Roaccutane - Exhaustion - Any Advice?

Hello,

This is my first post, but I have been reading a few forums for a while now.

I have suffered from pretty bad acne since I was around 12 years old, I am now 27, and like most people have tried everything. I get major breakouts which are very painful, and just the normal all the time spots. I do also now have quite a lot of scarring and discolouration. Some antibiotics worked a bit, but never completely. So I made the decision to start Roaccutane, even after all the horror stories I thought I really should try it before giving up and accepting the fact that there's very little I can do about it.

I have just started my 4th month on Roaccutane, started on 30mg per day and this was increased to 50mg per day last month.

Its working! I cant remember the last time I could actually count how many spots I have (one) I had a break out a couple of weeks ago, but that cleared up pretty quickly. Also, I love that I don't have to wash my hair 1 to 2 times per day! I even went to the shop the other day without a full face of makeup on, which to anyone who knows me, is absolutely un-heard of.

I have had all the normal side effects, dry EVERYTHING, which as expected got worse with the increased dose, but it seems to be calming down now, either that or I'm just used to it now!

However, something that I didn't really bet on is being so unbelievably exhausted, all of the time. I wake up and feel like I haven't slept, whether I've been asleep for 4hrs or 12hrs. I generally just feel drained all of the time, everything is an effort. I have had a couple of days when I've been quite upset, for no reason at all. But I haven't thought much of it because I really just feel like I'm overtired and in a girly huff about it...

I eat healthily (8 times out of 10!)

I am active, I have a horse so its not as if I'm doing fitness classes every night, but it certainly keeps me fit.

I get enough sleep every night.

I keep hydrated.

I cant remember the last time I felt awake and motivated...

Has/is anyone experiencing the same thing? Any advice? Or just, as I am now, keep going, it'll be over soon...?

Sorry for a bit of a life story... Thanks for reading.

I've been on Accutane for almost a month and I haven't noticed that. I watched a YouTube Accutane video log where the woman says she began experiencing fatigue when she switched from taking her pill in the morning to taking it in the evening. When do you take yours?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!

Ah really?! I take mine in the evening as I was told to take them with the biggest meal of the day... Maybe I will try taking them in the morning for a week or so and see if that makes a difference.

Thank you :-)

Thats not a bad idea. Try taking in the morning and see if you feel better. I take 40mgs in the morning and 40 at night. So far I have not noticed fatigue. I work graveyard though and am always tired so its hard to tell. Goodluck!

I'm on my 6th month and I have noticed this as well. I really wouldn't worry too much, it sounds as if the course is going really well for you and you're managing! Just stick in there :)

I take mine in the morning with bacon and eggs! Probably not the healthiest, but I workout a lot and eat healthy the rest of the day. I'm vegetarian, but bacon and eggs is the easiest way to get the 20g of fat. Breakfast is definitely my biggest meal of the day.

I started getting extremely fatigued around the 5th month also. Try lowering the dosage. I went from 80mg a day to 60mg and it made a world of difference. No side effects and my energy levels went back to normal.
