Hi I would like to ask a question? I am 28 y/o. I pick on my skin a lot and all the time creating welts and bad irritation, I only do it around my neck and chin, jawline area. I recently went to the dermatologist to consult her over my dramatic hair loss over the past year and she suggested I take aldactone, she sent me for blood test and performed a scalp biopsy on me. She said I must return upon receiving the results to determine how I should be treated for my issues. I have been reading a lot about aldactone and I am not sure it is the right thing for me. Although I have mentioned I have acne around my chin, jawline and neck this is exacerbated and made worse by my constant picking habit. (I pretty much create welts out of nothing) my hairloss might be the result of dramatic weight loss over the past year (about 14 kilos) I have just been reading about spirolactone and its side effects and would not like to experience them unnecessarily. Is there any blood test that can determine accurately whether this drug is the absolutely necessary course of treatment? Are there any alternatives to it. I just want to make sure that it is absolutely what I need before I start it as the last thing I want at my age is to have irregular periods and all the other side effects. Please help!!!
I was prescribed spiro by my derm 5 years ago. It's technically an "off label" acne drug because it was originally designed for patients with high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It works for acne too because, as a diuretic, it reduces the amount of oil your skin produces. I had concerns before starting this medication as well and asked my doctor lots of questions. She informed me that this drug has been around a long time and that it is one of the safest medications for acne. It doesn't have the nasty side-effects like accutane or other meds specifically for acne. It will make you need to pee a little more frequently, but it's a small cost for a clearer complexion. I haven't experienced any other side effects.
Take away: This product works. It helped completely clear my skin. Unlike the countless OTC meds I tried, this actually stops acne at the source. Most other treatments are only remedies after a pimple has already turned up. However, it's important to remember that what works one acne sufferer may not work for another. Before taking advice about a treatment, you should know what kind of skin the reviewer has. If it's similar to yours and the product worked for them, odds are it ill work for you too. I have sensitive, oily skin. If that sounds like you, I think you should give it a try.
Good luck!

Don't know if anyone has checked this lately but honestly, I tried everything for my acne until I tried spirinolactone(aldactone) my chin, cheeks, jawline and part of my neck were breaking out ... I hated my skin. I tried spiro and started at 25. then progressed to 100mg. A day.. My acne literally disappeared. My periods yes were irregular, and I did not gain any weight. I actually lost 10 pounds.. I went off of it for a year cause my skin was fine. I also already have low blood pressure and this medicine does lower it so I was feeling cold and sleepy at times. My skin was terrible the whole year I was off of it. I literally would not leave my house because I didn't want anyone seeing my face ... Went back on the Med only at 50 a day and I'm back to blemish free and have regular periods and only get tiny ones during my cycle. This has been the only medicine that's ever helped me and I've taken doxycycline, all the antibiotics, even regimens. Anyway, Come to find out I had cystic ovaries and my hormones were whack. So I'm happy i found this medicine because it helps my cramps and my skin 98 percent. Of the time 🙂
