoyl peroxide wash in the mornings when I do not use Tretinoin. I know that retinoids will make you purge pretty terrible in the beginning but I've never stopped using it completely so I'm not understanding why my breakout is so bad and way it does'nt seem to be getting better. Am i crazy and paranoid or is this not working for me anymore!?!?
You should talk to your dermatologist about changing your prescription. I had the same thing happen to me with my birth control. I understand that they are two totally separate things, but my point is your body can get used to a prescription. I've been on birth control since I was 15, now I'm 22 and have been breaking out again for over a year. My doctor prescribed me a new birth control about a month ago and the change seems to be working. There is hope! btw, if you haven't tried birth control you really should consider it. Acne is usually related to hormones.
Funny things is! I am on birth control. I'm currently taking Orsythia which my gynecologist told me and research online said that's one of the pills that's the worst for acne. So she prescribed me Sprintec (generic Ortho Cyclen) so I'm really hoping that helps! What pill are you taking?

I'm on Beyaz right now. I actually WAS on Sprintec, and Ortho-Tri Cyclen Lo. I was switched to Sprintec because I started spotting on the super low dose. Sprintec is the birth control that stopped working for me, but it took about 5 years for that to happen. I did a review on it if you want to look at it. I may have put it under Ortho-Tri Cyclen Lo, but I consider them to be the same thing and there were very few reviews on the Sprintec itself. My skin had never been clearer than when I was on any of the Ortho, or generics of Ortho products.
