Acne Caused By Birth Control

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this site! Let me tell you a little about myself: I'm 22 years and I will be starting grad school in less then a week! I've been on birth control since I was 18. I was on Loestrin 24 Fe for about two years, I never had any issues with it. Then they discontinued that and my insurance company sent me the replacement, Minastrin 24 fe and I was on that for about a year and a half. During that year and a half, I gained weight, had awful mood swings and my face broke out all around my chin and mouth area. It was extremely embarrassing considering I was a junior/senior college. For some reason, I didn't connect it to the birth control because it claimed to be the same as Loestrin. I found out from a pharmacists right before I switched that the filler that made the pill chewable had caused issues in some women.

Anyway, I did my research and found Lomedia 24 fe! I was relieved because it was the same as Loestrin. My face basically cleared up, my mood swings stopped and my body went back to somewhat normal. The only issue was that even though my face is clear, I always get one pimple that pops up. I eventually get the pimple to go away, then it shows up in a different spot.

It's actually frustrating because I've been dealing with acne for almost two years now and I want to be done with it. My doctor told me it can take my body up to a year to finally be normal again because Minastrin messed my hormones up so bad. I was wondering if these pimples are caused by the Lomedia? Or my hormones are still not balanced?

I've been on Lomedia for about 8-9 months now!

Please, any response will help.

Thanks!

The fact that you can attribute/narrow your skin problems to hormones if definitely helpful!

This person posted a helpful guide to BCP and notes that the type of progestin in the pill can have effect on the pill's outcome on your skin.

In my opinion 8-9 months you should have definitely seen improvement in your skin if it were to be improved by the Lomedia. I was on birth control for my skin for 6 months and I spent countless late nights scouring the internet. From my research, whatever your skin is like at this point, its unlikely to change the longer you stay on Lomedia.

If I can give any advice , I would say go and get a blood test to check out your hormones and get your doctor to see if their are any anomalies that could be causing the skin problems.

Sorry if my reply isn't what you were asking! I only skimmed. :)
