Hello guys how are you? So I've finally decided to go on Accutane, I am starting tomorrow, 20 mgs the first month. My question is, do I have to start moisturizing and doing all that now? Also what are the side effects that I might notice? My doctor didn't say much about this, he said he might put me on 40 mgs next month, but not higher since my acne is not very severe.
I would definitely start moisturising it won't do any harm! Over the course there are some side effects, which can be different for people. I, personally, experienced dry skin, chapped lips and lethargy. I had a few more including nosebleeds and joint pain but I only started getting them ones after my dose was bumped up higher than your doctor is going to put you on. Good luck
Begin moisterizing right away. Try to stay ahead of it so when your skin dries out it doesn't become completely dry. Expect dry skin, chapped lips, and possibly eyes. Make sure to discuss possible side effects next time you are with your dermatologist, that is something they should be going over with you,
yes everyone seems to vary on the side effects. I had super chapped lips, but not super chapped until the end of my course, but started getting chapped after just a few weeks starting accutane. I used aquaphor on my lips. I also started to get dry skin on my face toward the end of my course, but got super dry skin in random places like my hands. I had what I called alligator hands about a month in, but my face is severely oily so didn't see the effects of dry face until the end. I used the aquaphor on my hands, lips and corners of my nose. I definitely was tired a lot and had sore joints/muscles. I actually didn't mind the tiredness, since I am always someone who has a hard time falling asleep. I actually am just a oily gal so for me not having to wash my hair every single day since I straighten it was great. I felt like I had "normal" hair. My hair/scalp is noticeably oily by the end of the day and I wash it every day. If I don't omg super oily and looks almost wet. My hair felt more damage to me because it was so dry, so I use a good conditioner only on the ends of my hair, but again I much rather have dry hair and strands then hair that looks wet from oil. Good luck.
I'm on day 13 now. My lips became noticably dry around day 7. Have your aquaphor ready! The tube version doesn't actually say aquaphor on it, but that's it. The tub says aquaphor and you could get that instead if you want. Also get some lip balm with spf to keep on you.
I started moisturizing right away, but the moisturizer wasn't the greatest so I had to switch to the acne.org stuff + jojoba when I face got dry.
