Hi

Due to go on a second round of accutane soon in the UK.

Just wanted to gather some insight into when you take your pills and why you take them at that time.

I took my first course every evening after my dinner meal usually a few hours before going to sleep. From what I remember, can't really think of any negatives with this routine.

I used to have a stable work pattern during my first course however I now work shifts so every day is different with regards to timing and the amount of sleep I get.

Is there anybody who has done a second round and changed their routine compared to your first? If so what made you change it?

Thanks in advance

It's important to take Accutane with a fatty meal (at least 20mg). I'm a vegetarian, but absorbing as much of the drug as possible is very important to me. I counted up the fat in a lot of the meals I eat and realized that getting the necessary fat content just wasn't realistic for me to follow through with every day on a vegetarian diet.

I decided that the way I would get my fat would be by adding bacon and eggs most mornings. Two slices of bacon is 20g. A fried egg is 11g, so that puts me over the top. I chose breakfast because nutritionists always recommend your largest meal at breakfast. That's when you need calories the most anyway.

If I'm around the house and have time I'll eat an avocado (15g) and some nuts, but usually this is so filling that I can't finish and I worry that I'm not getting the full effect of the Accutane.

I've been prescribed 60mg per day for my skin condition and was told to take it daily.

Is it standard procedure for the entire dose to be taken at once or do people try to spread the dose out across the day or keep to the simple "with dinner/breakfast" routine?

40mgs twice a day roughly 12 hours apart with a high fat meal. I try to hit 50 grams of fat with my meal.

Hi there. I just started my fourth round of accutane. Sigh. I feel like I am giving myself false hope. Accutane is the only thing that has ever made a difference in my skin. We are talking complete strangers coming up to me complementing on my skin and asking what I used. I have had super oily skin since age 13, but after a month being off of each course my oil always came back just as bad. It helped keep my cystic acne away on my face, but I still have black heads and white heads and very splotchy skin every where, and the cystic acne has come back on my back. My current derm told me to take it at night, but didn't say why. I do know for me accutane definitely makes me drowsy and sluggish so it makes perfect sense for me. I can say I didn't eat super fatty meals with my first three courses. I was always worried about gaining weight as I try to eat healthy and workout to stay trim. But this time I am making sure I eat healthy fatty meals likes almond butter, or better and butter which is a healthy peanut butter, still fatty , but not as fatty as regular peanut butter or avoacodo sandwiches. I am hoping maybe me eating fattier meals this time around it will maybe have staying power when I finish my course. I don't see a derm ever allowing me to go on a 5th round. The only thing I don't get if you have to have a fatty meal with it, why did accutane clear me up while I was taking it the first three times.

You will be fine if you take it with some healthy fat. Almond butter, Avocado, a salad with olive oil. You want somewhere between 20g-50g of fat when you take it. If you taking it once a day I would not worry about weight gain Just make your last meal higher fat then the others. Healthy fats are REALLY good for your body, you want to make sure you are getting them regardless of being on accutane or not.

They usually tell people to take it at night because it is the easyiest to stay on schedule. Most people sleep around the same time, and even if you stay up late you can just take your pill and sleep later. In the morning people may sleep in or forget. Also most people eat before bed since they are not in a rush like in the mornings.
